Publisher's summary

Fleur Savagar is the most beautiful woman in the world . . . to everyone but herself. With her oversized hands and paddle-boat feet, her streaky blond hair and funny green eyes, she lives a life filled with secrets that began before she was born. That was when her bewitching mother left home to find James Dean and met Errol Flynn instead. Now Fleur has to grow up quickly, and life won't make that easy.

Jake Koranda is both New York's most brilliant playwright and Hollywood's hottest actor. Difficult, talented, and tormented, he has no patience for international glamour girls, not even ones with beautiful bodies and smart-aleck mouths. But there's more to the Glitter Baby than shine, and Fleur's tougher than Jake expects. Even with the odds stacked against her, she's fiercely determined to discover the woman she's destined to be. An ugly duckling who can't believe she's turned into a swan . . . A tough-guy movie star with a haunted past . . . In a land of broken dreams, can two unlikely lovers trust their hearts?

One of the best SEP books!

I've read / listened to all of SEP's books that are available and this is one of the best ever. Glad she brought it back after almost 20 years!!

Absolutely loved it!

I always enjoy Susan Elizabeth Phillips' books and this was no exception. The story kept me completely entertained from beginning to end. I waited a long time for this release and was not disappointed. Kate Fleming/Anna Fields was one of my favorite readers, and I miss her, but Julia Gibson was very good and I look forward to listening to her in the future.

This book was darker, but awesome.

This book is not quite like the other SEP books I have heard, but it was a lot more interesting and dark. I enjoyed it, though it dragged at points. I enjoyed the main character quite a bit and was rooting for her to find her way.

Good but not great

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, I would cut most of the scenes with her mom! She is such an unlikable character and a good third of the book is about her which is disappointing because Fleur is a solid woman and I wanted to know more about her and Jake, who could have also been more intricate than he was presented.

not what I expected, but good

I downloaded a Susan Elizabeth Phillips book for a humorous diversion from more serious books I'd been reading, but was surprised to discover something very different from what I expected. This is a serious story, involving two generations of flawed, complicated characters. By the end of the book, the romantic leads evolve into their best selves, finding well-deserved happiness, in spite of the efforts of an evil, intelligent antagonist, who is intent on ruining their lives. Because the most complicated character never recognizes her flaws, she never corrects them. But by the end of the story, we accept her as she is, overlooking some pretty unacceptable traits, while appreciating others. I recommend this book.

Really Enjoyed!

This was one of those books that I was sorry to see end. It started a bit slow and got better and better. I laughed out loud in parts which is not easy to make me do. It was entertaining and I now look forward to reading other books by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Hope they are as entertaining as this one was!

Everything you hope for

SEP cuts no corners. There’s background , character development, detailed bad guys, humor and believability even though there’s the fantasy of wealth and fame. Oh and a well developed love story Great narration.

Really enjoyed this book

I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips and it was great to listen to this older book. The book is a little slow in wrapping up all the story lines, but it was still a very enjoyable listen. The narrator was very good. I am a real fan of Anna Fields and will miss her wonderful narrations of Phillips's novels. I was a little worried that I might be constantly comparing the new narrator to Fields, but that didn't happen. This narrator was quite good and made the story come alive.

Love it.

Susan Elizabeth Phillips books/ audible's are awesome she is a funny writer and will put you right inside that story. You can't go wrong with any of her books, Glitter Baby was right up there. Julia Gibson was good I like her voice, but I will always miss Anna Fields.

One of the best SEPs

This is one of the best SEP books I have read. This is not all flowery like some of the others, but I loved it. I cried and laughed. I thought the ending was a little weird but overall great book.
