Publisher's summary

I was done.

Done with men.

Women say it all the time; they get fed up, throw their hands in the air, and vow a life of celibacy - until the next chiseled chest comes into view and then they're foaming at the mouth and wiping the drool from their chins. But this was different, I really meant it. I'd been manhandled by the last pig that would ever bring his sausage near me. After one of the nastiest divorces in history, followed by some of the crudest and raunchiest dates, I'd decided to bat for the other team.... At least I tried. But creating the next Brat Pack hadn't been on the agenda. Neither had my date's brother, Collier West. And I wasn't prepared for finding true love at the end of my gal-pal tryst.

The nail polish on the cover drew me in!

Both author Stephie Walls and narrator Julia Duvall were new to me, and I was excited to give Girl Crush a listen after seeing the cover and reading the blurb. I'll admit that the second part of the book was more enjoyable to me than the first, although I did enjoy the humor in the first part and laughed out loud several times. I LOVED the OPI nail polish names sprinkled throughout the story- so fun. The voice of the narrator grew on me and as I got to know the character of Giselle I found that voice did fit the character well. The narrator did a good job with the different female characters as well as the male voices too.

Amazing book - Fantastic Audio book!

What made the experience of listening to Girl Crush the most enjoyable?

I loved this book and was beyond excited when I found out that it was coming to audio. Listening to it made me laugh out loud. It's even better in audio!

Who was your favorite character and why?

That's so hard! Giselle. I can relate to her.

Have you listened to any of Julia Duvall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't! She's fantastic!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I was done with men... we've all been there.

Plenty of laughs with a touch of bawdy crassness

First up, this is not a book about a lesbian heroine. Neither is it about waving the flag of feminism. What it’s about is a near-40 year old woman who is incredibly disillusioned with love and relationships. She doesn’t need a man to support her but neither is she naive about her role as the office eye candy.

Her solution for her romantic woes is to turn into a lesbian. Never mind that her BFF, who really is a lesbian, is forever telling her it’s not a switch to be turned on and off, Giselle is forging ahead. Her foray into dating other women I found to be very funny and dotted with more than the odd moment of crassness thrown in. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments for me.

Giselle meets Collier when she arrives for a date with his sister. Collier is utterly confused to find himself attracted to Giselle. She’s the first woman to interest him in some time yet what can come of it?

For me, this book is split into two parts: Giselle dates lesbians and then Giselle and Collier embark on a fairly traditional romance. Both parts work well and I really enjoyed reading about Giselle and Collier as a couple. They really are suited. The standout part however, was Giselle’s same sex dating adventures. They were fun a lot of fun to read.

About the audio: I really enjoyed the audio version of this book. Julia Duvall does a great job of bringing Giselle and all her crazy to life. Her highs, lows, frustrations and successes are brought to life

There are multiple female characters and they each had a distinct voice. The male voices were also well done.

Narrator did a great job!

Ms. Duvall did a wonderful job narrating this book. I already asked the book, but she brought the characters to b life.

Lighthearted, unexpected romantic comedy

Loved this. It was light hearted, laugh out loud funny. I don’t usually laugh easily when it comes to books but this one got me. I really enjoyed it. Stephie is an amazing author and once again - writes another incredible book. Hats off to her.

The performance of the audiobook was stellar. I felt like I was there. Wonderful.

Not for me

I think I am from the wrong generation for this book and too much of a homophobe. The narrator and blurb appealed to me, as I was expecting a very humorous listen. I couldn't connect to the characters in this book even though I'm approximately ten years older. The premise of switching from heterosexual to homosexual on a whim is beyond me. Some of the details in this book appealed to me while other things I found crude. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I would listen to more books by the author and narrator provided the subject/premise agreed with me.

Fun and funny book!

This is such a funny f/f book. I think every woman has the same thoughts at one point when we are tired of dealing with men but watching her dating fails while exploring this new dating world is something you won’t want to miss out on. I thought the story flowed and was easy to listen to. It will make you cringe and laugh out loud. Definitely worth the read!

I wanted to love it...

I wanted to love this, but I didn't. I did like it, however. I couldn't bring myself to like Giselle. There was just something about her that I couldn't jibe with. The story comes off as a lesbian story, but it's not really quite so. After being fed up with men, she makes the decision to switch to women. The premise was fine, but the execution was okay. The narration was a bit robotic for me. I think this was just... okay.

A Super Fun Girly Story

I LOVED THIS STORY!! From start to finish I was completely engaged with the characters and all that was going on in their lives. The only thing that got me was our main character's nickname other than that there isn't a single thing that I would change about this story. It is beautiful, sweet, funny, sexy, story about what to do when your life is shook up unexpectedly.

Light and fun with HUGE entertainment value

I could not believe this was the same author of Fallen Woman and Unexpected Arrivals! I mean, Stephie Walls has seriously gutted me with those two books. This, Girl Crush, was a completely different side to her! It was great!! This was such a fun and uplifting book. I enjoyed the lightness and the humor that made me laugh out loud several times!

So Giselle is a divorced, nearly 40 year old woman, who is now reentering the dating pool again. I don’t even want to imagine that! So after failed date, after failed date, she decides she’s done with men. She’s turning lesbian. She just killed me! Thankfully, she has a gay friend there for her to remind her that you just can’t become gay overnight. Giselle isn’t a quitter though… this all leads to an amazingly, humorous book!

I listened to the Audiobook. I will definitely recommend having a set of ear buds to listen to this beauty! There are a TON of different references to the vagina that you may not want to have the entire world listen to! If you want an audiobook that is light and fun with a HUGE entertainment value, this is it! It’s just downright hilarious and will have you hooting with laughter. This is my first ever book with Julia Duvall narrating. I really enjoyed her. She has such great infliction. She brings so much humor and emotion to her voice.
