Publisher's summary

He saved Peyton Lockhart’s life when they were kids - but now she’s all grown up and he’s a seasoned FBI agent who comes to her rescue again in the new contemporary romance from number-one New York Times best-selling author Julie Garwood.

Peyton and her sisters have inherited Bishop’s Cove, a small, luxurious oceanfront resort, but it comes with conditions: The girls must run the resort for one year and show a profit - only then will they own it.

A graduate of a prestigious French culinary school, Peyton has just lost her job as a food critic after rightfully accusing her boss of sexual harassment. Out of work and in a bad place personally, to Peyton a year doing something completely different sounds wonderful. Peyton dives into learning the resort business but is quickly derailed by an escalating chain of events that puts her life in danger. She refuses to be intimidated - until she’s nearly killed. Then she calls on her childhood friend and protector, Finn MacBain, now with the FBI, and asks for his help. Finn is more than happy to do a favor for Peyton, but he doesn’t plan on dealing with the beautiful, passionate woman she has become.

There are countless challenges and too many people who want to stop Peyton and her sisters from succeeding. Among them are their contentious cousins and a powerful group of land developers who have been eyeing the coveted beachfront property. And it also becomes apparent that her old boss holds a serious grudge and believes in payback.

While the attraction between Peyton and Finn flames bright enough to distract them both from their dangerous situation, a happily ever after ending seems all but impossible. But the well-trained lawman never loses focus: He saved her life once; now he must do it again.

Better Read

This was an okay listen. I think it would be better read. at times it seemed to drone on a bit and I found myself slipping through a lot of the story building and I'm not sure if it was because of the narrator or the lack of dialogue. This is the first contemporary audio book by this author and I'm not sure I would try another.
I think I enjoyed the book much more.

Another Great Garwood Read!

I've been reading and rereading Julie Garwood books since 1998. These days, I sit in wait for the next publication. Hot Shot was good from the first listen! The story gripping and entertaining. Strong female characters and eqully strong, sensitive male characters. If only we didn't have to wait a year between reads!

What can I say...I'm a true Garwood fan.

Narration not great

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - I like all of Julie Garwood

Would you be willing to try another book from Julie Garwood? Why or why not?

Yes

How could the performance have been better?

The Narrator could have been better. She was supposed to be a chef but could not pornounce the name of the place she had studied in France correctly or the name of a high end cooking store - it just bugged me. Still it didnt effect the store line.

Great story

I enjoyed this storyline and narrator. The romance is good, but liked the thriller aspect of this book more. Payton kinda let Finn walk all over her, dictating what had when, but I liked his character. just wish she hadn't been such a pushover. I love she stood up for women and took a stand against her aggressor. Overall great book.

Good Guys, Bad Guys, a la Garland! (The bad guys get it in the end.)

Perhaps I'm being a little liberal with the five star rating but I was so pleased to have a book that had all of Julie Garland's special touches found in her earlier works, that perhaps this rating was an obvious, blatant attempt at bribery. I laughed at several of the passages where Garland's oh so believable characters were starting to imitate Moe, Curley, and Larry in deeds and in repartee! I was equally incensed at the villains, leeches of the first order, and wished I could hurl some rotten cabbage and tomatoes at them. But after clever deduction and quick actions, our heros came thru and the bad guys were going to get all they deserved, especially the womanizer! A stay in the big house was going to teach him how it felt to be powerless against unwanted physical relations, a true "shoes on the other foot"! I enjoyed this book tremendously, confirming that my favorite author still had that punch!

Lower than normal rating

I love the book and series enough that I've read and listened several times. Narrator's performance is always distracting from story, happens every time so decreased rating.

Not bad

Good book, didn't like the same narrator for all the voices though. Enjoyed it nevertheless.

The reader got in the way of the story

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Amy McFadden?

I found the narrator very off-putting. Her harsh accent and tonations got in the way of the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, due to the narrator.

Any additional comments?

Good story, poor narration.
