Publisher's summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Critic reviews

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

Surprizingly Excellent!

I was a bit cautious, as I'm a Sookie fan, and I do like Twilight, so I thought I'd take a chance and I'm happy I did. I like the story, the narrator and the pace. Kat is a great character. I'm looking forward to downloading the next book!

Cosy & Sexy

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, Bone's voice was very disapointing and annoying. The voice is was what makes the women listener draw or avoid the audibook. Have to be masculin and authorative like the personality projected.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Halfway to the Grave?

The last part, where Cat was pertending to be normal and saying good bye to Bone.

Do you think Halfway to the Grave needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes it should have the follow up.

Any additional comments?

Yes - Cat is very childish and annoying sometime. She needs to grow up now.

Cat ... Bones's accent could have been done a little differently but on the whole I think Tavia Gilbert is a fantastic narrator.

Yes when Cat decides to keep Bones safe and leaves ...True Love...

Any additional comments?

I wasn't sure about this series when I first started listening but it does draw you in and now I'm up to book 4 and loving it. I have many favourite authors - JR Ward,Christine Feehan, Lori Foster, Lora Leigh,Sherrilyn Kenyon,Lara Adrian Gena Showalter and Kresley Cole. Loved this Audiobook

If you could sum up Halfway to the Grave in three words, what would they be?

Exciting, intriguing, electric

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

Bones - the reader did a very good job of performing these characters

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I didn't want to be disturbed or have to pause it for anything.

Any additional comments?

This was well performed, well written, good strong characters and a realistic ending instead of the "happily ever after" we get all too often with tidy, unrealistic end results.

Excellent paranormal romance

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to continue the series. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that it really took me a long time to get used the to narrator's voice for the leading man. So much so that I considered not continuing with the story. But about a few hours into it I was able to get accustomed to it and the story line had me hooked so I had to continue regardless. I really enjoyed the author's take on the do's and don'ts of vampires. I highly recommned this book.

Interesting Start

It was quite enjoyable. Cat is quite the character and I loved Bones, accent and all. Tavia does an amazing job. I was a little disappointed in how it ended, Cat's logic seems a bit flawed, but overall it was a good book.

Great story, strong female heroine

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The story was good and I liked the strong female heroine. It was a little cheesy in some places but overall pretty good.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cat because she's strong and not overly girly.

Did Tavia Gilbert do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

All the characters were well done except for the lead male Bones. She differentiates all the characters really well and even does a good job with the male voices with the exception of Bones. I thought he sounded like an elderly British Lady. The voice would have been better suited for an aunt or grandmother so it kind of ruined the mood and made it hard to get into.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I would like to see a more masculine voice for the lead male. I know the narrator can do it as she did for the supporting cast. It's the same for the second book and I'm assuming the rest of the series.
