Publisher's summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Critic reviews

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

Voice of 2nd character was comical not serious

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, unless they were young and liked posh English accents, ie main hero couldn't pronounce most of his 't's and 'th', sounded like a girl, not a sexy manly vampire.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes

Do you think Halfway to the Grave needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes but with different hero voice

Good Book

I was surprised to read all the negative reviews for this book. I liked it. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Cat and Bones. I wanted more of it. The book has a little of everything...action, romance, sex, violence, building sexual tension....to me, all ingredients for a good book.

The narration was good. Cat's voice was perfect. Bones' voice..well, at first, I almost stopped listening because it seemed off and overly harsh but I keep listening. His voice softened as the book moves forward, either that or I just got use to it, maybe both because now I think this voice is perfect for Bones. The one voice that drove me nuts was her Mom's voice, like nails on a chalkboard.

I decided to take a chance on Cat and Bones and I am glad I did. I liked this book and I look forward to the next book in the Night Huntress series.

It is impossible to not fall in love with this .

I feel in love with the charatcters in this book. It would be impossible not to. The story line kept me on the edge of my seat. Tavia Gilbert does an amazing job acting this book out. It is hard to believe she was the only one reading. She was a joy to listen to. Loved it!!!

This is a fantastic listen! Oh you just gotta!!!

I love this book! There is action there is romance (hot romance!) there is drama there is humor and the characters...the personalities...and the list just goes on!!! And the narrator...AWESOME! Gilbert really brings all the characters to life!!! I must confess...I have listened to them all (and started on the spin off series of each individual character) but I am listening to them again...and will listen to them again I am sure!!!

How can you not just love Bones!

Would you listen to Halfway to the Grave again? Why?

The story and the well developed, rich characters kept me riveted! I will definitely give this one another listen!

Who was your favorite character and why?

At first I wasn't sure about this old British vampire with his Cockney accent. But it wasn't long before I was hooked. Tavia Gilbert's portrayal of Bones really brought the dead man to life. This is the stuff fantasies are made of.

What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?

The shear range of characters she convincingly created was amazing! Each was so distinct, and so vibrant. Brava!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I have a long commute, so I use audio books to fill the time. I really had to force myself to turn this one off when I got home each day.

Any additional comments?

That missing star on my overall review is aimed at the author, Jeaniene Frost. Although this is a masterful tale, the Cat character's immaturity bugged me at times. She was plausibly immature, but it still bugged me.

Great Introduction Novel!

Warning, this book is not for the faint of heart when it comes to “adult language and situations” but then again it was not meant to be. It has a small taste of teenage vampire fantasy but it is all grown-up, in a good way. The sexual tension between the main characters tends to leave you wanting more, just like it should and the trill of the hunt in the action is good as well. Tavia is still feeling the character out in this 1st book, but she quickly becomes one with her and brings her to vivid life. All in all, if you love good suspenseful action and a strong and sexy kickass heroine, well it’s a GREAT start to an even better series.

I love Cat and Bones!

If you could sum up Halfway to the Grave in three words, what would they be?

Wonderful fiction series.

What other book might you compare Halfway to the Grave to and why?

Perhaps the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer's crossed with the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not. I did enjoy her narration and would read other books read by Tavia.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were many points in the book where I was moved. I don 't feel that I can choose just one.

Any additional comments?

I think Jeannine Frost has done an excellent job with book. I have already purchased all of the remaining books in this series to listen to.

Hard to get over the narrator

Would you recommend Halfway to the Grave to your friends? Why or why not?

Book not the audio

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Didn't like the way it was read or how she did the accents.

Any additional comments?

It was hard for me to listen since I didn't click with the narrator. Amazing what a difference that makes.
