Publisher's summary

The emotional and unforgettable new romance from the New York Times best-selling author of the On Dublin Street series.

Alexa Holland's father was her hero - until her shocking discovery that her mother and she weren't his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets. But when she meets a man who's as damaged by her father's mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.

Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa's efforts at redemption, but it's not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.

Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they're on the precipice of danger, he finds he'll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again....

IT BLEW ME AWAY & LEFT ME ON A HERO HIGH

Their's was a love/hate relationship as Alexa and Caine's first meeting was disastrous and it didn't get much better after that as tensions, tempers and a life-altering shared family secret in their pasts, made their relationship very volatile. But there was high sexual tension between them and an explosive chemistry which came across so well with witty banter, moody melodrama and longing looks which took just one passionate kiss to ignite it into a frenzied affair.

But Caine, the handsome self-made billionaire, was a man who had secrets, kept a hard shell around his damaged heart and always professed he's never in it for the long haul. His jackass behaviour reached epic heights with Alexa however she was strong, feisty and caring and she saw beyond it all, understood him, loved him and hoped she might just be the one to uncover the real Caine if only he'd let her in rather than let her go.

Alexa and Caine were two great characters and the brilliantly written intense, emotional passion filled story had me sucked in as there was just the right balance between humor, drama, angst, sex, thrills, twists and heartache. Told from Alexa's POV by a narrator that created a mesmerising non-stop listen that kept me riveted until the very end.

Worth the credit? The characters evolved and the storyline built and built until it's climactic ending as it told of a love story that should never have worked but thankfully it did. So creditworthy..... oh yeah it was much much more than I ever hoped for.

Same old fifty shades based plot :(

The self made millionaire who floats from model to model falls for the normal looking woman who has to fight for him and the unbury the secrets that form his character. I have read quite a few Samantha Young books from the "On Dublin Street" series and I love the witty banter, story and character development, her writing style in general is awesome. So I wanted to see what she would attempt of for an American based drama. As expected quality wise - I was not at all disappointed.

But I am getting a bit sick of this same old plot line where the guy decides never to commit from the start and the girl who has her own insecurity issues must face the added challenge of cracking his 50 shells. Because there are so many books of the same plot, the book moves in a very obvious direction making every scene so very predictable. I did buy the book knowing that this may have happened but I had hoped that Ms. Young, may have added a more interesting curve ball to the plot (even side couples/stories would have been nice).

If you love Samantha Young, go ahead and spend the credit. If you are still swooning for 50 shades the 10th installment because you just can't understand that E L Jame only wrote 3 books, spend the credit. But if you do really want a different plot-line where maybe the guy really chases the girl and the relationship is actually unpredictable, I would pass on this one and pick it up later if it were on sale.

I don't know who even wrote this!

This does not sound like Samantha Young's writing. I could not even finish it. There was no intrigue. Could predict everything that was happening and was overly dramatic. Is it just me or does anyone else cringe when the writing is so corny? People don't converse like this.
Unfortunately, the narrator was not good either. My ears hurt from the whole thing and I had to turn it off. Sorry.

Yummy bad boy... strong heroine...

Any additional comments?

One thing I can say for Samantha Young is that she makes her female characters strong. Which for me is a big PLUS in a book. Having said that I think Alexa Holland was weaker than her past heroines have been but I still liked her. As for Caine Carraway... well he was your Rich, Hot, Bad Boy Boss! Scarred by his past and not willing to let anyone in. Which is the way we like them, right ladies? The story was ok... to some extent similar to many of the books out there now. So you might say then why did you give it 4 stars if you have heard it all before? Well... because even though I have read many books with this particular theme, Samantha Young's particular style of writing still makes it better then most and she is BRILLIANT in who she picks to narrate her books! Angelica Lee was perfect in her narration of this book and I truly believe that adds to the overall enjoyment of the book. If you are new to this author and you enjoy this book you need to read her On Dublin Street Series, it's amazing and once again the narration is fabulous.

WOW

I absolutely LOVED this book, it has sex, intrigue, a hot and yummy leading man and a beautiful sharp whited leading lady. I cried I think for a good two hours towards the end of the book. I will listen to this again and again!

Disappointed by story and narrator

If you’ve listened to books by Samantha Young before, how does this one compare?

I bought this because I loved Samantha Young's writing style on the Dublin Street series. She has a way with realistic, witty dialogue and with fleshing out interesting characters. 'Hero' reads nothing like that. I had to check a few times that this is by Samantha Young. The story is so similar to Harlequin type plots without any of the touches I loved in the her other series. I don't know what happened, but this one's very disappointing. Maybe if I had not gone in with the high expectations of another great hit like the Dublin Street series, I would not have been disappointed.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

She didn't differentiate the voices enough to give them character. It felt a bit monotone.

Loved everything about this book!

I love Samantha Young. And I love this new book! She tells stories so beautifully, and has created characters that you can't help but love. Alexa is witty, self assured, with just enough issues to make her a believable character. I was concerned this would potentially be like 50 shades (don't get me wrong, I enjoyed those books), but instead it was its own story, full of drama, steamy scenes, and a plot that kept me so hooked that I couldn't stop reading! If you've enjoyed previous work by Samantha Young, you'll love this one too! If you're new to her, take a chance! You won't be disappointed.

Not very good

Like so many of the popular erotic fiction books out now. A lot of the same wording and scenarios. I actually fell asleep listening to this, woke up, and didn't even need to rewind, even though I missed five hours. Just too predictable and cliche.

Not up to Samantha Young's typical standards

Horrible, with flavors of Sylvia Day's Crossfire series. No where near as good as Young's Dublin Street series. Take a pass.

I have listened to this at least 10 times

It's my go to when I can't find anything to listen too. I have listened to almost all of Samantha Young's books; this is one of my favorites. I'm not even sure where to fan girl first... Angelica Lee, the narrator is fantastic.. So many different characters and voices! The story...the sexual tension is off the charts... When they finally come together it's put everything down, pull the car over to the side of the road, turn off the vacuum and stand in the middle of the room and listen! Alexa & Caine's story starts with a sexual attraction that is so strong but somewhat forbidden, there's family drama, a lovable but kooky neighbor, a little bit of suspense. The story is in Alexa's POV, so as the listener you will certainly know her much better than Caine. However, you learn about him through Alexa and without giving spoilers he will gradually reveal more of himself throughout the story. Stand alone, no cliffhanger! So worth the credit!
