It happened at the Ball….
Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren’t entirely “the thing.” And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London’s most eligible aristocrat.
It happened in the garden…
When Marcus shockingly – and dangerously – swept her into his arms. Lillian was overcome with a consuming passion for a man she didn’t even like. Time stood still; it was as if no one else existed…thank goodness they weren’t caught very nearly in the act!
It happened one autumn.…
Marcus was a man in charge of his own emotions, a bedrock of stability. But with Lillian, every touch was exquisite torture, every kiss an enticement for more. Yet how could he consider taking a woman so blatantly unsuitable…as his bride?

~~~~~~~HOPEFUL ROMANTIC~~~~~~~~~ ~~Love Audiobooks~~ Especially Historical & Inspirational Romances ~~No Spoilers Here~~
This book is even better than book one "Secrets of a Summer Night." It has romance, mystery, intrigue, and some whit. If you like historical romances you will love this one. Wonderful book.
I was irritated by the way Ms. Landor portrayed the voice of the main female character. It made me hate the main character by the end of the book. I realize she was to be outspoken, but it came across as arrogant. Also it took me half the book to get used to her male voices.
All in all the story was ok, I will read the series in book form and skip this narrator.
I am a big fan of Romance novels and audio books are my favourite for travel to work. I am sad the so FEW are available outside the USA :(
Love this book in audio and just as much in print. The wallflowers series is such a breath of fresh air for historical romance. The characters are lively and different and don't let the normal restrictions stop them from having a wonderful time.
Lillian and Marcus are easily my favourite couple of the series. They are completely different and manage to find love in each other that makes me sigh every time.
A wonderful romance novel.
I love books! Audiobooks take stories to the next level. I'm obsessed with Audible and will try to rate all of my books. Happy Listening! ;)
I have spent every available minute of the past three days listening to this story and inLOVED it!!! It was much better than the first book in the Walflower series. Lillian Bowman is an untamed American heiress looking for a husband. Marcus Westcliff is a British aristocrat who seems to be uptight and conservative. They really know how to get under each other's skin and push every button. But all the fighting was masking a very powerful passion.
This book is very funny, romantic, with red hot passion and very unexpected situations happening. I don't like to give spoilers but what happens towards the end was a big surprise and gave a lot of curiosity to see how the hero of the next book could possibly be redeemed.
Narration: Rosalyn Landor did an excellent job narrating this book. Very good accents and I could easily distinguish each character. She added so much feeling and intensity to an already good storyline. This audiobook is a must listen!!!
Excellent sequel to "Secrets of a Summer Night." The story of Lillian and Marcus is fantastic! I can hardly wait until the audio versions of the next two books are released. As always, Rosalyn Landor does a phenomenal job with the narration. If you like historical romance, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!
This is one of my top 5 novels of all time. The narrator was pretty good except for Lillain's voice. She sounded like a 45 year old woman. It was totally obnoxious and pretty much ruined the audiobook for me.
Lillian's character is wonderful. Love strong women and she is certainly strong. Marcus is strong, rich and willful as well. A strong hate/dislike relationship changes to a passionate one. As expected from Lisa Kleypas, she ends this book with an incident that proves to both leading characters they love one another with much passion. This discovery then leads to an admission of love which Lisa K's characters often find difficult to do until the very end. It was time well spent.
Just love these characters. Lillian is one of my favorites, just so different as one of those 'Americans', and so funny how she doesn't care to fit in with the stuffy English society. Can hardly wait to listen to the other two.
This reveiw may have some SPOILERS
Of all the books I've read from Lisa Kleypas, I think this is first time I really could not stand the heroine of the book. I understand strong willed and usually Lisa gets it right. Lillian, however was equal parts annoying and irritating. She was childish, arrogant, selfish and rude. I know her parents were a real trip, but to me that did not excuse the way she behaved. Even her sister felt the need to apologize to a mutual friend for the things that Lillian said to her. When Lillian got so angry that Westcliff talked to her father about them that she left her room in her night clothes, seemed just too much. Overall I think this was a good story and I loved all the other characters. Yes, even St.Vincent and the old countess. At least they did'nt have crazy mood swings.
My favorite authors: Tess Gerritsen, Anne Perry, Deborah Crombie, & Lisa Scottoline. Also, MC Beaton/Marion Chesney writes hilarious fluff.
While I don't enjoy all of Kleypas' books, I find her Wallflower Series pretty good. Books 2 and 3 are my favorites. If you have read Book 1, you had to know that the H/h in Book 2 were going to get together - they've been chomping at the bit to fight with each other since they met. Both strong personalities end up being tempered (only slightly - no one becomes a wuss) by their love for each other. The h does come across as rather immature because of some of her behavior, but if you have ever known someone who brings out the worst in you (in that you desire to do the opposite of what they tell you), then you'll understand her motivation. I find the H extremely likeable as he is both very strong-willed, but very intelligent and honorable as well. There's thought and planning behind his demands.
I'm not really a fan of this narrator, though. She kind of made me dislike the heroine at first, and made the hero sound overly stuffy.
"Very entertaining - escapism at its best"
Great story And very good narration. I love my historical romances and don't get tied up in the exactness that some of my fellow listeners require - if you love escapism this is well worth a credit!
"Kleypas does it again"
i'm a big fan of lisa kleypas' writing style "It Happened One Autumn"was a thorough delight. I couldn't put it down I adored Lillian,I thought that Marcus, the intriguing Earl of Westcliff and Lillian Bowman the brash American heiress where two characters that made me feel so satisfied the whole book through
The plot of the story was very good with Lillian and Westcliff initially attempting to deny then to come to terms with their unexpected attraction to each other and then gradually discovering the deeper facets of each other's personality. Realizing that despite their mutual attraction, Westcliff considers her the precisely wrong woman to take as his wife, Lillian begins a flirtation with the fabulously handsome and rakish Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent. Although Sebastian is obviously being set up as the hero for the next book in the series, he is far more than wallpaper in this story. His character is well-developed
so if you like a hero who is strong yet unable to control his emotions in the face of true love, sexual tension that is electric, witty banter, and a hero and heroine who are strong in all areas, yet vulnerable to love, this is the book for you.
I HIGHLY recommend it!
