As a harpy, Sentinel Aryal is accustomed to dealing with hate, but Sentinel Quentin Caeravorn manages to inspire in her a burning ire unlike anything she's ever known. Aryal believes the new Sentinel to be a criminal, and vows to take him out as soon as the opportunity arises. But the harpy's incessant wrath has pushed Quentin to the limit, and forces him to make a deadly vow of his own. To put an end to the conflict, Dragos, Lord of the Wyr, sends them on a reconnaissance mission to the Elven land of Numenlaur. Forced to work together, Aryal and Quentin's mutual antagonism escalates. Each fight draws forth more passion-culminating in an explosively sexual confrontation. But when their quest reveals real danger, Aryal and Quentin must resolve their differences in ways beyond the physical, before the entire Wyr is threatened.

Hello, my name is Teresa and I'm an addict.
I'm not into the bdsm stuff that is all the craze now, but I have to say it works if it is from both sides and in small amounts. Only one part towards the end that I felt could have been left out and I would have like the book better. Of course I love this series. This is not my favorite book in it, but it is still awesome. The book defiantly starts out with a hate/hate relationship. Thea Harrison has great character development and over time Aryal and Quentin come together perfectly. The Dragon Bound series is an immediate download for me. I have enjoyed the narrator, which is the same one as the rest of the series. Read in order for max enjoyment.
Say something about yourself!
This is book 6 of the Elder Races series, and I think it's my favorite! Dragonbound, book 1, had a special magic to it and even though the follow up books were great they didn't have that all encompassing magic of book 1, this one does!
This is the story of Quinn, Pia's old boss and owner of Elfies pub, and newly christened sentinel of the Weir people. He's been under investigation for 2 years by Ariel the Harpy sentinel. She knows he's dirty, a law breaker, she just hasn't been able to prove it. The truth is Quinn is on the shady side of the law, it's how he has lived his life and its what he knows. He is also a total male alpha, handsome enough to get any woman he wants, and he dabbles in BDSM, but something is missing from his life he is bored.
Ariel is on a mission to destroy Quinn, anything or anyone that threatens the Weir needs to be eliminated. The fact that Quinn is now one of the seven elite sentinels sworn to protect the Weir way if life is NOT acceptable!
Great story, hot scenes, the heat between these two leaps off the page. I really hope we don't have to wait another year for book 7. If you haven't started this series you are truly missing out!
As a follower of the series I wasn't so sure that I would like Aryal's story... and boy was I taken by surprise. Aryal is so prickly, confrontational and argumentative and though that doesn't change...the perspective of the reader/listener does. That's amazing story telling to me. Thea Harrison is an amazing author and I absolutely love this book/this series and highly recommend it.
I really love this series. The setup for this series is the modern world with the addition of the "Elder Races", also known as "the stuff paranormal / urban fantasy addicts like best". I think Thea Harrison has created some of the best pairings in this genre such as Pia the unicorn & Dragos the dragon, and Grace the Oracle & Khalil the Djinn. Fabulous! Sexy and witty and a good adventure/mystery with well developed and likable characters.
This book started out good. The two main characters had potential but they went largely undeveloped while the author concentrated on the "kink". All I could think of as I read the story was "Oh no! Not another Anita Blake! Please no!" All the other books in this series had just the right amount of sex thrown in as spice to an already great story. It's not like Ms. Harrison couldn't think of an interesting plot -- this is a great story. It's not that she couldn't think up the characters -- these had appeared in earlier books and had lots of potential. When does fictional sex go from spice to spoiler? I can't say but I know it when I read it. I choose to believe that Thea Harrison won't go over the cliff as have other paranormal romance authors. Please.
I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.
Excellent paranormal series. I really appreciate this one. From the first book in this series to this one!! I'm loving them all. Cannot wait for the next!!
As good as watching painting getting dried
Please stop dragging the story if there is not much material or action.
I liked the two dominant characters. It was fun to follow the tension.
The cabin. Yep, definitely the cabin.
I think Ms. Eastlake has done a great job with the entire series. She does a great job bouncing between the masculine and feminine characters. Convincing and I forget that she's there, which is a great compliment.
Elder Races get freaky :)
Good piece of escapism. Well written and well edited. This isn't my favorite of the series, but worth the credit.
I got sidetracked by the novella's, so it took me a while to get back by this book. I must say Thea Harrison through me for a loop with this one! I always thought Aryal and Grim would be the match, but Aryal and Quentin I would never have believed. When Dragos sends Aryal and Quentin to Numenlaur on a two-fold mission, I didn't think both would return and they almost didn't. The first part of the mission was to settle their personal fight and the second part was to ensure no one was there that shouldn't be.
It was fun to watch how they both thought along the same lines so much of the time and to watch how they slowly began to work together. Then when they were captured by the Russian Witch and the shadow wolves, they really come together with one goal in mind, kill the witch. When Aryal is hurt so bad that she may never fly again and isn't sure she wants to live, it's Quentin who gives her back the strength to go on and encourages her to believe that she will fly again. I loved when Thea had them tease about being the parents to the 3 young elves that the witch had also captured and how they got them to safety.
I think one of the most touching parts is when Aryal tells Quentin of the promise she made a long time ago to her mate. Not knowing that he would use those same words when she is having surgery to repair her wings. Not even Dragos could hold her at one point during the surgery, but with those words Quentin did.
Thea Harrison wrote a great story around two very dominate personalities and gives us a look into Numenlaur that we had to this point not had much of. As for Sophie Eastlake's narration, what can I say but she has done another great job!! Together they make a great pair!
I spend 90+ minutes a day in my car, Audible makes it enjoyable regardless of what's happening in traffic. My taste varies from endurance fitness to economics and from to combat stories and romance novels.
While I've enjoyed the entire Elder Race series, this quickly became my favorite. That Harpy is something else and it was a great read to see her character fully developed. The tension in this one builds beautifully and makes the climax oh-so worth it. Great author, great reader, great series.
I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
Wow! I am a little disappointed... Not what I expected for Ariel's book. Although, Ariel is such a tough and blantly *itchy character, I should have figured her book would be difficult. I think if Quentin was a bit more dominate, and really strapped her down... maybe this would have worked...
I was so happy when Quentin joined the Sentinels...but he is contanstly fighting with Ariel, which pissed Dragos off... We really don't see Q and Pya togther much in this book... so I was a bit disappointed for that too... They are best friends, so Pya should have at least seperated a fight or two between Q and Ariel.
The smex was ok... nothing like Dragos and Pya or Grace and Khalial....
I like the story... but it was just not as good as the other books... I really hope Harrison gets her groove back... This feels more like a filler book, until the next big battle... or more like a book 2!
Good credit or sale if you have the other books... Don't buy... and just pass this up if you haven't read/listen to books 1-5
Narration was awesome... Eastlake is perfect for this series.
