Publisher's summary

Believe in second chances this Christmas.

Ellie Marsden couldn't wait to shake the dust of Branding Iron, Texas off her heels and chase after bright lights, big city, and a wealthy husband. Now she's come home, divorced, a little disillusioned, and a whole lot pregnant. Leave it to her one-time high school sweetheart, cattle rancher Jubal McFarland, to point out that citified Ellie is as out of place in small-town Texas as her teacup poodle. So why is there something about being back - and being with Jubal - that feels surprisingly right?

Jubal's eight-year-old daughter, Gracie, needs a mother, but he hasn't found the perfect woman. Or maybe the problem is that he did find her, and had his heart broken when she left town. Gracie's already falling hard for Ellie and that ball of fluff she calls a dog. And no matter how hard the rugged cowboy tries to resist, there's no denying the appeal of first love and sweet new beginnings - especially when there's a little Christmas magic in the air.

Skip it Skip it Skip it.

When it’s free, it’s usually garbage. This one easily falls into that category. From the narrator who was the worst, to the story that was for, maybe a teenager, don’t waste your time. Or, it you get it because it’s free, skip to the epilogue.. it’s all you need.

Bad, just really bad overall.

Everything about this book was a turn off. The main character, Ellie is a snob. She cannot wait to leave both her small town and the "love of her life," Jubile behind for the big city. Well, she got the big city life she craved and a hubby who cheats on her. Wah Wah. So Ellie has to scurry home, divorced and 8 months pregnant but driving a BMW and wearing cashmere, y'all., The minute she enters town she is critical of everyone and everything in it. She thought her baby shower that the town folk gave her was tacky. She judges everything. It is just too much and she does not change at all throughout the book. But Jubile still loves her? Um, ok. The dialogue is simplistic and in a " See Jane Run " style. Totally banal. Horrible audio book and a complete waste of my time.

Good!

I liked this book. Though at first I was not a fan of the FMC, she is self-centered and elitist. But she grows on ya and in the end there is a happy ending. I took one star off for the predictability. Overall is was a nice tale of second chance love, family and resilience told by a great narrator.
