Publisher's summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Critic reviews

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

A Fun Novel - Not My Favorite Performance

What did you love best about Halfway to the Grave?

An interesting novel. It made for an interesting experience.

What didn’t you like about Tavia Gilbert’s performance?

The over the top accents were grating. Plus, by using the cockney accent for Bones, a lot of the innuendoes were missing.

Funny & Captivating :)

Loved it!
Looking forward to this becoming a movie or TV series, with the right actors/actresses and special effects it would be a major hit :)
If I had a chance I would have read the book none stop, but reality is...we have to work :( I love Bones character, the way his voice is read and written reminds me of Spike out of Buffy, but gorgeous. Kat / Kitten is a fresh person you can easily relate with and the author makes you want to laugh and read on. Kat's romance is heated without being over done. I love the way the story unfolds, I am now on my second book; I'm certain I'll be reading all 6 plus any future book of this series, plus the related series starting with book 1 'First Drop of Crimson'.
Definitely a 5 star plus rating. Thank you Audible for the $4.95 1st book in a series sale, other wise I may have over looked this amazing writer.

Bone's voice such a passion killer!

What did you love best about Halfway to the Grave?

Does exactly what books should, in my opinion. Takes you away to a world of fantasy.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bones, of course!

How could the performance have been better?

Love Bones but oh boy, Tavia Gilbert makes him sound like a deranged wicked witch from some children's story. Had to use all my imagination to picture him as the forceful sex god he is suppose to be. Will definitely be reading the next one and pass on the audio version.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Found it relaxing, enjoyable reading. No deep emotional moments, but then I haven't quite finished yet,

Any additional comments?

Love audio books, but the voice has to suit the character.

At Times, You Need To Revisit The Old

And make it new again! After more than 10 years since I read this series, it was a real treat to come back to it with the audio version. Coupled with getting off of the IAD series with the exceptional narrator Robert Petkoff and amazing storyteller that K. Cole is, I was going through serious withdrawal listening to a lot of duds. Then decided to revisit one of my faves and I came out of my drought!

Having forgotten the majority of the book and plot, I was once again amazed and realized why I went to purchase the series back then. Boom! Excellent plot and narrator and weaves in the story. Absolutely worth a listen! On to the next with book in hand and buds in ears!

Great Book worthy of re-read!

I read this book shortly after it was first released in print and quickly became addicted to Cat/Bones and Company. Twelve years later I decided on spending a credit to revisit the experience. I was not disappointed. I adore Cat and words can't describe my feelings for Bones. When I originally read Halfway To The Grave, I started out with very different feelings towards Crispin (was rooting for Cat to kick and kill his ass - she did one better than that!) This time, I was only mildly annoyed with Bones during that scene, just thinking "You poor sot!" Tavia Gilbert is extremely talented and was absolute fantastic. However, I did make some grumbles with her impression of Bones. In my mind, Bone's voice was likened to Tom Hardy's performance as Bill Sikes, so it was a little mildly off-putting at first to hear her reading Bones. However, since she did have the cockney accent I imagined for him, I was able to get used to it.

Listened to in one day!

This story was amazing! Loved Cat! So many times when a female heroine is described as strong and independent she inevitably ends up breaking down and clinging to the man while sobbing but now Cat! She’s badass from the beginning and only gets better! And Bones..(pauses while fanning myself) all I have to say about bones is gimme one of those for Christmas!! Can’t wait to start the next book.

And now my one and only complaint. What 👏 in👏the 👏 heck was that accent of Bones??! I kept expecting his to break out into Chim chimini from Mary Poppins or start quoting Oliver Twist!! How did the narrator choose THE ONLY British accent that i don’t swoon over??!

Enjoyable story w/ a good narrator!

This was a good series start. I did struggle a bit with Cat having such an impetuous attitude. Seeing as though she had a rough time growing up & she's been killing vampires, you'd think she'd have solid common sense. It feels like she could of kept her innocent outlook without sounding so childish in her intelligence. Those childish moments definitely made me cringe; but it was still an enjoyable story.

LOVED THIS BOOK!!

Just like many of the other reviews, I LOVED this book. I love any and every kind erotic/romance books and this book was that and so much more!! It’s thrilling, suspenseful, and keeps you on the edge of your feet wondering what happens next. I also laughed my ass off a few times of her possessiveness over him! Haha! The only thing that took me a minute to.... like... and get use to. Was the female reader’s English accent for “Bones”. Of course would’ve preferred a male voice for the male character but it was the accent & it being her voice that just.. took me awhile to get into. At first it drove me insane and I almost stopped listening to it but I eventually got use to it! Literally my own thumbs down of the entire book. Also, Not dissing the female reader at ALL! She’s amazing!! Just saying.

No spoilers

Wow just wow this is the first book for me by MS Frost and I have to say I loved it and can't. Wait to read/listen to more. This book was full of suspense, romance and laughs. And a really good start to a great series. The narrator MS Gilbert was by far the best i have ever listen to she brought this book to life unbelievably well every voice she did for perfect. She also put so much emotion into it where there should be. I can't say enough about author and narrator both were so so good highly recommend and will listen/read anything done by both.
