Publisher's Summary

When Cameron MacAlpin learns the identity of the golden beauty tossed before him as a debt payment, he can't believe his fortune! For cat-eyed Avery Murray is the perfect weapon to use against Payton Murray - Avery's brother - who dishonored Cameron's own sister. Yet his plan to deliver the same insult and avenge his clan is thwarted by spirited Avery herself, who tempts him to forget everything but the passion coursing through his blood. Still, a knight of the Highlands owes his allegiance to his clan before all else - even his heart.

Avery is outraged at her captor's accusations against her brother. Though he makes it no secret that he intends to use her to avenge his sister's lost honor, he adds to her fury by vowing to take her by seduction, rather than force. Worse, she knows deep down that this virile knight stirs her as no other man ever has. Courageously, passionately, she gives him freely what he vows to take - her body and her heart - knowing that she could lose all on the chance of everlasting love.

What the Critics Say

"Hannah Howell's legion of fans will delight in yet another installment of her Highland series. Funny, yet heart-warming and poignant, Highland Knight is just the story for an armchair vacation into days of yore where knights were bold and lassies sassy." (Romantic Times)

    "ANOTHER BRILLIANT MEDIEVAL MYSTERY UNFOLDS"

Firstly, I've somehow listened to the series out of order as I've missed out books 2 and 3 but I can't see it matters so, my point is, this could easily be a stand alone listen.

I'm a real sucker for the handsome, hunky, kilt wearing, claymore wielding, historical Highland warrior who has a quest to fulfil or a wrong to put right - so call me shallow and count me in - and luckily for me this has it all. Unfortunately Highlander Laird Cameron didn't bargain to like the high spirited Avery, his hostage, so much and he soon trust, wants, needs and desires her and they spent many sex filled nights during the journey back to Scotland from France sharing more than just his tent.

There are tense times in the beginning as DeVeaux and his army want Avery back so there's battles, and high jinks as they try to outwit him. The hours are filled with some funny, likeable and charming characters who all get embroiled in this adventurous tale that has passion, friendships, sex, laughs, plot twists, desire and heartbreak as, in the end, Cameron must choose between his duty or his love.

Worth a credit? Yes, and if you can, invest in the whole of the Murray Clan's romantic adventures - I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

"Another great addition to the series."

So far this series has been consistently good. Great story with lots of passion and interesting twists. Great narration by Ms. Angela Dawe. This series should be read in order but it can easily also be read as a stand alone. Worth a credit!

    "Highland Knight"

I read this book first and it got me interested enough to go back and read the previous 4 books. Angela Dawe does a great job narrating this series. I enjoyed these books enough so that in the end I will probably read them all.

    "The Best"
Would you consider the audio edition of Highland Knight to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the book. I really enjoyed the audio version.

What about Angela Dawe’s performance did you like?

I really like Angela Dawe's performance. She does an awesome job with the Scots accents. I have listened to other stories that she performs, always does a great job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I really enjoyed the times in the book when the two cousins got into trouble. Very funny.

Wife to sometimes neglected husband (due to listening to audiobooks) and mother to adult children. I am a relatively recent avid reader/listener, only really starting to read for pleasure a few years ago but now am thoroughly addicted.

    "Disappointing for an Outlander fan"

As an Outlander fan, i was looking for something to supplement Diana Gabaldon's books, most of which i've read. In the process of listening to Highland Knight i learned why Diana doesn't consider herself a writer of "romance novels." Highland Knight had 4.5 stars and the story line sounded interesting, so as a curiosity i downloaded this book. First of all, the author's descriptive ability is really shallow. i still don't know what the people and scenery look like in her book except a few details about the two main characters that she simply repeated. For the most part, you only know what's going on by what people say and do (and occasionally what they think). The story is somewhat believable but the execution of the narrative diminishes it so much that it becomes a chore to get through. The book doesn't even have a beginning—it just drops you into the first scene without any setting or explanation (i thought my Kindle app skipped the first part of the book for no known reason).

However, i did eventually grow to appreciate one of the main characters, Avery, the smart and thoughtful 18-year-old lass who is captured by the "Knight" as part of a debt payment and eventually falls in love with her captor (and he with her, though he's too dim to realize it). I respected the choices Avery made in her complex situation, and also her caring heart. Her 13-year-old cousin, Gillyanne, who is also captured and accompanies her on the slog from France to Scotland, is also her confidant, though Gillyanne's understanding of human nature (and men in particular) is implausibly beyond her years even for today's world, much less for girls or women in the 15th Century. If the author had just made her ten years older, that would have helped. Lastly, the narrator has only a two-sentence intonation, which she repeats throughout the book, every two sentences, making it irritatingly monotonous, with the exception of the voices that she does slightly better (but a far far cry from Davina Porter and other fine narrators of Scottish tales). The book overall turned out to be a thinly veiled excuse for a dozen love scenes between Avery and the Knight that were only slightly interesting, and a resolution that you knew was coming but only held on to make sure it happened!

    ""Clever or Bold, Wretched Brats""
What did you love best about Highland Knight?

Wellll, what's not to like, great dialogue, humor, and a light story of intrigue. This does have a sexy hero with a good lovers imagination and an author who runs with it. Not fifty shades of grey stuff, but a good dose of fun romance.

What other book might you compare Highland Knight to and why?

This is a series, so you have to read the outlines and pick which stories you like, I have about 7 in all for me. I love when humor or children are in the outline, and especially strong get it done women. I don't like the whoa- is- me-weak type of heroines. This story and #6 are a must have as the two lead women are so snarky, you just get a big good feeling when they are in scene together.

Which character – as performed by Angela Dawe – was your favorite?

Ms Dawe is one of my top fave readers. I own over 100 of her reads just to hear her male and children's voices. Her Scot's brogue and interpretation of this author's work is superb.

    Any additional comments?

Note: I do use the new 1.25x speed to match the the author's intent of intrigue

I own, #1, Cormac's story, #5 &6, to be purchased #9,8,7. Note: author does a fine job of making you want to go back and purchase Nigel's and Erics story. The first book is good, but if you only want to try one, then this book is it as it will give you the flavor of the entire series. No, the books are not all the same, but yes, they can have some of the same flavor.
This author is on book 20 so her fans and Ms Dawe are a HIT together. Enjoy a big smile

    "Great story, poor narrator"

Love, intrigue, betrayal and a Highland Laird, great story and well written but I can't get past the narration. It's odd but because Angela Dawe does great voices that are very believable but the in between parts were annoying. It was an odd combination of good and bad. I think if it doesn't bother you, you will be ok.
