Great start to a new Highland Clan

Sexy Highland warrior Cormac rescues his 'soul mate' who had rescued him 10 years ago when she was but a bonny wee girl of 9. Elspeth has loved and dreamed of the boy she saved all those years ago then, unbelievably, there he is rescuing her from the clutches of a demented Laird who has kidnapped her and is determined to marry her.

Cormac and Elpeth flee to the Royal Court but on the way Elspeth must convince him to break a vow to another beauty by any means she can - including sex.

Lovely story, yes a little unbelievable, but my fellow romance listeners - that's why we love them so much!!

Love Highland Stories-Cormac Met His Match

I bought this book because it was a Highland story. I liked it although the back and forth in Cormac's head got a bit tiresome. I wanted to bop him to get his attention but he found his way. It was a good read and I liked Angela Dawe's performance. If you like Scots and their ways, you'll enjoy this book. It doesn't have the historical relevance that other Historical Fiction Scottish books have shown but it is still a good read and true romantic novel. I recommend it.

Honour or On Her?

The Murray tales do have a lot of similarities. It's amazing how willing and how quickly the lasses succumb at a time when virtue is such a huge issue. Many of the stories do have similar outlines... Save one, I have read them in order. Of course most of the heroines are built similarly, they are related (except the first 3 wives married to the Murray brothers.

This particular novel had a few subplots under the two main ones. One of these bothers me as it laid questions in the telling, yet the answers are not there. Without a true spoiler, a character's parentage is alluded to, the readers are provided an answer through a description . However, it was left like that. No reason for adding the character, the suggestion of the parentage, or reason for knowing who the parent is. Perhaps it will be brought up in a future story, but there is no allusion to that. It does not seem purposeful, so time will tell? Or not! Regardless, the tales move forward.

CHANCES & RISK

Highland Vow is filled with risk, sacrifice, trust issues, lies, deceit, murder, heartbreak, love, and desire...should I go on? :) I think the most important lesson learned was to pay attention to what is right in front of you, whether good or bad, before it is too late.

The characters were really good! Elspeth was so determined from the beginning, and despite the risk and sacrifice she gave, I respect her most for her bravery and trust she gave to someone she honestly hardly knew. Cormac on the other hand, although he made me angry at his bad choices, I must give him props for his loyalty. I know that sounds bad considering what Elspeth goes through, but I feel it gave him character, defining him, and earning him the respect of many.

Although overall predictable, it did throw me for a loop in many instances making me second-guess myself. Angela Dawe narration was sometimes hard to understand and dull at times, but overall she was pretty good with her accents and voice distinctions.

In the end...Highland Vow was a great historical love story and I would definitely recommend it!

Love the Murray Lasses

If you could sum up Highland Vow in three words, what would they be?

AWESOME!!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Highland Vow?

I loved the one thing that Cormac did to when Elsbeth back.

Which scene was your favorite?

Where do I begin...the story had so many. Mrs. Howell is a wonderful story teller. There are too many wonderful scene.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

YES....Both laugh and cry. I read the book last year. At certain scene I threw the book and would not read it for a day.

Any additional comments?

I CAN NOT wait for the other books to come alive by audio. Angela Dawe was wonderful. waiting patiently for other Hannah Howell books to be read by Angela.
