The overly scientific, always respectable, and socially awkward Alexander Banks has just been informed that his name resides on a betrothal agreement right above the name of the worst chit in all of England. With a loophole that allows him to marry another without consequence before the thirtieth anniversary of his birth, Alex has only four weeks to find another woman and make her his wife. Being the logical scientist he is, Alex decides to take his friend's advice and treat his quest for a bride just like a science experiment...
Caroline Sinclair is still trying to scrape her jaw off the floor after hearing her cousin, Lady Olivia's, latest announcement when the object of their conversation, Alex Banks, Olivia's intended, arrives for what Caroline assumes is a bout of drawing room chitchat with his betrothed. But when an experiment is mentioned, Caroline, who cannot resist a science experiment any more than she can deny her lungs air, volunteers to help before she even knows what his latest experiment is!

Probably not. The frustration I felt with the narrator pretty much ruined it.
At first I thought she might be OK...... However as the book went on, she got more and more monotone and by the last half of the book she sounded totally bored.
There are so many audiobooks I would like to get, but find myself very hesitant if I don't know the narrator already. This one has some Amazon reviews but that does not help determine if the narrator is any good. The narrator can make or break the whole story.
I actually paid for this book thinking it would be a funny, somewhat stimulating romance. The narrator is obviously READING the book. There is no attempt made at giving the characters any type of personality. And she seems to be in a contest to see how fast she can finish reading the book!
The story has no character development, the story line has no depth at all. It struck me as a book geared toward eleven year olds.
I try to give a neutral review if I dislike a book because it is not a genre I usually listen to, or I just don't like the narrator. I hate the process of returning books, but this one HAS to go back. Shame on Audible not only for failing to identify this as a juvenile romance, but also for subjecting it's listeners to such an inexperienced narrator. Money is tight in this economy, and I for one cannot afford to wast $14.00 on a book I cannot even listen to for 30 minutes.
This book reads worse than a "B" movie.
When a scientist tries to apply the theoritcal testing process to romance, something is bound to go wrong, right? And if he engages the assistance of his romantic objective in the process under false pretenses, he's an idiot. In the end, he's lucky he's surrounded by family who help him, because her family is on a course of destruction. Very entertaining.
I would try other books but I'd read Rose Gordon for myself.
Yes. The narrator made this book painful to listen to. It was very monotone and sounded like one long run on sentence. There was no feeling and proper pauses. I could only listen to a few chapters before I returned it. I'd rather buy it and read it on my kindle.
yes if they were reading the series
the books are good, they do seem to follow along the same theme and form, not much variation but still not to bad
yes, did not enjoy the way the narrator read the book...made the book rather difficult to listen to, I would not enjoy listening to any more books with her reading it.
I felt like I was listening to "The flight of the Bumblebee", she talked so fast...
"slightly annoying narrator"
The story itself was good and have always enjoyed her historical romances, As a writer I would heartily recommend her
I especially enjoyed how arid Alex showed Caroline that he was sorry by meeting her in the altogether, having fixed her telescope.
The narration however was not so good. It was read rather than narrated i.e. in a continual montone with no variations to pitch of voice and the woman seemed to refuse to take a breath between sentences. A bit of advice - learn from other narrators e.g. Rosalyn Landor etc.
The sequel is 'Her reluctant Groom' the story about Marcus and Emma.
Look forward to more - should narrator improve or be replaced!!
