Jesse Sampson and her two younger sisters have lived a hard life on the streets of Seattle, Washington, for the past several years. Four years before, the Earth received its first visitors from space, causing mass fear. Alone in a world gone mad with just her sisters, Jesse has learned to use the darkness and the remains of the city to survive and keep what was left of her family alive. She has seen the savage side of human nature and finds they are not much different from the aliens who conquered the Earth.
The Trivators have taken control of the Earth to prevent the humans from destroying it in their fear. A world of warriors, they are sent out by the Alliance of Star Systems to seek out new worlds. Their mission is first contact. They are to establish communication with the leaders of the new worlds they find and bring them into the Alliance. Any resistance is to be quickly subdued to prevent unnecessary death of the inhabitants of the new worlds they find. Their payment comes from the success of their mission.
Hunter is what he is called. A hunter, one of the elite clans of the Trivators who seek out those who resist. His abilities to track, capture, and eliminate those who try to harm any warrior are renowned. He finds the tables turned when he becomes the one captured by a group of ruthless humans.
Hunter is shocked when a strange human female risks her life to help him escape only to disappear into the ruins of the city. He now has a new mission, finding the female who saved his life. He is determined to find her before she is damaged by others of her kind.
What he finds is a reward beyond comprehension to a Trivator warrior: a family. Can he convince Jesse that he can give her and her younger sisters a better life on his world? Or will fear keep her from accepting what he has to offer?

This story was fun with some steam! I liked the switch POV and the girls in the story were tough and I loved that too! The bedroom scenes were HOT. I also liked that there was a lot of background detail especially considering it was only 5.5 hours. Usually in shorter stories you feel like things were rushed and I really didn't feel that way at all.
The narration was awesome! I truly enjoyed the deep voice especially during the Male POV but I also was very glad the narrator didn't try to sound like a female, he just lightened his voice a little. He had a great voice for the sexy scenes too ;)
I'm a lover of books, both read and audible.
In Hunter’s claim, we meet Jesse. She is the eldest of three girls, living on the streets of Seattle, Washington after the Earth is conquered by a race of aliens. She is desperately trying to protect her younger sisters from the evils of mankind as well as the warrior aliens that have claimed to have conquered Earth with the intentions of peace. She is making her way back to her hideout with food for her sisters, when she overhears a group of humans about to torture one of the warrior aliens. Unable to just let him die in such a gruesome manner, she risks everything to free him. Jesse wasn’t ready to feel the instant attraction to the strong alpha warrior with the glowing yellow eyes. Nor was she ready for the life changing consequences saving him would have on her and her sisters’ lives. Hunter is amazed that this tiny human female is risking her life in order to save his. In return he does something he never thought he would do; he offers her and her sister his protection by making Jesse his wife. But what Hunter wasn’t expected was a fiesta, stubborn woman with a strong personality and a backbone of steel.
This book was a shocker for me. I wasn’t expected too much from it but I was pleasantly surprised after listening to it. This is my first time listening to a book by S.E. Smith and I have to say I would be looking for more of her work. S.E. Smith does a fanastatic job of building a world and providing detail for her story and characters to grow. S.E. Smith was able to make the heroine strong but still with just the right amount of vulnerability and the hero was a growling alpha male that wasn’t afraid to let his guards down. This book also contains a decent amount of action scenes that made the book interesting from start to finish. From the first page until the end, I was entirely enthralled with this book.
Big Bonus, the narrator, David Brenin, so YUM!! He knows how to tell a story and not just read a book. I eagerly anticipate the next installment of this series.
IMO (in my opinion), pick up the book and give it a try. It is definitely worth the listen.
I'm sad there is only this one book by S. E. Smith. But, not to worry, because the second one in this series (Razor's Traitorous Heart) will be coming soon.
This is so very well written. Women who are strong of character, faithful, determined. Family is everything to Jessie, Jordan, and Taylor, having lost their father the day the aliens landed on Earth and the humans left alive is plagued by groups of rogues doing more damage to their own than the aliens have.
In this book is a Rescue (not planned), by Jessie. She assists Hunter in getting loose from a small group of human rogues who are set on doing him a horrible bodily harm.
From this point, Jessie and Hunter's lives are intertwined.
It's romantic, exciting, adventurous, and positive. I enjoyed it very much and I just can't wait for the next book. This book is a "mild" cliffhanger. What I mean by that is, you don't need to have the next book to complete the relationship that exits between Hunter and Jessie, but it ends with a hint as to who the next book will involve.
