I was done.

Done with men.

Women say it all the time; they get fed up, throw their hands in the air, and vow a life of celibacy - until the next chiseled chest comes into view and then they're foaming at the mouth and wiping the drool from their chins. But this was different, I really meant it. I'd been manhandled by the last pig that would ever bring his sausage near me. After one of the nastiest divorces in history, followed by some of the crudest and raunchiest dates, I'd decided to bat for the other team.... At least I tried. But creating the next Brat Pack hadn't been on the agenda. Neither had my date's brother, Collier West. And I wasn't prepared for finding true love at the end of my gal-pal tryst.

First up, this is not a book about a lesbian heroine. Neither is it about waving the flag of feminism. What it’s about is a near-40 year old woman who is incredibly disillusioned with love and relationships. She doesn’t need a man to support her but neither is she naive about her role as the office eye candy.

Her solution for her romantic woes is to turn into a lesbian. Never mind that her BFF, who really is a lesbian, is forever telling her it’s not a switch to be turned on and off, Giselle is forging ahead. Her foray into dating other women I found to be very funny and dotted with more than the odd moment of crassness thrown in. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments for me.

Giselle meets Collier when she arrives for a date with his sister. Collier is utterly confused to find himself attracted to Giselle. She’s the first woman to interest him in some time yet what can come of it?

For me, this book is split into two parts: Giselle dates lesbians and then Giselle and Collier embark on a fairly traditional romance. Both parts work well and I really enjoyed reading about Giselle and Collier as a couple. They really are suited. The standout part however, was Giselle’s same sex dating adventures. They were fun a lot of fun to read.

About the audio: I really enjoyed the audio version of this book. Julia Duvall does a great job of bringing Giselle and all her crazy to life. Her highs, lows, frustrations and successes are brought to life

There are multiple female characters and they each had a distinct voice. The male voices were also well done.

Plenty of laughs with a touch of bawdy crassness

Ms. Duvall did a wonderful job narrating this book. I already asked the book, but she brought the characters to b life.

Narrator did a great job!

Both author Stephie Walls and narrator Julia Duvall were new to me, and I was excited to give Girl Crush a listen after seeing the cover and reading the blurb. I'll admit that the second part of the book was more enjoyable to me than the first, although I did enjoy the humor in the first part and laughed out loud several times. I LOVED the OPI nail polish names sprinkled throughout the story- so fun. The voice of the narrator grew on me and as I got to know the character of Giselle I found that voice did fit the character well. The narrator did a good job with the different female characters as well as the male voices too.

The nail polish on the cover drew me in!

That's so hard! Giselle. I can relate to her.

Have you listened to any of Julia Duvall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't! She's fantastic!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
