Now, an incumbent US senator seeking reelection and paving his road to the White House, he's living his dreams...until he meets her.
Incumbent is a stand-alone novel intended for listeners over 18.

Romance novels seem to focus on bad boys as lead characters so I was delighted that the Hero (Drake) in this book was a nice, sweet, sexy and very normal man. The heroine (Lucy) is also quite ordinary yet there are issues with her estranged family. As the story of Lucy and Drake builds, we witness their strong attraction grow into a loving relationship, yet the shadow of Lucy's past influences their future together. It's a well written story of learning from past mistakes and focusing on a future of better choices.
I appreciate great narration and Tracy Marks did it again with this book. She is always consistently good and one of the few narrators who enhance the enjoyment of audio books. Tracy is one of the rare narrators that you can actually "hear" smile. Such a delight! 😉
💕 Note: This is definitely an adult romance. The story is engaging, unpredictable, seductive and does have detailed sex scenes and some strong language. 💕
It was my pleasure to review this book and I'm grateful to the author, narrator, or publisher for providing me this audiobook at no cost in exchange for my unbiased review because I enjoyed the listen. I recommend this book and I will be getting the next in this series.
I find it very fitting that the summary ends Lucy's description with "Until she meets him" and Drake's description with "Until he meets her." Each of them are on a very separate road before they meet and both of them are trying to stay under the radar in regards to what their life dreams really are.
Though the chemistry at their first meeting is off the charts (which I love) they're both cautiously weighing the pros and cons of letting go of their well made plans in pursuit of love.
I liked the maturity and strength of both the characters as well as their love for their friends and families. It was wonderful to read a slightly bittersweet love story without screaming "What were you thinking?" at one of the characters because they did something supremely dumb.
Romance, heat, the reluctance to fall in love and a secret that could ruin it all. These are all ingredients for a stellar love story.
Tracy Marks narration only added to it all with her timing and effervescent voice which was perfect for this story.
This was such a sweet story!!
Notes worth mentioning for this book:
Great cover - cute, and eyecatching ;)
If the title didn't clue you in then the description probably did: this book has elements of politics but no matter which party you support, reading this book won't get your back up.
DRAKE IS SUCH A GOOD GUY!
LUCY IS SUCH A GOOD WOMAN!
I am absolutely blaming my reading tastes of late. I blame my unhealthy diet of Motorcycle Club books and T.M. Frazier's stories I have been scarfing down that have given me a big dose of dark JERK Heroes. (Hmm. JEROES?) Do I enjoy those books? Heck yes, I'm happy and horrified the whole way through. But it has been so long since I've read about a normal guy - one who never harms the heroine, never cheats on her, never verbally abuses her - that I was tickled to listen to Drake's story unfolding. Yay for Nice Guys!! And Lucy? No sniveling, whiny, snipey, weepy, Mary-Sue here. She's normal. She's NICE.
The romance unfolded so sweet. The book clipped along at a great pace, I thought I knew where it was going but WOW I was wrong!
I liked the story very much. I am so glad to see this is a series! I can't wait to find out how relationships play out for the other Prescott's in the family - and I hope Mason + G get together!
Let's talk audio:
Great sound quality, absolutely no complaints. This was the first time I've heard Tracy Marks and her voice is great. Easy on the ears, reads with inflection, paced well; lovely job!!

Senator Drake Prescott is the hot sexy incumbent and when he sets his sights on Lucy Washburn he is completely attracted to her! Lucy has history that could prove detrimental to their future. This makes for an emotional journey of discovery as I listen and I couldn't put it down!. Given the political storyline, launching this book at a time when everones focus is on the political arena is perfect.
A Maze Ing, This is a amazing book, I hate politics and I still loved it.
I loved how Drake stood up for Lucy and how she stood up for him. Neither of them would let the other fall.
I Love Tracy I have listened to several her books and she does not disappoint. Her voice is very soothing, and has a way of pulling you into the story like you right there. I never feel lost or not knowing who is speaking when I listen to her.
I never wanted to stop listening.

It makes me happy to wake up everyday and look forward to listening. Many times I listen while doing artwork. I find it very relaxing.
INCUMBENT was such a great listen. I couldn't turn it off and came very close to listening straight through. This was a contemporary romance and the story line was engaging as well as engrossing. There were a few tastefully done lovemaking scenes that rounded out the story. I loved how the chapters alternated between Lucy, Drake, and Mason. I can't remember if Drake's sister had a chapter but she was a great supporting character as was Drake's brother who made a job for Lucy after she was forced to resigned from her teaching job.
The characters were very well developed and very likeable minus the ex-girlfriend and Drake's PR guy. Even though this was politic based, there really wasn't much politics involved other than Drake's high-profile job. This was an excellent story and it's not my usual genre but I loved it. I hope there's more to come from JOANNE SCHWEHM. There was everything right about this story including the narration.
I thought that TRACY MARKS did an AMAZING job reading this book. I can't imagine anyone else. Her style was absolutely perfect. Where you would think a male might read a book such as this, she really enhanced the listen. She's definitely a skilled voice actor and I'll listen to more work from her in the future. She made this book better. An awesome job.

Loved this book, the story was beautifully written. Need a good romance or love story? This is the book for you!
Sci-Fi, Fantasy, historical fiction, mystery, thrillers with sarcasm are my favorites with some Romance thrown in for fun.
While not really an episode of Love American Style, this is a sweet love story with a few twists. The first is that Senator Drake Prescott is actually an honorable, nice guy who is also a Republican. Shocked the heck out of me. Lucy Washburn is a school teacher with a past that eats away at her but who has luckily found a best friend, Mason, who supports her no matter what.
I really liked the growth in the interaction between the lead characters. Also the dedication of the two friends, Lucy & Mason, and the boundless love between Drake and his fabulous family.
The narrator, Tracy Marks, worked well for the story.

This book had me hooked from the start. I loved the story, the characters, the romance, the patriotism... I don't often give 5 stars because I think that a book has to be truly exceptional to be given that rating. This is a definite 5 star book! Joanne Schwehm is an author that I will be looking for in the future. I can't wait to read about the rest of the family and hear their stories. I listened to the audio version of this book and Tracy Marks did a wonderful job narrating. She put so much emotion in her voice that I was often near tears or laughter! Great book!!