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
To be honest I went backwards and forwards looking at this listen and it was in and then out of my basket (me indecisive... well maybe/maybe not). I love S.E. Smith's books and I also love Alpha Aliens too but I thought spending a credit on such a short listen was surely a no no......well how wrong I was!! I obviously gave in and spent the credit because of the rave review by my fellow Reviewers (thank you).
It's all been said before.... good world-building, action, adventure, tension, great characters, an ongoing plot, sex scenes (which IMHO could have been hotter) and a really nice romance where nobody was stupid, there were no secrets or dislikable main characters. An Alien who rescued a 22 year old woman and her 2 younger sisters and all three of them were feisty and weren't captured willingly. But Earth had become a bleak and dangerous place and, in the end, all their futures were changed for the better. The Aliens were so thoughtful, caring and possessive you forgive them for destroying the planet.
Worth a credit? Yes, OK I'll admit it I was wrong..... this book may be on the short side but boy did it pack a lot into those few hours and it was like listening to a much longer book..... so YES creditworthy. Great narration, dual POV's and I'll definitely be following all these loveable characters in the next book in this series.
Hell hath no fury like a woman interrupted while listening to a really good book!
Sometimes, a short story is exactly what I need, and Hunter's Claim was the perfect fit. It ticked off everything I look for in a short romance.
* Steamy Romance - You bet!
* Decent plot with action - Oh, yeah! I love stories where both the hero, and heroin are strong characters! Jesse saves Hunter's life, and he comes to her and her sister rescue.... Plenty of action.
* Great Characters - A must! This short story characters were well development, and I loved getting a glimpse of all the different personalities as they are the main characters in the rest of the series. I'm invested in the characters, and there is no doubt I will be continuing this series.
But the absolute best thing I love, is getting a great story at a great price, and this is why I love Whispersync, and Kindle Unlimited. Because I bought the kindle edition and added the audio for $1.99, I got a great price, (well next to free), and with over 600 titles in my library, I love buying books at a great price.
Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
I don't think this author is for me. The length maybe just a bit too short and story develops like an outline to a series. Author did set you up for the next book. David Brenin is a wonderful narrator and brings our hero, Hunter to life. He does a fab job on all the ladies and outstanding on Taylor. His deep voice is as wonderful as Jonathan Davis reads. Check him out.
The sample was so intriguing and opened like Julie Garwood's Honor's Splendor. I like many short reads and this one had lots of promise, but I felt like author or editor tried to accomplish too much in the 5 hr listen. Make no mistake, this is a romance with suspense/sci fi under tone.
when our hero gets released from his chains.
I tried a few of the Lauren Donner stories that ran along this same theme. Those were just too underdeveloped and repetitive. Again not for me.
This is not my usual genre, I think it might have been the second alien book I've ever read and the other book was by the same author, I think? A Touch of Frost, which was an awesome read too.I really liked Jesse and Hunter. She loved and cared for her two sisters: Taylor and Jordan until it almost killed her. And Hunter, because he grew to love them all and took over the care of them. I really liked Dagger and Saber, too. I'am surprised that this author's next book is about someone who was only mentioned once on the last few pages of the book instead of about Dagger. She left you hanging about what happened to him then didn't write a book about it. AND, no, this is not a cliffhanger but it did leave you wondering.
This was a sensual read so all you Christian readers and "no sex" readers stay away. The F-bomb was let loose 15 times but since I'm a potty-mouth anyway it didn't bother me. But for all of you with Christian ears it would be a horrible thing for you.
As to the narrator: He did a damn good job. He gave Hunter a really sexy voice but with a male reader you'd expect that. He also gave the women a nice feminine voice, too, which you don't expect. Male narrators usually do a terrible job on women but Mr. Brenin did amazingly well. I would definitely want to listen to him again.
I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
Wow! I totally enjoyed this book! It was extremely well written for an alien romance! Right from the beginning of the book, there is action, as Jesse (main h) tries to rescue Hunter from her people... humans that has captured him... Jesse is injured but she has to make it back to her sisters! The first chapter kept me listening, and the book just got better and better as Jesse and her sister made their way to the new alien planet...
Nice smexy time too! Very romantic story... a simply good listen. Well worth a credit, buy or sale..
Narration was great! Brenin did female voices pretty well...
This book is the first in a series, and I am so very hooked already!!!! Yes, Yes, Yes to the alien hotness!!! Great story and plenty of meat on it for future books in the series!
