Publisher's summary

Jeff Paxton came home from Afghanistan looking to put down roots. Instead his pregnant sister talks him into a job babysitting the volatile megastar Nigel Gasp. Nigel is stubborn, needy, and determined to be the center of attention everywhere he goes. Before long, Jeff realizes that something is bothering Gasp, and that keeping him out of trouble might be more difficult than he thought.

Nigel never planned on getting old. He simply assumed a hard drinking, hard partying lifestyle would take care of that. Now that he's turning 40, he's depressed and a little bit desperate. To Nigel, 40 seems like a fine age to deposit his DNA and check out while he's still on top.

The last thing Jeff needs is to fall in love with Nigel Gasp. The last thing Nigel expects is a whole new reason to live. But how can Jeff put down roots with a man who is never in the same place twice?

Loved every minute!

Gasp was so moving and clever the entire way through. I usually don’t enjoy 3rd person narrative because I don’t feel a connection with the characters but in Gasp that wasn’t at all the case. I felt for Gasp and Jeff. They both were so flawed but so perfect for each other. The dialogue was hilarious and had me laughing out loud quite a bit. This was such an enjoyable read with Gomez Pugh! He’s so talented, he was able to change accents so effortlessly it honestly felt like there was an entire cast of narrators.

Not a bad gay novel

This novel was very entertaining. For a gay romance novel it had all the good stuff.

GASP, Sigh......

I remember when this book was published. I hedged on buying it because I knew by the premise that it would annoy me. When I saw that Gomez Pugh was narrating it, I decided to take a chance. I'm kinda glad I did, but boy, I could have strangled Nigel and Dierdre most of the time. I felt very sorry for Jeff and wished that he would have stopped apologizing for Nigel's childish behavior when he was the younger of the two and much more mature. I know that his sister was a new mother, but her emotions were too all over the place and she basically threw her brother to the wolves and made him responsible for a loose cannon. I'm glad her wife was more compassionate. The positive aspect was that Gomez was perfect as usual. He does such a great job with characters and I'll listen to anything that he narrates.

Gomez Pugh is the God of voices!

I discovered the 'Power of the Pugh' when reading books by Jordan Castillo Price and loving them so much I tried them in audio - life will never be the same again. think Gomez Pugh could read an ingredients list and make it fascinating. Oh. the story. It's not bad but the voices make it good.

Just OK story; great narration

Yeah, sorry but this book didn't do it for me. The best thing about this book was the AMAZING Gomez Pugh. Man, this book wasn't narrated, it was performed; complete with a very believable British accent for Nigel. The story started off well enough with an ex-Army alpha man babysitting a spoiled rock star. But halfway through, I kept waiting for Nigel to change and have some redeeming value. In my book, it never happened. I just didn't buy what little effort he put towards the relationship and actually got a little angry at Jeff for putting up with his crap. Continually excusing his behavior because of his fame, is crap, IMHO. Then the book ended very abruptly. I guess it could be called a HFN ending, but unless the story continues in a future book, I give their relationship six months.

Gomez Pugh is the best

Where does Gasp! rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The story line was one of the best -- funny and very moving. The characters were well developed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Gasp!?

The hospital scene at the end.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

love grounded

Any additional comments?

Fantastic Performance by Gomez Pugh!

Maybe a smidge predictable in the outcome, but getting there was all the fun. Maxfield always tells a good tale, and Gomez Pugh made this one truly special. I had NO idea Pugh could do so many accents. Bravo!
