Publisher's summary

As a harpy, Sentinel Aryal is accustomed to dealing with hate, but Sentinel Quentin Caeravorn manages to inspire in her a burning ire unlike anything she's ever known. Aryal believes the new Sentinel to be a criminal, and vows to take him out as soon as the opportunity arises. But the harpy's incessant wrath has pushed Quentin to the limit, and forces him to make a deadly vow of his own. To put an end to the conflict, Dragos, Lord of the Wyr, sends them on a reconnaissance mission to the Elven land of Numenlaur. Forced to work together, Aryal and Quentin's mutual antagonism escalates. Each fight draws forth more passion-culminating in an explosively sexual confrontation. But when their quest reveals real danger, Aryal and Quentin must resolve their differences in ways beyond the physical, before the entire Wyr is threatened.

One of the best in a great series!

I am so glad we finally get to know Aryal the harpy in this one! The adventure is fun and twisting, and I love the romance here, she builds it up well and makes it believable and exciting at the same time. I also like how this book continues character development with other favorites, particularly Dragos and some of the other sentinels.

good world building

This was good. The world she's put together is always fun but it's the characters that inhabit it that make all come together. This was no different. Good story, good plot everything is there.

Thought the narrator did a good job.

Only work and sleep got me to stop listening!

Enjoyed every moment...both the tense and the tender. I was caught laughing out loud and wiping tears away from my eyes.

I Love this series

I listen to these books. There's a nice amount of tension that grows but the stories are well done as well. Much effort and thought is in each book.

Occasionally cringe inducing, but excellent!

I think it's a sign of great writing when an author can make you cringe, especially over things that don't pertain to you. Harrison achieved just that in this book. The biggest things were the descriptions of the damage to Aryal's wings. With each thing that happened, I cringed. I found some of the events in the book quite horrifying (from the wings to the shadow wolves' situation to the cause and aftermath of the battle that decimated the elves).

All of that being said, this was an excellent book. While there were some cringe inducing moments, the book also contained plenty of humor. The story was interesting and engaging. Over the course of the series, Aryal's character has stayed true. I enjoyed watching her progress over the course of the story, both in her relationship with Quentin and as a person. She is still prickly and contrary come the end of the book, but she seems to have opened her heart to and gained respect for some of the other characters she's had problems with. I loved the insight into her character in this book. We can finally see how and why the other sentinels truly love her. While Quentin hasn't been mentioned much, he seemed to be perfect for making Aryal absolutely crazy (and vice versa). Overall, this was an enjoyable addition to the Elder Races series. Aryal and Quentin's story is HEA with no cliffhanger. Having read previous books in the series is not crucial to understanding this book, but does provide backstory to some of the things mentioned.

Once again, Sophie Eastlake performed well. She has an enjoyable voice with pretty good range.

Loved this book and love story. Two peoples love is never the same. We each love differently.

Keep 'em coming.

I'm not into the bdsm stuff that is all the craze now, but I have to say it works if it is from both sides and in small amounts. Only one part towards the end that I felt could have been left out and I would have like the book better. Of course I love this series. This is not my favorite book in it, but it is still awesome. The book defiantly starts out with a hate/hate relationship. Thea Harrison has great character development and over time Aryal and Quentin come together perfectly. The Dragon Bound series is an immediate download for me. I have enjoyed the narrator, which is the same one as the rest of the series. Read in order for max enjoyment.

Careful now....

I really love this series. The setup for this series is the modern world with the addition of the "Elder Races", also known as "the stuff paranormal / urban fantasy addicts like best". I think Thea Harrison has created some of the best pairings in this genre such as Pia the unicorn & Dragos the dragon, and Grace the Oracle & Khalil the Djinn. Fabulous! Sexy and witty and a good adventure/mystery with well developed and likable characters.

This book started out good. The two main characters had potential but they went largely undeveloped while the author concentrated on the "kink". All I could think of as I read the story was "Oh no! Not another Anita Blake! Please no!" All the other books in this series had just the right amount of sex thrown in as spice to an already great story. It's not like Ms. Harrison couldn't think of an interesting plot -- this is a great story. It's not that she couldn't think up the characters -- these had appeared in earlier books and had lots of potential. When does fictional sex go from spice to spoiler? I can't say but I know it when I read it. I choose to believe that Thea Harrison won't go over the cliff as have other paranormal romance authors. Please.
