Publisher's summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Critic reviews

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

Took a while to get into it but now I am.

What did you love best about Halfway to the Grave?

Not sure if it is the main character or the voice actor, but something about the combo really appeals to me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Halfway to the Grave?

Sex scenes are really enjoyable without being lurid.

What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?

She fitted my construct of the primary character really well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Leaving Bones

Any additional comments?

Give the book a little time, the second book keeps up the pace.

Not my cup of tea, but not bad

Any additional comments?

The book was a little too romance-heavy for my tastes and the whole vampire idolization trend is not for me either. That being said it was a good buy as a light listen when it was on sale. But due to the engaging writing and wonderful narration, I'm mildly interested in the future of the characters.

I also really enjoyed Tavia Gilbert's performance as the reader. This is about the 10th book I've listened to and it is also the first one with a woman doing the reading. It took me a few minutes to get used to listening to her, but once I did I enjoyed her performance very much. I checked out what other books she has read and was amazed by the large number and breadth of subject of books she has narrated.

I may pick up the second book in the series sometime if it is on sale. I would probably give the story 3.5 stars if there were half stars available.

Fabulous Series

I am thrilled with Jeaniene Frost's books and I cant seem to get enough of them.. The narrater Tavia Gilbert does a fabulous job of making you feel like you are sitting and watching a movie not listening to a book. I highly recommend the Night Huntress World and The Night Huntress Series. Just love them. A very satisfied listener.. :)

Night huntress series is addictive!

Would you consider the audio edition of Halfway to the Grave to be better than the print version?

I like the audible versions because it is easy to picture the characters in your mind.

What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings the characters to life. Wasn't fond of the voice of bones, but by book 6 I fell in love with Bones.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud and cheered the Red Reeper, Bones, and the other vamps on to defeat the enemies.

Any additional comments?

Look forward to additionl books with all the characters from the Night Huntress series.

it was wordy but good

Cat was very immature and naive. I wanted to slap her often. Bones was fantastic and loved him through and through.

Love it!

I'm a huge fan of Jeaneine Frost and I love Cat and Bones! This narrator brought this story to life for me! I'll be getting the whole series to match my Kindle books and the regular books I've already got!

Probably fourth time I've read it

Don't have a lot of time because it's after midnight but for any fans of paranormal romance this is a must read. This kind of book is my guilty pleasure :p there's always some adversity keeping them apart. Romance is authentic I think. Anyways. Would recommend!

Other books are better

Love Cat and Bones! Great characters and I think Bone's voice is perfect. If you read his character, the voice fits him like a glove. All these suave vampires with great melodic voices and then there is Bones. Tough, working class English but completely unique. Really sets him apart from Spade, Ian and Vlad, etc.

I started this book but only listened to parts of it because I knew the ending wasn't going to be happy. Yeah, I know they get back together in Book 2, but... Then I read the rest of the series, then the Night Huntress World series before coming back and finishing this one. Night Huntress and Night Huntress World is a series you need to read in order. The relationships built in the earlier books really set the stage for the later books.

Overall I love this series and have listened to them multiple times. There aren't many I can say that about.
