Publisher's summary

Rising sous-chef Kelly Matlock's sudden collapse at work is a wake-up call. Disillusioned and burned out, she's retreated to her sister Jillian's house in Virgin River to rest and reevaluate. Puttering in Jill's garden and cooking with her heirloom vegetables is wonderful, but Virgin River is a far cry from San Francisco. Kelly's starting to feel a little too unmotivated… until she meets Lief Holbrook. The handsome widower looks more like a lumberjack than a sophisticated screenwriter - a combination Kelly finds irresistible. But less appealing is Lief's rebellious stepdaughter, Courtney. She's the reason they moved from L.A., but Courtney's finding plenty of trouble even in Virgin River. Kelly's never fallen for a guy with such serious baggage, but some things are worth fighting for. Besides, a bratty teenager can't be any worse than a histrionic chef… right?

Before it was adapted into a Netflix show, Virgin River was a series of more than 20 novels by New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr. The audiobooks, all read by Audie Award-winning narrator Thérèse Plummer, are well-loved by a wide audience. The series takes place in Virgin River and revolves around new resident Melinda Monroe, a nurse practitioner and midwife. There's more to this sleepy town than first appearances suggest.

AN ENTIRE SERIES THAT NEVER DISAPOINTS

Point of fact, I am a Robyn Carr fan. I love her work. I am a Virgin River fan and I???ve greatly enjoyed learning all about this town and its extraordinarilly interesting inhabitants.
Being a series lover, I especially enjoy finding one that is populated with vivid characters and a setting that is appealing. Then I just sit back and enjoy each visit. I can highly recommend these books to readers who like an ongoing series that takes the time to allow you to get to know the characters, for they appear again and again, giving us an opportunity to know what their life is now after the happy ending. These are romances, but with a little oomph, drama, and suspense to them. Beauitfully written, expertly crafted each and every book is a keeper adding to the richness of the entire series and then you have the narration of Therese Plummer - simply an unbeatable combination.

Ready for a new series

Robyn Carr is a great writer and Therese Plummber is an excellent narrator and this is a good listen. It is probably me but I'm hoping that Robyn's next book is a little different. I think Virgin River has just run characters and feel the last two books were repeats/nothing new. Basically just the same story different characters with the same ending.

Please, Robyn, stop talking about food!

I truly enjoy Robyn Carr novels. But, if she doesn't stop going into lengthy and graphic detail about vegetables, herbs, and food in general, I'm going to have to take a break. These two novels involving the Matlock sisters spent more time and detail on food than I ever hope to see again! Seriously, please focus more on plot line and character development than cuisine! Other than that, it was another solid addition to the Virgin River series.

Nice story but has audio issues...

This is another good addition to the Virgin River series. I had mixed feelings about this story because the romance was like a background story. This book revolved around the hero's daughter Courtney. Her mother died when she was 11 y/o and she stays living with her stepfather (Lief). She goes between Lief and her sorry-excuse-for-a-biological-father Stu for a while until she starts acting out and Lief decides to make a move to help Courtney and they finally settle in Virgin River.

Kelly Matlock (Jill's sister from Wild Man Creek) is an overworked sous-chef in a San Francisco restaurant owned by older, super-rich chef Lucca Brazzi. Kelly and Lucca get involved in an emotional affair and when Lucca's crazy wife finds out all hell breaks loose. Kelly's nerves are pushed to the limits and her heart is broken so she decides to go and stay a while with her sister in Virgin River.

The story is interesting and believeable as Kelly and Lief try to make their relationship work while dealing with a teenager that tests that relationship to the limit. That girl is really hard to like but by the end when you understand all that she has gone through.. It's hard, my heart broke for that girl.

I always like Robyn Carr's book because they are romance stories with substance. Therese Plummer is the narrator of all the books in this series and as I said many times before she is the best narrator ever. Simply the best! I only gave the performance three stars but it was more based on the issues I had with the audio. For some reason all throughout the book the volume kept going up and down. It's like the narrator's microphone was moving all the time. Nothing too bad as to take away from the story, it was still very enjoyable and interesting. I sure hope this series never end and that the producers keep the same wonderful narrator.

Well Written

This was a very well rounded book. The characters were built properly and followed through till the end. I just wished for a little more with the "falling in love" part. It seemed too rushed. I like the build up to it, where you know the characters are falling for each other and they know it, but nobody has said anything to each other so it fuels the suspense. Otherwise, it was a well written story and more of a family book than a romance novel. The romance part was lacking a bit, but overall, good story. The narrator tried her best to bring the characters to life.

excellent

My first book from this series and most probably not the last one. As a stand alone novel it has everything that is necessary for an entertaining romantic story from beginning to the very end. Well done.
The narration is excellent - if possible, I'd give 6 stars! One of the best.

Love this Virgin River Series.

Loved this true to life family struggle to find new love after a spouse has died, especially hard with a teenager in the mix! Great story of family sticking together through it all.

Awesome but..

Ok so while this is a good book, dealing with a wining spoiled disrespectful lil girl almost got on my nerves. I mean she did it through to the last 30mins of the book. The love story was good tho and a happy ending as usual but GEESH!
