Publisher's summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Critic reviews

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

Slow start, fast ending

Beginning was drawn out and boring, but I kept listening to give it a chance. FINALLY the story truly started! It was worth the wait. Great characters. Have bought Book 2 to keep up with Cat and Bones!

Addictive Series!

Bought this on first of series sale, first time even listening to this author and I was hooked. Promptly purchased each book in this series and started on "World" books as well. (Which I never do 'cause I'm usually a cheapskate!)I couldn't wait to hear more of these characters, their interations, and deepening relationships. This is a genre I enjoy but haven't been this excited about an author/series since Sherrilyn Kenyon's dark hunters!

Absolutely Addictive series!

This is the very first time I have checked for other books narrated by Tavia Gilbert. She is truly an amazingly gifted woman. Rarely can you find narrators that do not make you a little crazed with their inability to handle the opposite sex well. She on the other hand does that beautifully and every other person with various dialects. The characters are seamless and engrossing.

This series through to This Side of The Grave is one of those that you get lost in! Looking forward to August for the next in the series.

Exceeded expectations

Loved the book. originally put off a bit when some reviewers said it was a bit teenager-ish, and while it was, it wasn't too much so. Very glad I took a chance. Now I've found a new series to read. Also included a different but intriguing origin story for vampires which always appeals to me.

Great start in a new series

This has a well written storyline about a girl,Cat, (short for Catherine) who is half human and half vampire. Her mom had been traumatically raped by a vampire when she was young and conceived Cat. Her mom hated vampires and encouraged Cat to kill them. Cat ran into one vampire that changed her life. This storyline is action filled, keeps you in suspense with well developed characters. There is mystery humor and romance all while different paranormals run around. Narration is also very enjoyable.

Great story

I really enjoyed the story, it’s a new vampire telling and the characters were great. Bones and Cat were great together, the narrator could have done a much better job with his accent, his description and voice were way off. Sounded like dick van dyke in Mary poppins. At the end I was left with lots of feels, one being, Cat’s Mom is a PITA and sometimes when you love someone you have to make really HARD decisions.

Pleasantly surprised

Any additional comments?

So, I have to admit that I picked this one up because the picture of Cat on the cover reminded me of my favorite character on True Blood (Jessica Hamby). I love red heads and vampires are sexy... so a hot red headed vampire.. drool.

I know, I know.. not exactly the best way to pick a book, but in this case it paid off.

Cat is believable and real as she shifts from awkward self-consciousness to kicking ass and back again. Her snark had me cracking up throughout the book.

Bones (who I think is very similar to Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is charming, strong and witty.

The story-line is a fantastic mix of supernatural action, suspense, romance and sex that keeps you interested from cover to cover.

I'm definitely going to give the rest of the series a listen.
