Publisher's summary

It wasn't just her homemade brownies that made Walker find Elissa irresistible....

When ex-Marine Walker Buchanan stops to help Elissa Towers change a tire, he tells himself it's just the neighborly thing to do. And when Elissa finds herself baking him a thank-you pie, she's just returning the favor...right?

Both of them have sworn off dating: Elissa's determined to protect her little girl, and that means ditching her taste for dangerous men...especially former Marines with dark secrets.

Walker knows that he's not cut out for hearth and home...his own crazy family made sure of that.

But the sparks won't stop flying between them.

Now the two are struggling to keep their relationship "just friends", but with every kiss, their rules fly out the window.

Critic reviews

"Mallery is at her addictive best in the charming second installment of her Buchanan family saga....The best-selling author crafts vivid characters and a winning story about the risk and joy of second love, studded with warm, alluring sex scenes." (Publishers Weekly)

Great Romance

This is the best romance novel I've read in awhile, and I read them often. The story has real depth and all of the characters are very touching.

Thanks to the author for a great read!

Great story line, odd accent from narrator

I lived in Seattle 17 years and never heard a southern drawl. Since all of the folks are from Seattle, I found the accent very distracting. Enjoyed the story.

Enjoyable!

This is the story of a troubled Marine and a frightened woman hiding her child from the child’s drug abusing father. Neither person is looking for a relationship, Elyssa has trust issues and a young daughter to take care of and protect, Walker is a psychological battle scarred military Veteran. Various issues, problems keep throwing these two together, not to mention the lil girl whose sweet innocent had a way of worming herself into Walker’s heart. This is book two in the series, and we got to witness Penny’s baby being born, catch up with Reid, watch Gloria take a fall, and Naomi returns happy and content. The only sad part is the sister, hopefully we will see her in a later book.

The narrator did a commendable job, made the story quite enjoyable.

It's truly Irresistible

I found it impossible to stop listening to this book!
Cecelia Frontero has a deep, silky voice and it goes so well with Walker's persona.
One of the best books I've listened to.
I'll be buying more books if Cecelia Frontero is reading .... that voice!!

Stunning writing too - you can always count on Susan Mallery for a red hot, fast past book.

Southern accent/twang in Seattle?

The narrator of the book ruined it for me. The narrator puts a twang on all the dialogue; all of the characters grew up and live in Seattle, not the south. She also lilts high so every sentence ends like a question in the dialogue. It drove me nuts!

good flow of story

this second book in the series plays directly off the first book. I did prefer the reader of the first book better- Theres Plummer. I had to get used to the change in voices for the characters but then settled in and enjoyed the book. I enjoyed the light romance that grows slow and steady.
