Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.
Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey's tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome, pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He's left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander's daughter. Loyalty won't let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.
With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn't expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.
Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge . . .

Say something about yourself!
This is a good story that would be common But Laura Kaye gave it a different spin. He doesn't want to like her but he does and she doesn't know why he is resisting....her father betray his men making her blood of the enemy. According to them anyway. Her brother gets involved, he is an innocent in all of this. There is kidnapping; torture and some really different twists from what could of been common. Love Finds a Way....I love it.
Strong, steady, and powerful.
Nick was my favorite character, showing a man can be honest about feelings but not seem weak in any way.
Too many to pick one. Lets just say there are many in this book.
Absolutely. I listened to this book all through the night until it ended, and then went back to listen again.
This book was a complete surprise and unforgettable. I am was very pleased with this purchase and would have paid more for it.
It is the first one on my list!!
There are SO many! You can't just pick one!
She should be an actress! She is so sofy with Becca's voice and hard with Nick's voice, she is absolutely amazing!!
Seeing as my Cousin had brought me to this book (unintentionally) I LOVE this book! It has the comical reliefs, sexual pleasures, and who wouldn't LOVE an army veteran that is protective!?
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
This could of been a great listen but the Narrator - Seraphine Valentine - just didn't suit the story. Sadly I couldn't finish the book...
I enjoyed the dialogue and characters. Nicks brother Jeremy is great. Of course the growing, hot intimacy and love between the main characters is the most compelling.
This does follow the basic romance novel formula and had most of the typical story lines of woman meets man, there's some reason they don't get together at first - or some reason that would keep them apart. It has a bit of the possessive "you are mine" type storyline - but this one differs in that the formula is there, but it's much more palatable than most. (I like romance novels, but wish - oh how I wish most weren't an insult to being an intelligent, independent woman who is also a romantic. I tire of reading formula novels. I think most of these authors all attended the same seminar on how to write romance novels.
In Hard As It Gets, I found the characters to be likeable and the romantic situations to be more believable than most. She does a good job of building characters.
Her performance was excellent. She really gave the characters life. I like the way she took her time narrating Becka so you got the feel of her being fresh and honest, but also fun. She was good at changing the pace of the story to suit what was happening.
Well, to be honest, It made me steamy! It's very, very hot and sexual. The dialogue did make me grin sometimes.
I wonder how she will handle the second book in the series. If it will continue the story between Becka and Nick or if she will use this world, but concentrate on a different couple as many romance series do. After all, you only Fall in love once — usually! I hope she continues with Becka and Nick. I liked them. I've started listening to it again.
The story line is great. I fell in love with all the characters. A little suspense, a little laughter, a couple hot scenes, and one heck of a cliff hanger.
I am an avid reader. I read during my commute to and from work each day, on the plane when I travel and instead of watching TV.
The only detracter for this book is that the narrator reads a little too slow for me. I know that I have the option to speed up the narration, but I don't like how that then compresses the sound. Still, I enjoyed this book. The heroine was a little soft for my taste, but she had that backbone of steel that kept her going when she needed to. This book made tattooing sound so sensual! Not that I'd go get one because I know it really hurts, but if any of these tattooers want to draw a pattern on my body, they certainly can! The full mystery hasn't been resolved and I'm looking forward to the next book and wondering which hot guy will be the focus. Any of them will do!
Reviewing Romance & Urban Fantasy
Hot romance with the right amount of suspense.
Seraphine Valentine does a good job with the reading and Becca’s voice. But like many female narrators her male voices were just ok. Other than that she did a good job with the over all narration of Hard As It Gets.
I had a little problem with the production of part 2 of the audio. There was some choppy parts where it sounded like they may have went back and re-record a few scenes and they didn’t edit the recordings together well. It sounds like a few words were cut. It was a stop and start recording that sounded like when your cable or satellite skips when there’s a storm. It bugged me but it didn’t last too long so I stuck with the audio.
What I liked:
I’m enjoying dipping my toe into romancing with military men and suspense. Laura Kaye did a great job with balancing the thrilling elements with the romance. The leading characters were interesting and there was some great secondary characters that I can’t wait to read more of.
What I didn’t like:
Nothing really. Like some series the 1st couple is good but might not be my favorite.
Will I continue this series:
Yes. But I'll be reading book 2.
