Publisher's summary

Heartsick and desperate to leave her sorrows on England's shores, innocent Georgina Anderson seeks passage on the "gentleman's ship", Maiden Anne, disguised as a cabin boy. The captain, however, is no gentleman; he's the ex-pirate and irrepressible rake, James Malory.

The black sheep of a proud, tempestuous family, Malory soon sees through Georgina's masquerade and is enchanted by the courageous, high-spirited lady he has forced into intimate servitude. But though he has sworn he will never be enticed into matrimony, Captain Malory has finally met his match on the high seas - undone by the passionate heart of one remarkable beauty whose love of freedom and adventure rivals his own.

The saga continues: listen to more romatic tales of the Malory family.

My favorite Mallory books

After reading "Love only Once" the 1st book in this series, I could not wait to read "Tender Rebel". I liked Regina in the first book but the character development of Anthony her Uncle made be rush to read the book about him, #2 the Tender Rebel. After reading that book I thought how could it get any better than this; and I was not in Love with Regina's other uncle James, also Anthony's brother. However; I committed to read the entire series and I will, I'm on the 4th book now. I was wrong in my assumptions of "how could it get any better than the story of Toni"? Well needless to say I loved this book, and this was my favorite so far. This love story was much different than most I have read, and it had a lot of humor along with steamy love scenes. I would recommend all 4 books so far.

Great love story.

I loved this book when I read it a few years ago. This is one of my favorite out of Johanna Lindsey's Mallory series.

Ok love story, very poor performance!

I enjoyed the story although no interesting twists were added to this plain and straightforward love story. At the beginning I was very frustrated with the author’s going on and on about the elaborate character backgrounds when a simple explanation would have been sufficient. But as the story went on it got better, except it was hard to get over the voice given to the hero. Not only was it NOT sexy, it was repulsive and old sounding for a man in his 30’s and supposedly good looking. In addition, if anyone has read Eloisa James or Elizabeth Hoyt, it can be obvious to them how this book falls short when comparing the passionate love scenes. Regardless, the book was entertaining enough just not great!

An excellent read!!

This book was absolutely one of Johanna's best and the narrator Laurel did the best characters for each person. I love the Mallory family members, they make me so hopeful that family will always stick together and be there for each other no matter what! The hero and heroine in the book had me cracking up at times with their behavior towards each other and the other family members. It would be good to have a series about the Anderson brothers since they are all eligible and would fit well with some english wenches! What a delight those books would be to read or listen to! Can't wait to read more from this series.

Loved it !

I adore the Mallorys ! And this book did not disappoint me :) although I feel that with another narrator it might have been perfect ! Laural Merlington is Ok but she did not perform James Mallory well . But still this book is lovely :)

fun and entertaining

the story was a bit far fetched and some of the events were ridiculous but looking past that it was really entertaining and there were many instances where I thought the dialog extremely amusing! the only issue I had with the narration was that the main character's voice was too guttural and got on my nerves and the narrator's laugh for the men sounded more like someone making fun of Santa Claus but instead of saying "Ho Ho Ho" she said "haw haw haw"
otherwise - moderate spice, slightly frustrating love story but the characters were great. this was a test to see if I could get into this series and I will definitely read another.

Funny and sexy

I really liked this one by Johanna Lindsey, and I think I'd rank her among my favourite Romance authors.

The performance was great! It must have been hard to find someone who could speak with an American, English as well as a Scottish accent! The accents may not have been perfect, but I personally did not notice if they weren't.

This novel can easily be read without reading the others in the series. I haven't read any other of Lindsey's 'Malory' novels, but was perfectly able to follow this one on its own.

Narrator was not great for this title

Story required American, English and Scottish accents... narrator spoke with American accent through out. Voice for male lead sounded like a grisly old man.

Ugh..... painful!

I’ve read a couple of books in this series and have found them fairly enjoyable - but NOT this one. I think the combination of a terrible narrator and ridiculous characters was too much. I couldn’t finish.

The stupidity of the Heroine, being completely clueless (innocent) about physical attraction (even though she claims to have been around her older brothers) and the hero, deliberately walking around her and standing in front of her naked, hoping to arouse her was too much. The heroine never catching on the very obvious motives behind the hero’s actions - like undressing her and kissing her. She acts like a 10 year old child, not like a 22 year old woman. The fact that the hero takes advantage of her, exploiting her innocence is just plain disturbing.

I also couldn’t stomach the horrible narration of the hero. Honestly, all the other voices were narrated quite well. The hero is narrated in a growling voice making him sound like an old cantankerous man which made me not like him even more.

Bleh..... storyline had great potential. Unfortunately it’s written like a cheap porno.

Very disappointing

Any additional comments?

I've read the Malory books all out of sequence, mostly because Audible started offering them in the latter part of the series and now has gone back to get some of the earlier books. I found the others to be entertaining if a bit predictable. This one though, is just way too predictable and hokey. The premise that this rich girl from America landed in England with no money is going to be the cabin boy for a rich guy going on his last voyage, and of course, the captain knows she is a woman and insists that the "cabin boy" sleep in his quarters, ... Well, it's just too much. She keeps forgetting that she is suppose to be a cabin boy and shoots off her mouth as a spoiled rich girl and then recovers her assumed persona over and over and right from the start. It's like she's not even trying. I couldn't finish this one and will probably return it. Try the later books in the series if you want a decent if predictable read.
