Publisher's summary

Since time began, there have been Nightwalkers - the races of the night who live in the shadows of the moonlight. Love with humans is absolutely forbidden, and one man makes certain to uphold this ancient law: Jacob, the Enforcer.

For 700 years, he has resisted temptation. But not tonight... Jacob knows the excuses his people give when the madness overtakes them and they fall prey to their lust for humans. He's heard every one and still brought the trespassers to justice. Immune to forbidden desires, uncontrollable hungers, or the curse of the moon, his control is total... until the moment he sees Isabella on a shadowy New York City street. Saving her life wasn't in his plans. Nor were the overwhelming feelings she arouses in him. But the moment he holds her in his arms and feels the soft explosion of her body against his, everything changes. Their attraction is undeniable, volatile, and completely against the law. Suddenly everything Jacob has ever believed is inflamed by the heat of desire. Bring on the night.

Distractingly unoriginal

Would you try another book from Jacquelyn Frank and/or Xe Sands?

Would I try another one? Sure. My issues with this book don't mean other books will have the same problems.

What was most disappointing about Jacquelyn Frank’s story?

The hero and heroine's name seem an unabashed Twilight fan-fiction reference. However, the distracting thing for me was how the cultural, genetic and "romantic" mores of ElfQuest by Wendy Pini seem to have been thoroughly plundered for this novel. Switch demons and druids for elves and their mating and courtship behaviors are verbatim from that series, a series started in 1977 and highly influential amongst fantasy fans around the world. I would have preferred an honest stab at creating something totally new and perhaps falling short of expectations than taking someone else's famous creations and harvesting it for your own book.

What aspect of Xe Sands’s performance would you have changed?

Some mispronunciations (calling mores as in cultural mores, pronounced more-ay "mores" like 'may I have some more'). Also the limitations of having to do males voices preventing more inflection in the reading. Sentences we are told are yelled or shouted are spoken in the same volume as things that are whispered. I don't want a narrator screaming in my ear, but there should be more inflection. Also, the story indicates the heroine is from New York with characters commenting on her Brooklyn sounding accent and there was zero attempt at that though the demon-folk were given a generic "exotic" accent of some kind. However, I think she is an adequate narrator and seeing her listed as a books narrator for anything in this genre would not scare me off from reading it.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Absolutely not. Trite, predictable, written as someone thinks people should talk instead of how people actually do talk.

Any additional comments?

Embarrassingly derivative.

The beginning of a new addiction

Would you listen to Jacob again? Why?

Yes, and I have. Eventhough Xe Sands voice with the male characters can be repetitive, she voices alot of emotions into the characters. The storyline is different and grabs your interest from the moment you hear Jacob speaking.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like Gideon. I have to believe there is more to him under that no nonesense exterior.

Have you listened to any of Xe Sands’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first time listening to her performance. She was ok. The male character voices can be repetitive and sometimes you can't decipher one male from another.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed alot.

good, not great!

This book is good.I read all the way to the end. the performance was great and the accents were great. The story was ok and some parts were a little cheesy. It did keep me wondering what was going to happen and found some parts funny. the beginning is a little slow and there was a point where i was about to put it down, but once i got to the middle it started to get good and the ending was great. I may try the second in the series to give it a shot. Overall the book as good, but not one of my favorites.

Enjoyable read!

What did you love best about Jacob?

This was a well written story line. I went in thinking that Jacob was an angel only to be surprised to find that he's really a demon although he is not cruel or evil. The stroy also makes you look at your thoughts on race relationships.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Jacob?

One of the most memorable moments for me happened when Jacob realizes he loves a human, which is forbidden. This is one of the area's that race came into play for me. "Race", as written in this story, had to do with being a demon, human, druid, angel, or necromacer. It was not about color it was more about ethnic genealogical lineage. This story, to me, was about taking the time to understand and accept another race. It made me think about understanding, and excepting those NOT like me.

What about Xe Sands’s performance did you like?

Ms Sands did an excellent job on the different characters voices. It was very esay to follow and "see" each person introuduced to the story. Excellent Job!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Each time Jacob makes love to Isabell. The tenderness he shows when it is in his nature to be viscious and uncaring during the act of love making. I also liked the moment when Jacob realizes the women the other demon's have pursued were their one true mate.

Any additional comments?

Enjoyed the story very much. I have also placed an order for the rest of the audio books in this series and I'm looking forward to hearing each story!

The Demons Druid

The story was a bit unique which is nice having a more original twist to the story.Still enough information that is expected to understand the story. The narrator was good, but her accent with Jacob was some what annoying and Bella’s voice over was also a bit whiny. So even though she was a good narrator,I think the two voice overs were not her best work.Story was okay, was glad when it was over and most likely wont be listening to any following in the series.

AMAZING.

Jacob is one of the best books I’ve listened to. It is definitely in my top 5 since 2010. I didn’t know if I would like it because of the whole DEMON angle. I don’t mint the vampire or shape –shifter thing but demon was a little out of my comfort zone. Once I got past that it was actually a really good book. The characters were amazing, the storyline was brilliant, and the narrator was wonderful. What more can you ask for?
