Publisher's summary

As a harpy, Sentinel Aryal is accustomed to dealing with hate, but Sentinel Quentin Caeravorn manages to inspire in her a burning ire unlike anything she's ever known. Aryal believes the new Sentinel to be a criminal, and vows to take him out as soon as the opportunity arises. But the harpy's incessant wrath has pushed Quentin to the limit, and forces him to make a deadly vow of his own. To put an end to the conflict, Dragos, Lord of the Wyr, sends them on a reconnaissance mission to the Elven land of Numenlaur. Forced to work together, Aryal and Quentin's mutual antagonism escalates. Each fight draws forth more passion-culminating in an explosively sexual confrontation. But when their quest reveals real danger, Aryal and Quentin must resolve their differences in ways beyond the physical, before the entire Wyr is threatened.

So Put Out,Will YOU?

Wow, Have you ever owned a book in your library and thought this was not a good buy? Then you listen to it and found out it was terrific? Well this book is one of those! It's been fun, fast-paced, and a little on the erotic side in wishes and intent! I did not particularly care for this lead heroine character in other stories but she is great in this one. Our hero is from the first book with Pia And I have to say once again the author is so imaginative in how she puts together a new book with previously introduced characters.
As in this whole series, narrator Sophie Eastlake aka Julia Whelan, brings this story to funfilled life.

Can You Say Love Hate Love

This is another great book about Dragos and his Wry. The sentinel harpy has always thought that the new sentinel was a criminal. What she discovers after the two of them get to fighting in such a way that forces Dragos' hand and he sends them on a mission together is nothing short of mind blowing. There is so much humor spiced throughout the book that I had several lol moments. Loved the story. Loved the ending even better. Well worth the credit.

Well, it got my attention

What did you love best about Kinked?

I liked the two dominant characters. It was fun to follow the tension.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kinked?

The cabin. Yep, definitely the cabin.

What about Sophie Eastlake’s performance did you like?

I think Ms. Eastlake has done a great job with the entire series. She does a great job bouncing between the masculine and feminine characters. Convincing and I forget that she's there, which is a great compliment.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Elder Races get freaky :)

Any additional comments?

Good piece of escapism. Well written and well edited. This isn't my favorite of the series, but worth the credit.

Setting: Elven land of Numenlaur in the Otherworld, contemporary
Genre: Paranormal romance
Sophie Eastlake is a good narrator for this series. I think she's getting better as she goes along. She's good at carrying voices through the series. Dragos sounds like himself. Even Quentin, who was introduced in the first book of the series, still sounds like he did then. Good job, Sophie!
This was not my favorite book of the series. I didn't like Aryal in any of the previous books, and I didn't find her much of a sympathetic character in this one. I was neutral on Quentin at the beginning and pretty much felt the same way at the end. I do have to admit that the characters gained something over the course of the book. Aryal learned to see the Quentin who lived behind her prejudice and hatred. Quentin learned to accept the feral animal hiding behind his urbane persona and see Aryal as more than just a hateful woman. The plot involved these two enemies being assigned by Dragos to investigate what was happening in Numenlaur. What they see and find is mildly compelling, and the antagonist and her minions are nicely evil. As for it being kinked? Not so much.
This could be an interesting addition to the series, but if you skipped it, it really wouldn't matter.

What a Shock!!

I got sidetracked by the novella's, so it took me a while to get back by this book. I must say Thea Harrison through me for a loop with this one! I always thought Aryal and Grim would be the match, but Aryal and Quentin I would never have believed. When Dragos sends Aryal and Quentin to Numenlaur on a two-fold mission, I didn't think both would return and they almost didn't. The first part of the mission was to settle their personal fight and the second part was to ensure no one was there that shouldn't be.

It was fun to watch how they both thought along the same lines so much of the time and to watch how they slowly began to work together. Then when they were captured by the Russian Witch and the shadow wolves, they really come together with one goal in mind, kill the witch. When Aryal is hurt so bad that she may never fly again and isn't sure she wants to live, it's Quentin who gives her back the strength to go on and encourages her to believe that she will fly again. I loved when Thea had them tease about being the parents to the 3 young elves that the witch had also captured and how they got them to safety.

I think one of the most touching parts is when Aryal tells Quentin of the promise she made a long time ago to her mate. Not knowing that he would use those same words when she is having surgery to repair her wings. Not even Dragos could hold her at one point during the surgery, but with those words Quentin did.

Thea Harrison wrote a great story around two very dominate personalities and gives us a look into Numenlaur that we had to this point not had much of. As for Sophie Eastlake's narration, what can I say but she has done another great job!! Together they make a great pair!

Knocked it out of the park!

While I've enjoyed the entire Elder Race series, this quickly became my favorite. That Harpy is something else and it was a great read to see her character fully developed. The tension in this one builds beautifully and makes the climax oh-so worth it. Great author, great reader, great series.

Handled delicately, superior understanding

I was not to sure of this book but since the author had improved greatly, and the narrator had become a true connection between story and author, I thought I would give it a try. It was fabulous.

We all have a dark side, or may lack control in certain situations but to truly try to keep inner most feelings buried and only acting out to keep from imploding is too human a nature to ignore. We are talking of independent beings of different heritages and backgrounds, various ages and trying to respect the privacy that keeps leaking out in ways that can get you shunned or loved by all. Mix that in a school yard and you have social learning skills going backwards. That is why there are so many watching everyone so carefully just to keep them from leaving, not really being present, and difficult to communicate with.

Some release tension by yelling, some by dominating, some by seeing below the surface and then there are those few who cannot understand themselves so they do not want anyone else to figure out anything because the person of interest isnt able to tell whether it is true or false. Only after an action has been taken can they seen what others saw or suspected before the person did. Very scary position to be in..... for everyone but especially the person who couldn't see it in themselves.

This entire group of super beings is all this and more. The two major characters have qualities that they see in each other and do not like but dont recognize in themselves. Sure it shows differently but the mind set is the same. So, send them on a field trip and see who completes the task, do they both return? Can they work as a team? Do they care and if so about what or whom or why? Now add what becomes a highly dangerous assignment that should have been just about killing, or not, each other.

The situation they are forced to deal with also forces them to see strengths and weaknesses in each other and themselves. How honest do you have to be in a fight? Or when alone? or when together before, during and after the assignment? Can they figure it out? Their lives, not just their positions in the organization, is on the line. They have run out of time, they are forced to face themselves and each other. Is there a winner? Is there a team? Who will live or die by the last paragraph, so to speak.

Now that is what a real author does. Holds your interest in every sentence right up until the last word spoken. If you want to know how this author did? Take a listen. I listened twice. This is a keeper.
