Publisher's summary

He saved Peyton Lockhart’s life when they were kids - but now she’s all grown up and he’s a seasoned FBI agent who comes to her rescue again in the new contemporary romance from number-one New York Times best-selling author Julie Garwood.

Peyton and her sisters have inherited Bishop’s Cove, a small, luxurious oceanfront resort, but it comes with conditions: The girls must run the resort for one year and show a profit - only then will they own it.

A graduate of a prestigious French culinary school, Peyton has just lost her job as a food critic after rightfully accusing her boss of sexual harassment. Out of work and in a bad place personally, to Peyton a year doing something completely different sounds wonderful. Peyton dives into learning the resort business but is quickly derailed by an escalating chain of events that puts her life in danger. She refuses to be intimidated - until she’s nearly killed. Then she calls on her childhood friend and protector, Finn MacBain, now with the FBI, and asks for his help. Finn is more than happy to do a favor for Peyton, but he doesn’t plan on dealing with the beautiful, passionate woman she has become.

There are countless challenges and too many people who want to stop Peyton and her sisters from succeeding. Among them are their contentious cousins and a powerful group of land developers who have been eyeing the coveted beachfront property. And it also becomes apparent that her old boss holds a serious grudge and believes in payback.

While the attraction between Peyton and Finn flames bright enough to distract them both from their dangerous situation, a happily ever after ending seems all but impossible. But the well-trained lawman never loses focus: He saved her life once; now he must do it again.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

I enjoyed this book. The comeuppance for the bad guys was enjoyable. However, the ending was even better. The characters were well developed and likeable, even Debbie. An easy read, some action, some romance, minor sex scenes everything to keep you interested.

Narrator was pretty good.

The reader got in the way of the story

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Amy McFadden?

I found the narrator very off-putting. Her harsh accent and tonations got in the way of the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, due to the narrator.

Any additional comments?

Good story, poor narration.

What a disappointment

What disappointed you about Hotshot?

I have read most of Garwood's books and so many are among my favorite books. Some I have reread more than once. This one is just moronic. Seriously. The lead female character did not report a serious case of harassment, a man attempting to run her off the road and who fired a gun multiple times at her car, etc. Her HR department tells her she can't file a harassment complaint until she works at the company for 3 months. Really. Would anyone above the age of 20 be that dumb? DUH. She had a tape recording of the harassment and apparently didn't think that was evidence enough. She fled the state and returned to her home in Texas. Still, she didn't report any of the above. Her reason was she couldn't afford a lawyer. So stupid that it hurts to listen to it.

How could the performance have been better?

The reader was just awful. I don't know how to describe it.

Good story. Bad Performer

I finally finished the book but it was difficult to get past McFadden's Valley Girl voice. She sounded about 12 years old and she butchered the Minnesota accent with shades of Valley Girl. Book was another good Garwood story but get a new performer!

Good Story, grating voice

This was generally a basic interesting story, that kept our attention while driving. The voice of the reader was horrible. It grated on us and while we didn't stop listening, they need to find someone with a more pleasant voice to read the books.

Interesting and Enjoyable

I enjoyed this story by J. Garwood. I have enjoyed many of her stories. This book was long and interesting. The story is woven well, timed well. Not as fast as many ChickLit books but this is a book you can savor. The sex is sexy not repulsive. It is a well written love story with danger, mystery, etc. involved. Amy McFadden brought her professional narration and I thoroughly enjoyed it. She made the story better.

Narration not great

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - I like all of Julie Garwood

Would you be willing to try another book from Julie Garwood? Why or why not?

Yes

How could the performance have been better?

The Narrator could have been better. She was supposed to be a chef but could not pornounce the name of the place she had studied in France correctly or the name of a high end cooking store - it just bugged me. Still it didnt effect the store line.

Another Great Garwood Read!

I've been reading and rereading Julie Garwood books since 1998. These days, I sit in wait for the next publication. Hot Shot was good from the first listen! The story gripping and entertaining. Strong female characters and eqully strong, sensitive male characters. If only we didn't have to wait a year between reads!

What can I say...I'm a true Garwood fan.

Hotshot! A Finn-tastic entry in a Fabulous Series

What did you love best about Hotshot?

Loved the back story of Finn's rescue of Peyton when she was a little girl.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hotshot?

The opening scenes were the most memorable. They pulled you in and made you care about the characters right from the very beginning.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where Peyton recorded and nailed her nemesis ~ with his permission.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud a lot. Finn and his family were very funny. I related to them both from the parent, and from the children's points of view. Peyton's sisters were also funny.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. This is the best (so far) in a really good series. Kudos to the author and reader!
