Publisher's Summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Jeaniene Frost lives with her husband and their very spoiled dog in Florida. Although not a vampire herself, she confesses to having pale skin, wearing a lot of black, and sleeping in late whenever possible. And while she can't see ghosts, she loves to walk through old cemeteries. Jeaniene also loves poetry and animals but fears children and hates to cook. She is currently at work on the next novel in her best-selling Night Huntress series.

What the Critics Say

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

    "sexy, mysterious and thrilling"

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first time I have read this author. I liked that there was a good mix of thriller theams and romance as an added benifit.

"Best Book Mistake I Ever Made!"

Young, 20-something Cat knows nothing about vampires except that she hates them. A night out equates to stalking and permanently killing the undead. Captured and forced into a partnership with one of her targets (Bones), she is mercilessly trained and tormented so her skills can be honed and used to help Bones collect bounty on his own targets. The story (saga) that emerges from the meeting of these two unlikely allies is hilarious, sweet, sultry and action (in many aspects of the word) -packed.

I had a couple of "maybe's" saved in my wish list and ended up with this one by mistake. After I listened the first day, I thought I wouldn't finish it; two weeks later, I am on book 4! I'm not sure if I would enjoy the writing on a page, but I love listening to the way the reader portrays the characters! It took a while to get used to how young and immature Cat sounds, but stick with it for a while: If you aren't hooked when training begins, it's not the book for you!

    "Can't agree with average ratings..."

I cannot say that I "loved" Halfway to the Grave. I found Kat to be a very immature heroine, and listening to the narrator attempting the "Bones" accent was very grating at times!

But - after reading what the next book is about, I think that I may give #2 a shot and see if the Kat and the series grow up a bit!

    "Its ok"

I thought this would be a little different from the other books of its genre, but its not. I just couldn't get into it.

    "Kind of silly, couldn't finish"

So many wonderful review but this one didn't work for me. I found it to be silly, maybe one day I will go back to it but I really doubt it. I also couldn't take that ridiculous cockney accent anymore. Maybe it's a better read than listen?

    "Terrible narrator"

I really tried to get over the narrator's terrible british accent for Bones, but unfortunately it has to be one of the worst accents I've heard in a while. It was bad to the point where it interfered with any enjoyment I could have had of the story.

    "Juvenile"

I would have liked this book when I was a teenager or maybe in my twenties. I'm almost 50 now and found it very juvenile and comic book like. The author doesn't have a good command of the english language either... one person does not "pile into the car". You need at least a few people to "pile in". The word "pile" assumes more than one person. Things like that bother me.

    "hate the narrators voice"

I'm sorry. I think I'll have to check this out in print. I have tried to listen to the story -- and it sounds like it could be god but I HATE the narrators voice, I just cannot listen to her; she sounds whiny and it make my neck hairs stand up. Sorry, the star is for the voice not the story.

    "I like it"

I like the book/story and the audio recording of it. A lot of people hate the voice of Bones but I think it fits his personality perfectly. i don't like the voice of most other guys... and aside from a few they sound adolescent and screechy.
the story is good... I say smut with, surprisingly, a good plot. I would like to own a hardcopy.
