This is the story of Gus losing himself, finding himself, and healing along the way. "The honest-to-God truth is I don't even know how to function anymore. Bright Side wasn't only my best friend, she was like my other half - the other half of my brain, the other half of my conscience, the other half of my sense of humor, the other half of my creativity, the other half of my heart. How do you go back to doing what you did before when half of you is gone forever?"

This was the perfect book at the perfect moment that I needed to listen to it. We are all have our up and down days, I've had that going on for the last two months and this book was the perfect balm.
Gus. What an amazing guy. I felt his sorrow and despair right through to my bones. His devastation upset me. He is struggling to deal with the loss of his best friend, whom he loved with everything he is. I was pulled into his sorrow with him.
Then Scout came into his life. I love who he became when he was around her. Their relationship grew very slowly into this cute, sweet friendship and eventually into an all consuming beautiful love.
There is so much of Kate in this story in that you can feel/see how much her being in Gus' life has influenced who he is and how he overcomes adversity. How he sees the world now with 'Bright Side' glasses on.
This story was heart warming and beautiful. I cried, laughed and felt overwhelming happiness. This series has left a lasting impact on me as a person.
This is why I love to read.
I read Bright Side when it was first released and my heart was ripped out and torn to shreds. When GUS was released I just wasn't excited. For one I didn't think Gus could complete with Bright Side and second if he did I didn't know if my heart could take it.
I did cry and my heart hurt but in such a good way.
Congratulations to Kim Holden for an outstanding follow up novel. You did Bright Side and Guys such a beautiful justice.
I loved the nararrators and am so glad I didn't read this when it came out and waited for the audible version!
I will definantly buy anything they narrate again!
I love storytelling.
There are truly no words to describe how beautiful this story is. This book will stay in your heart forever. I truly loved every minute of Gus. Life doesn't always go as planned and heartache does exist. Reading the journey of Gus finding peace and love was truly inspirational. This book makes you reflect and appreciate life. Always live life to the fullest. Tomorrow is promised to no one.
The audible narration by Lidia Dornet and Alex Kydd is ONE of the BEST audios I've ever heard. Alex Kydd was all things Gus and brought him to life in my ears.
Forever in my Top Five.
Addicted to any type of Romance/Erotica audio books.
Yep the masses were right, this book helped mend my heart after Bright Side. I'll admit I was a little upset that we were only getting Gus's story and not Keller's but after about an hour into this audio I was so glad it was Gus. I loved the friendship he had with Kate and how it showed the softer side of the rocker bad ass. This story gives us a lot more of his softer side. It was sweet and comforting. I needed to know that everyone was finding their way after book 1. There is no major drama and it was mostly full of happiness.
I think Alex Kydd, the male narrator made this book even better for me. He was EXACTLY what Gus sounded like it my head. He has that lazy, laid back sexy voice and he did an amazing job on all the emotions that Gus dealt with in the book, from the chuckles to the sadness, I could hear the smile in his voice and the sorrow too.
Lived up to my expectation...if not MORE!!
I was hesitant to read GUS because seriously, it doesn't happen often that the sequel is as GREAT as the first, but Kim Holden blew my mind like she did with BRIGHT SIDE!
REDEMPTION! Gus definition was on spot and could undoubtably relate and let's not forget about feisty Mrs. Rudolph and her words of wisdom that sparked Gus into motion!!
Lidia Dornet and Alex Kydd did a FANTASTIC job and believe they dived into their characters personality seamlessly...Perfect fit that also doesn't happen often in my book or audiobook 😉!!!
Dude, this was EPIC!!!! Sometimes it's hard to find a second book in a series that is better than the first, but in this case that's how this one was for me. Great read, and Alex Kydd is up there with Sebastian York for me. Great narration. Sexy and fun. But don't forget the tissues.
Books, to read or listen I enjoy both curled up with one of my favorite book boyfriends has my full attention between the pages in his world
I don't know what I love more, GUS, the book or Audiobook~ LOVE THEM BOTH AND JUST LOVE GUS, PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!! WE ALL NEED A "GUS" IN OUR LIVES !!!!
Author Kim Holden knows how to write a book or two or more.... That will grab you by the heart, knock you down, and then being you back up. If you are looking for more than just words in a book.. Kim Holden can deliver!
I ordered this because I enjoyed Bright Side. This book was a lusty romance novel minus the clever characterization of Bright Side. Mature adults will cringe, teens and twenty somethings will be titillated. Waste of a credit.
EPIC Accomplished! Why are the rest of Kim Holden's books not on Audible? She is an amazing author. She gets to the raw emotion better than most. How is the third book in the series not on Audible? Are they nuts? Guess I'll have to go to the other format to read them. Lydia Dornet is my favorite female narrator. She and Alex Kydd did an excellent job.
I put off reading this book because I loved Brightside so much and it was such an emotional wringer. Sounds stupid but I mourned her death. That's how much Holder makes you fall in love with her. I thought Gus would be tough to read after losing Katie like that, but I was wrong. It was compelling and so well described the grief and path to redemption.
where do I start! This book is EPIC! I laughed and cried and felt every emotion along with the characters. I loved the narrators. Lidia Dornet is amazing. I loved her while listening to Brightside too but Kate and Scouts characters are completely different and I thought she nailed both of them. Off to read Franco now!!!
"Loved the story"
Very emotional story, great pace and well written.
I struggled with the female narrator, I did with Bright Side also. I say this often, if you have sequential books don't re-use the same narrators for different characters it just detracts from the listening experience. Lydia Dorney's style didn't suit me but this is just personal preference.
That said I would recommend this book.
