Publisher's summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Critic reviews

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

Love, Laugh, and Cry And Just WOW

Where does Halfway to the Grave rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

This series ranks in the top 10 of the audiobooks I have read so far.

Any additional comments?

One of the best Romance / Sci-Fi & fantasy Series. Lots of action and a little sex. I did not like the ending of the first book. So You need to read book 2 wright away.

Color me surprised!

I read the first two or three? books of the series more than a year ago, now I'm trying the whole series (so far) with the audiobooks.

At first I was surprised (not pleasantly ) with the approach that Tavia Gilbert (the narrator) took to Bones voice and personality. I had a totally different idea and mental image about it (him). So it was like reading a whole new book!

Miss Gilbert gave Bones a cockney accent! And believe me, that's not sexy at all...I mean, I now guys to happen to be British and have a cockney accent, and they are good looking (check!) and they have very good taste in their clothing (check!)....and the accent does NOT help at all! At the contrary, it kind of ruins the whole image.

Well all that said and out of the way let me tell you, this new (to me) persona charms you in a whole different way but still, you learn to love this Bones in spite the awful inconsistent and all over the place cockney accent.

Do not mistake me, I think Miss Gilbert job was great anyway. LOL!

Cat was/is a fresh breath of air as heroines go. I do like her.

These books are a guilty pleasure for me.

Shear enjoyment

The audio version of this book is fantastic. The narrator does some really fun voices with great accents. Simply loved the humor, sass, and hotness of this paranormal jaunt. It looks like there are three additional books (at present) in the series. I look forward to experiencing each of them in the future. I can see re-listening to this book again for the shear enjoyment of it.

Who is Jeaniene Frost?

Frist i have to thank Charlaine Harris i had no idea who Jeaniene Frost was into i picked up Death's Excellent Vacation i got to her story and was pretty much blown away I had to find who she was and what this night huntress series was about i needed more Bones and Cat!! I am a person who hates spoilers so after reading the story i knew alot had been spoiled but as i started Hafway to the Grave i realized it didnt even mater and I forgot what i knew would happen and found i could still enjoy the book Jeaniene writes in a way that feels real even though these are vampires and dampires they are still real people Cat is just like any other girl in her 20's that had a family that was a bit screwy yet still loving and she has alot of hate inside her that she need to deal with but she's strong and funny she is a true hero always wanting to do whats right but i love that she never says the right thing makes her more realistic there is also alot of action which im crazy about also alot of steamyness is in the book without becoming something that i'd find more funny then sexy so Jeaniene Frost is funny smart creative and just badass in my opinion

Absolutely Delightful!

Where does Halfway to the Grave rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the very top with a handful of others.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bones

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

Also Bones, but she was spectacular overall

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh yes, sadly, I have to work, but I had a very hard time pulling myself free from this one.

Any additional comments?

I absolutely loved the story, the narrator is spectacular and I wish the stories were longer.

Great Series!

Would you consider the audio edition of Halfway to the Grave to be better than the print version?

I like to read the story first then hear it. The narration was great, Cat's voice is perfect. Would like Bones' to be a bit more manly, but it still works and does not take away from story.

Not your typical "green-eyed" monster!

What made the experience of listening to Halfway to the Grave the most enjoyable?

The narrator was perfect.

What did you like best about this story?

The character development was so satisfying. The plot also twisted just enough to keep from being predicable. If you like the vampire genre this just may be the listen for you.

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was the first book I have listened to with Tavia Gilbert as the narrator so I cannot give a fair comparison with her other works.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A whole new slant on “hiding the family silver“.

Finally!!!

Would you listen to Halfway to the Grave again? Why?

Finally! A vampire book where the vampires own their vampirism and are not whining about the fact that they aren't human anymore! This is the book I have been looking for!

The male leads voice was kinda annoying.

The story had its moments. The female lead was aggressive and the romance was a little cheesy at times but i was curious how things would turn out. i plan to listen to the next book to see how things work out. i did think the author did well in hooking ppl into the second book cuz now i am sitting here thinking what is going to come of this romance. i just dont think this is the greatest book i have ever read. i hope the writing becomes a little more sophisticated as the series goes on.

Prepare to read the second book now

The story is a usual paranormal romance, but it is both entertaining and engaging the whole way through. You'll want to immediately start the second book upon finishing the first. The narration and pacing are also well done.
