My first romance novel

This is the first romance novel I have ever read/listened to. The narrator was great. Her voice of both main characters was superb. The story is cute, light and witty.

OMG

What did you like best about How to Marry a Duke? What did you like least?

Best: the end
Least: sooooo drawn out.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Kisses After Dark

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I suppose

What would have made this romance irresistible?

to be more condensed

Any additional comments?

This story was borderline boring. I feel the author could have condensed this story by so much. Way way to long and filled with uselessness. Remember this is only one person's opinion

This Narrator Ruins The Story

I have been a member of audible.com for well over a year now and have downloaded several books over this time. I have developed a fondness for historical romances and for the most part, have thoroughly enjoyed the genre. However, to make an audible book work, it is essential to have an excellent narrator who can bring the story to life. The best narrators are really voice actors with an extensive repertoire of acting ability -- altering inflection, accents and subtle nuances which help to create in partnership with the listener, a theater of the mind. Early on I had the pleasure of discovering one of the best voice actors in this genre-- Rosalyn Landor. She is superior -- the timbre of her rich voice is reminiscent of fine cognac or warm honey. In addition, she has honed her craft to such an art form that few can come close to her vocal performance.

Unfortunately, Ms.Elizabeth Jasicki doesn't even come close. She plows through dragging every line with little emotion, such that I'm finding it difficult to even finish listening. Unfortunately I suppose I didn't listen closely enough to the sample or I would have skipped this one altogether. It's really terrible to listen to a story when the person sounds like they're reading it line by line as if by rote. There is no passion in her work at all.

Sorry to say my advice is to actually read the book -- you'll enjoy it more.

Aggravating to the point of frustration

Any additional comments?

The story line was unbelievable because no young woman would be so biddable as to become a human door mat and return again and again for more abuse. I kept hoping the heroine would redeem herself by growing a spine and at times she would show a tiny bit of it but usually not. The tortured hero is trite and predictable. The story line flips and flops like a fish out of water, the flow is so disjointed I had to keep checking to insure I hadn't accidentally skipped a chapter or two. Certain key points of the story get a big build up and then are over looked making the reader wonder why they were ever mentioned to begin with, and what there conclusions were. The love scenes were anticlimactic and passed over with little significance. The narrator is well spoken but unfortunately she lacks passion and the male parts come off as insipid and impotent furthering the poor plot line. I have read other books by this author and liked them very much but not this one. I can't decide if it's just the narrator or the story or both. If you don't mind listening to mindless drivel then you will probably like it.

It passes time.

This was a different story but had a few many "lusty" parts for my taste. If that is a bonus for you readers then I think you will like this story. For me, I was more interested in the story line and plot than being entertained by such fantasies. The narrator did a wonderful job carrying the story and I thoroughly enjoyed the characters but I cannot say this is a book I got "attached" to as some avid readers can probably relate.

Nice story

What did you like about this audiobook?

The setting and the independence of the main female character.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

It was fiction - no real "subject matter"

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

It is a fun novel

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

She did not have much change in timber or pitch between characters. Not the best narrator I've listened to.

Do you have any additional comments?

It was a fun, easy listen. Could have done without the details of sexual engagements. Less graphic always better.

Charming!

I thought this story was charming! Even though it was pretty obvious what the big secret was going to be, the author still managed to provide unexpected twists and turns. I thought the narrator did an excellent job of providing different voices for the various characters and reading the novel in a way that kept you interested. This may be an audiobook, but it's still a real "page turner." :)
