Publisher's summary

Ewan McCabe, the eldest, is a warrior determined to vanquish his enemy. Now, with the time ripe for battle, his men are ready and Ewan is poised to take back what is his-until a blue-eyed, raven-haired temptress is thrust upon him. Mairin may be the salvation of Ewan's clan, but for a man who dreams only of revenge, matters of the heart are strange territory to conquer. The illegitimate daughter of the king, Mairin possesses prized property that has made her a pawn-and wary of love. Her worst fears are realized when she is rescued from peril only to be forced into marriage by her charismatic and commanding savior, Ewan McCabe. But her attraction to her ruggedly powerful new husband makes her crave his surprisingly tender touch; her body comes alive under his sensual mastery. And as war draws near, Mairin's strength, spirit, and passion challenge Ewan to conquer his demons-and embrace a love that means more than revenge or land.

this started out with a bang

I loved the beginning of this book, around the first 25%... But after that it becomes a constant damsel in distress book. I began to think she was going to also be hit by lightning any minute. I liked the parts with her and Crispin, the little boy, very sweet and moving. I did enjoy how Ewan came to know and love her. After such a strong start for the heroine, she spent a great deal of the rest of the book crying and vomiting. Ugh... She is feisty still, but I went from exhilarated to passive interest. There were several likable characters and I enjoyed how Ewan's brothers came to care for Mairin as well. I don't care for the cover, it looks too modern for this story.

Great!

Overall a great story with stellar narration. I haven't listened or read a Highlander Romance in a long time and this one was a good reintroduction.

not worth a credit

if you have the romance package, it really doesn't cost you anything other than time. If you're looking to purchase, I wouldn't waste a credit unless you're intent on listening to an entire series. Too many plotline inconsistencies. Is the heroine strong or weak? Hero savvy or stupid? Too many times I felt like the h/h were blind, unthinking, or just plain dumb. Every time it happened, it felt like the situation was a set up to move the story along - which it might have been, but as the reader I'm not supposed to be thinking that. The forced situations of the story and the inconsistencies of the characters also made it impossible for me to feel anything for the h/h.

It was ok

I had a hard time listening to the whole thing. The story line was not great. The narrative was done in a way that her voice painted one picture of the characters but then the story painted another. I probably won't continue with the rest of the books.

Predictable

It was OK but I wouldn't listen to it again. And what the hell is loving? That's a terrible word for sex.

What a fun story!

I was a little put off by the cover art, which was so explicit and not very accurate. The hero, Ewan, was described as having long hair, but I guess that I am nit-picking. Anyway, this is the story of Mairin Stewart, illegitimate daughter of the recently deceased king of Scotland. Once she marries and produces a child, she will come into her inheritance, a strategic plot of land which is desired by many of the local lairds. The story starts with her being kidnapped by Duncan Cameron, one of these lairds, who plans to force her into marriage. She resists (of course!) and while being spirited back to his keep, she encounters a lost child, young Crispin McCabe, who wandered away from his clan's keep and ended up being kidnapped, as well. She take him under her protection, escapes, and ends up back on the McCabe lands. She meets up with Crispin's father, the widowed Ewan McCabe and sparks fly. This was a fun story, with lots of plot twists, and lots of steamy parts, too. Still, the story held up and it did not feel like a series of sex scenes. I came to really care about the characters and wanted to know more about them. So glad that this is the first of a trilogy!

not the best...but not the worst...

What did you like best about In Bed with a Highlander? What did you like least?

It took a while for me to even care about the heroine or the hero.... so it dragged until the second half when the story line picked up.. I did enjoy it and the second book is proving to be worth it!

Have you listened to any of Kirsten Potter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

It's ok.. she moves pretty fast though... but her accent in genuine and easy to listen to

Did In Bed with a Highlander inspire you to do anything?
