Publisher's summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Critic reviews

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

I loved the story!

What a fantastic audiobook for me to listen to whilst I was driving for 3.5 hours. It made my drive very enjoyable! I'm hoooked! I look forward to listening to the rest of the series. However, Bones accent is quite off-putting but not enough for me to stop listening to it.

Loved It!

I loved this audiobook. I was worried when I read some of the reviews about the narrator but I have lots of unused credits so I thought I'd give it a try and I am so glad I did! I liked the narrator ok. I have heard much worse. The book was great. This is now one of my favorite books. I am so ready for the second book but I don't think it will be out on audio until November! UGH! UGH! UGH! Can't that be hurried up! I can't wait that long!

Very Goood!!

I loved this book. The character are fun and dynamic. The only thing is the narrators portrayal of Bones, but that you can get past.

first time love

this was my first audio book... when I pressed play and sat in my living room listening I kinda felt like I was in kindergarten again and needed the teacher to read to me. As the story progressed and I got into the characters I was hooked. I have listened to this book countless times now on my i-pod. I listen while I'm walking to work or working out at the gym. While watching my kids pay at the park and waiting for them to get dome with what ever lesson they r at (dance, singing, piano, ext) I definitely recommend the whole series!

Wonderfully Entertaining!

If you want a good listen, try this one. Jeaniene Frost offers an intelligent new spin on the usual vampire story and Tavia Gilbert does a great job narrating. I enjoyed the first book so much I just bought books II and III which is saying a lot about how much I enjoyed the first book in the series and wanted the fun to continue.

Enjoyable

This book kept me on my toes and the characters are wonderful, but it wouldn't be the same without the wonderful reader you have found for us all.

Can't agree with average ratings...

I cannot say that I "loved" Halfway to the Grave. I found Kat to be a very immature heroine, and listening to the narrator attempting the "Bones" accent was very grating at times!

But - after reading what the next book is about, I think that I may give #2 a shot and see if the Kat and the series grow up a bit!

BONES!

Thoroughly enjoyable! Action, humor, romance and great characters. Bones was awesome. A fully developed character, not just arm candy. I loved that he had a cockney accent. Cat was very like-able, a refreshing change from the either over angsty or trying-way-to-hard-to-be-funny female leads found in so many novels of this genre. It was also soooo nice not to have nearly ubiquitous you're-not-telling-me-what-to-do-you-arrogant-man scene. Jeaniene Frost was clever enough to convey Bone's and Cat's feelings for each other in a dangerous situation without relying on that tired "plot device." Audible, please record the rest of this series!

Accent was unbearable, story just OK

I chose this from the reviews that said they loved this series. I tend to like the paranormal/romance genre, but this one didn't do anything for me. It may be mostly due to the narration.

The English accent used for "Bones" the vampire was unbearable. I almost couldn't finish the book. Tavia Gilbert's voice for him sounded more like a middle aged fish wife than a sexy vampire. This character has been ruined for me. Be sure to listen to the sample to see if you can tolerate it. Aside from that character, the narration was fine. I suppose it is difficult for an American woman to do male cockney accent, but this just didn't work.
