Publisher's Summary

Fiona Amberly is more intrigued by the Roman ruins near her manor house than she is by balls. When her dying grandmother worries about Fiona's future, Fiona stammers that she's secretly engaged. Soon she finds herself promising that she will introduce her husband-to-be by Christmas.

Percival Carmichael, new Duke of Alfriston, is in a hurry. He's off to propose to London's most eligible debutante. After nearly dying at Waterloo, he's vowed to spend the rest of his life living up to the ton's expectations.

When Fiona tries to warn a passing coach about a tree in the road, the driver mistakes her for a highwaywoman. Evidently he's not used to seeing women attired in clothes only suitable for archaeology, waving knives. After the driver flees, Fiona decides she may as well borrow the handsome passenger....

    "Cute!"
Would you consider the audio edition of How to Capture a Duke to be better than the print version?

I couldn't say, never having read the book. With the audio edition being narrated by Rosalyn Landor I'd say the audio would be preferred.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Fiona Amberly. Her activities form the foundation of the story. Fearing ton balls she leaves London 2 weeks after "coming out". To keep her beloved grandmother from worrying about her future she invents a fiance, a Captain who is away fighting in the war. She is to introduce her husband-to-be at Christmastime and as the time draws near she panics.

Have you listened to any of Rosalyn Landor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

All her performances are spot on! Her narration made this book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, it was too far-fetched to be believable so my emotions were not involved. It did induce a few smiles, though.

    Any additional comments?

If you like fanciful stories you should like "How to Capture a Duke". I don't normally care for over-imaginative and unrealistic stories, but this was cute. If the author would have made the Duke/Captain's personality fit a man who had successfully led men in battle against Napoleon Bonaparte it would have improved the story.

    "Regency Screwball Comedy"

This story reminds me of the screwball comedies popular in the 1930s; I laughed numerous times throughout. If you are looking for an enjoyable undemanding listen featuring an insecure duke and a would be archologist heroine, then this is the book for you.

    "Delightful"

Bianca Blythe is a new author for me and I must say that I am suitably impressed with her story. Rosalyn Landor is as usual totally professional and made listening to this audiobook a total delight.
We have Fiona, a keen Archeologist and unmarried young lady stopping the carriage in which Percival, the new Duke of Alfriston is traveling to warn of a fallen tree in the road and she is mistaken for a highway woman. Of course she goes along with that concept and hell breaks loose.
I loved that both main characters were strong and loving in their own way and that they didn't just sit down and sulk if things didn't go the way they wanted them to but seemed to make the best of what was dealt them in life.
I found this story to be most enjoyable and very entertaining and will be quite happy to read or listen to others by this author.

    "Charming and fun ;-)"

I thought this book was an entertaining Historical Romance and the kind of book that you should read when you need a diverting bit of fun. Its definitely not a detailed historical novel or a knight in shining armor adventure but this one is charming, has silly action, and humor. Rosalyn Landor narrates this book wonderfully. She is always consistently good.

Note: This book does have some sexual situations and adult conversations.

There was one chapter that Audible will need to fix. The audio skips repeatedly......I believe it was in chapter 25. I hope they fix this issue soon because it is distracting.

If you are in need of some lighthearted, silly, entertaining fun give this book a try.

I was given this book by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost for my honest and unbiased review.

"Weak story that flops around but the narration is strong"

The main characters are a little wobbly vacillating from interesting to silly. The author gave them both interesting characters ....he a war veteran with one leg who became a duke when his cousin died. The challenges of his wooden lake and unexpected peerage are weakened by his inability to stick to a decision. She is a blue stocking with a rabid interest in archeology that never really gets explored because a series of misunderstandings lead to her supposed kid napping of the duke . The plot does not fulfill its potential but just sort of flops around. There is however a ludicrous baron and an insistent dowager that offer some comic relief

This book was a surprise to me. While Ms Landor's narration was consistently excellent, the plot kept taking me by surprise. There is one event after another that made the story develop in fanciful yet possible ways.

    "Great Historical Romance"

I genuinely enjoyed the story of Fiona and Perceval. Fiona is a strong willed woman who has been shunned by the Ton after just one disasters season. Perceval has just returned from the war as a reluctant Duke after the death of his cousin. I found Perceval to be a. It of a wuss considering he is a Duke but if you just go with the story and just let it unfold you will enjoy it

"A great start to the series"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this audiobook. The narration is great and the regency romance is funny and sweet.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I really loved the scene where Fiona holds up Percival's carriage and is mistaken for a highway man. The next couple of chapters are very funny.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I wanted to listen to this book all in one sitting. It was very entertaining and I would happily listen to it again.

    Any additional comments?

    "Promising Beginning"
    Any additional comments?

The story has interesting and unique elements. The way the H/H meet, the interest in archeology, the 'fake fiancé " story etc. The characters are complex and have interesting background stories. The lead man is handicapped, the details about his physical and emotional struggles add richness and interest. So overall this is a promising beginning to a good series.

I do think some of the writing indicates that the author, Bianca Blythe, is fairly new at this. But I think she has a promising future and I would love to read the next book in the series. Overall good beginning!

Narration-Rosalyn Landor is the master of historical romance! Perfection! She adds a lot to the story, without her the rating would be lower.

    Story: 3.5 stars
Relationship/sex: actually quite cute, interesting and loving characters. Few hot sex scenes.
    Nattation: 5 stars-Masterful
Technical difficulties: chapter 25 of the book skips every few seconds. Audible was notified.
Overall:3.5-4 stars, worth the time, and a promising beginning to an interesting series

    "Great narrator, disappointing story"

The wonderful narration by Rosalyn Landor definitely rated 5* as always, however the content rated only 3*. It had potential; a returning soldier - promoted by default to a dukedom and who has lost a leg in the peninsula wars and an unusual girl; unorthodox, apparently unmarriageable with wild, bright red hair and a passion for archaeology. The premise interested me but I was disappointed as at times the story descended into the farcical and I found it difficult to concentrate. The talented Rosalyn Landor did her best but the unbelievable storyline let it down overall.