I love the feisty sisters, they are not sitting around waiting to be saved! Hell yes, they will go out and save there man if they have to, you go girl! While this is mostly the eldest sister, Jesse's romance, you have plenty of clues about what is in store for the other girls, when they grow up.
Hunter is super yummy and really sweet for such a big lug! And his two friends Saber and Dagger are pretty darn hot too! Oh yeah, this is going to be an awesome series!
The story is terrific starting out on Earth then moving off to Space. The Sci-fi elements are just enough too keep things interesting, without going all technical. The world building was great to a point, there could probably be more about the Alliance. It was mostly glazed over. I need more detail about how all of that works. Why is this Council in charge of everything? I expect the next book will bring much of what I am looking for in the details.
The narrative is mixed, so you get both leads POV, alternating through the book. I love this style, because it engages you more in the romance. I also like the little rewinds that happen at the switch, you get a little of the same story from the other side of the conversation. It really shows clear distinctions between their thought processes. Venus and Mars, and all that jazz.
The book is a bit smexy. Yup, open bedroom door, with some hot details!! Look out for all that combustible chemistry!!! It is more mainstream detail, than full on erotic. Still it will seriously warm you up!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by David Brenin, who is yummilicious!!! He has this smexy deep rumble to his voice that really works for the sexy aliens. Beware, the steam scenes are a little too hot for public listening, seriously, you will be in the grocery store in need of a cold shower! The man brings all sorts of extra levels to the smexy words!! Fan Face!!! He has a great pace that helps move the action along. I also like that he does not try to go too high with the ladies. He keeps them feminine without the nasal whiny qualities others employ. Definitely on my fav guy list!!
Overall, I really enjoyed the book, even though the middle and end lagged a bit. It became a little repetitive in the plot. There was a whole lot of tell but not enough show in the action on the other planets. I like to be there when stuff goes down, not hear about it after. Even with those complaints, I am totally hooked! I need the next book in audio, like NOW!!! Seriously, do not make me wait, I will stalk David if I have to!
Disclosure - I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.
My only disappointment with this book is that there's not a third one on audible.
I love the characters, especially the women because they don't start out strong and become the weaklings, they start out strong and, at the end of the book, they are still strong, love them. Oh and there is a sense of humor.
"The alliance. book 1"
I enjoyed this story but the ending left me wanting to know what happens. to dagget.
"Lacking female and more narrator and sound effects"
David Brenin sounds like a good narrator, but the story has too many key characters to be carried well with one narrator only. There is clear lack of female voice, and even so there are 6 distinct personalities that more narrators should be introduced. Lack of sound effect is also a noticeable issue. The story overall is much more vibrant read than heard. I have read all the books of this series, and enjoyed them all, but I wish that the next audible would be a better experience.
Sexy, exciting great
I love Taylor and saber
He's amazing love his narration!!
Is a very exciting and I love it!!
I have all books of the series and totally recommended.
"Five hours of pure bliss"
I loved the narrator for this story as he really made it come alive for me.
I am torn between Jesse and Hunter because both Characters were so well portrayed that I felt I knew them personally.
The rescue near the beginning of the book was very enjoyable.
There was but I don't want to give spoilers so I'll let other listeners find out for themselves.
I hadn't come across S. E. Smith nor David Brenin before but I will be on the look out for more from both of them.
Yes! Would recommend to everyone!!!!!!!
Can't say! Spoiler alert
Loved this book! Especially the main female character she was strong and clever. Lovely change from the usual weak scared main characters. I really can't wait for book 2 to come out.
"Thank goodness a strong female lead role"
Absolutely, this book had a great many things going for it. the description in the story was good, the sex scenes were sexy without being vulgar and although the ending wasn't quite what i hoped for however it was OK.
When the three sisters show these Mighty Warriors just what their made of .......... several times! What's that saying ........ Never come between a woman and her man!
I am ashamed to admit until listening to this book thru Audible, I hadn't heard of the extremely talented David Brenin. Whoever, David Brenin brought the characters alive by using the different tones and subtle changes to his voice to bring out the different personality's of the characters it was wonderful. For me his voice was on the right side of smooth and husky mmm reminded me of melting Chocolate.
When you send a message out there into space, you should consider that someone will answer it eventually?
I did mention that the ending missed a bit but I've already ordered the next book which comes out soon. To the Author more please, I found your book gripping, sexy and a breath of fresh air..... please keep them coming (no pun intended) a great book, Thank you
