Publisher's summary

They call him the Devil Earl - a scoundrel and accused murderer who grew up on the violent London streets. A proper young lady risks more than her reputation when consorting with the roguishly handsome Lucian Langdon, but Lady Catherine Mabry believes she has no choice. To protect those she loves, she would do anything - even strike a bargain with the devil himself.

Lucian desires respectability and a wife above all else, but the woman of his choosing lacks the social graces to be accepted by the aristocracy. Catherine can help Lucian gain everything he wants. But what she asks for in exchange will put their very lives in jeopardy. When danger closes in, Catherine discovers a man of immense passion and he discovers a woman of immeasurable courage. As secrets from his dark past are revealed, Lucian begins to question everything he knows to be true, including the yearnings of his own heart.

What the Dickens?

Despite the boring narration and the too numerous mentions and/or parallels to "Oliver Twist" I still really enjoyed this book. I cared about the main characters and the story was interesting. Even though there were several unbelievable parts, I still found myself rooting for the main couple. Overall it was worth a credit, but I'm glad I got it on sale instead.

Fantastic new series

What did you love best about In Bed with the Devil?

A romantic twist blending this story with Oliver Twist.
The Characters and the plot, lots of twists and turns.
You really didn't know where this story was going to the very end!
Can't wait for the rest of the books

What about Susan Ericksen and Antony Ferguson ’s performance did you like?

I loved Anthony Ferguson, as Luke, reading excerpts from his diary

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was very weepy as the book drew to a close, the story could have gone either way, and you just wanted it to work out with Catherine and Luke.

Any additional comments?

A great book, can't wait for book 2 about Dodger.

convincing Victorian romance

Damsel in distress and a gentleman in disguise. Known plot in a refreshingly new packaging. Enjoyable from the first minute to the very end. Good narration though a times I found it a bit too forced. Still, highly recommendable.

Seemed to Last Forever

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I found the plot to be predictable and the story seemed to go on forever. There was much that could have been deleted without really changing the plot. I got incredibly tired of hearing how the H had "always loved Franny".

Would you be willing to try another book from Lorraine Heath? Why or why not?

No. There are so many books and so little time. I would prefer to read/listen to those I enjoy more. For this genre, I will stick with Julia Quinn, Julie Ann Long, Sarah MacLean, etc.

What three words best describe Susan Ericksen and Antony Ferguson ’s voice?

Antony Ferguson was fine. Susan Ericksen had a breathy, overly dramatic presentation that I did not enjoy.

Exceptional!

Compared to some I've given 5 Stars, because they were entertaining, I would rate "In Bed With The Devil" 10 Stars.

It was compelling with it's unique story, great cast of characters, and superb narration.

It has so much going for it, I don't want to give anything more away than has already been said....you deserve to be able to enjoy it to the fullest, as you marvel at the unexpected.

Hard to stop listening.

What did you love best about In Bed with the Devil?

This was such a good story. The main character Lucien was flawed, yet so caring, fearless, and proves to be a good man despite his upbringing and his troubled past. The heroine Catherine was brave and willing to take on gossip and risk ruination of her reputation in order to protect her friend, asking Lucien for his help and accepting her attraction and feelings for the "devil earl". I loved Catherine's spunk and frankness in her conversations with Lucien.

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen and Antony Ferguson ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first listen to Susan Erickson and Antony Ferguson. I wasn't wild about Susan's voice in the beginning - I thought her male voice was hard to distinguish from her female voice. But, as the story continued, I grew accustomed to it, and she was good in every other way. Antony's voice was only used in very brief moments to recollect the past in Lucien's background - very minimal contribution.

Any additional comments?

I am now a fan of Lorraine Heath, and am going to read more of her novels!

Fun and Flirty

What made the experience of listening to In Bed with the Devil the most enjoyable?

There are great interwoven relationships that enhance the story. Each person is relevant and add to the plot.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lady Catherine is a great character, though a bit on the naive side. She is caring, bright, witty, and just fun.

What about Antony Ferguson and Susan Ericksen ’s performance did you like?

Antony Ferguson did a very good job and discerning each character. I love Susan Ericksen. I would listen to pretty much anything she narrates.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did laugh out loud a couple of times.

Any additional comments?

If you are looking for an out of the box non-formulaic, non predictable book, this is not it. It is a fun and easy listen. It is something you could just put on to feel good.

Fabulous Mystery Romance

There are so many twists and turns. What a great story. Catherine and Fannie's respect for one another and understanding for who was in what role without the Duke understanding even his own destiny is just romantic.

This is a romance novel without the silly, crazy, hot sex pieces. It does have heat but this is truly an organic romance story. I can't wait for story 2 although less excited about Jack's story and wish story #2 focused on the continuation of the life of the characters in book number one.

Loved it, but...

Any additional comments?

I found that the narration was dragging, once I changed the speed of the listen to 1 1/2, it was just right!
