Publisher's summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Critic reviews

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

Equivalent

I equal parts adored the storyline and the narrator while loathing the heroine and wishing she'd just pull herself together! So frustrating and enjoyable.
The accents were top notch and the delivery has me looking for the next installment.
Brilliant book about prejudices and acceptance with gorgeous love scenes.
Well worth the few eye rolls

Definitely Worth Listening

I was looking for something that would be as good as the Twilight series when I found the Night Huntress. Excellent book. Draws you in with Bones and keeps getting better, through book one, two and three. Cat is an awesome main character!

Tavia Gilbert . .. excellent intro to . . .

Tavia Gilbert cement her place in my heart with her portrayal of Bones and Cat . . . the night huntress world has a deep connection with me though audio.

Bones, Bones, Bones. . . I want more of Bones.

Cat is one feisty little thing. She has skills and a secret. She is more than meets the eye and Bones is more than he is letting on to be. He is willing to show her more than she could have dreamed of and be more than she could have wanted.

Frost has set my mind ablaze with a new series that excites me and tempts me to the forbidden.

2017 - one of my top couples for always . . . love Bones & Cat . . . they started off a bit rocky but that Bones set her right with time and clarity. He became her everything.

This is the best series!!

I love the characters in this series and the narrator is awesome! I wish she could narrate all of the books I read. The story lines are very interesting and different from other vampire books I have read before. The passion between Bones and Cat is great and it keeps you wanting to listen to more and more. Be sure to read the series in order, meaning that the two stand alone Night Huntress Universe books come between book 4 and book 5. I was almost 2 hours into book 5 before I realized that there were big story lines I knew nothing about. I highly recommend this series!!

Good vampire story. Great reader

The book was better than most of the YA vampire stuff I read. I found Cat a little annoying and the accent of Bones harsh, but overall a good book.

PEOPLE AND/OR THINGS ARE NOT ALWAYS WHAT THEY SEEM

What made the experience of listening to Halfway to the Grave the most enjoyable?

I love audio books that have both a great storyline and an excellent reader who knows how to make the characters come alive. At first, I wasn't sure I like Ms. Gilbert's take on Bones' voice, but grew to love it before halfway through the book. I've become quite "hooked" on paranormal books, especially those with lots of fighting between good and evil, with good prevailing most/some of the time and plenty of romance. This book delivered in all areas! The "ultimate" fight scene in this book came to life all around me, and I found myself crying towards the end, when Kat had to make some hard decisions.

What did you like best about this story?

How Bones helped Kat grow to accept herself for who she is and to help her learn that everything/everyone is not always what they seem. I think we can all relate to this concept regardless of whether you are human or other!

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

Tough call on this one...because I loved both of the primary characters!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This is my problem with most audio books. Many times I have to make myself STOP listening to my books and engage in some dialogue with my husband (thank goodness we've been married a long time and he's very understanding of my love of books).

Any additional comments?

I'm very glad that I took a chance on this book. I liked it enough to use another credit for the next one. But, I would have paid for the next book even if I didn't have a credit to use.

Great Book!

One of the best series, I've ever heard! I have since started to read the books and am even getting around to reading shorts that Jeaniene has written.
For those who get a kick out of English Accents, this book has two great accents.
Tavia's Bones (Crispin) is just great! I got a kick out of Spade's (Charles) accent too. For those who didn't get the accents - I'm fron London, England and I found Bones' accent authentic. The changes of accent were really good.
Jeaniene Frost is a fantastic writer, but I have found other authors that i have loved and the narration has ruined the book for me.
Please don't change this narrator - she does an excellent job.
Jeaniene can't wait for the next book!

What was that ending!!??

Really good book but the ending sucked. Not badly written just sad. Narrator was good but did not like the voice she chose for the main male character, Bones. Sounded too asexual for my taste given the romantic story line. I liked how she portrayed other male and female characters though.
