A no-nonsense sports hero and a feisty female detective go head-to-head in this funny, fresh, seductive novel from the award-winning New York Times bestselling author known for her unforgettable characters, heartfelt emotion, and laugh-out-loud humor

He’s the former quarterback of the Chicago Stars football team. She’s trying to make a success of her very own detective agency. Her first job? Follow him. Let’s just say it’s not going well. Not well at all . . .

Piper Dove is a woman with a dream—to become the best detective in the city of Chicago. First job? Trail former Chicago Stars quarterback, Cooper Graham. The problem? Graham’s spotted her, and he’s not happy.

Which is why a great detective needs a first-rate imagination. “The fact is . . . I’m your stalker. Not full-out barmy. Just . . . mildly unhinged.”

Piper soon finds herself working for Graham although not as the bodyguard he refuses to admit he so desperately needs. Instead, he’s hired her to keep an eye on the employees at his exclusive new nightclub. But Coop’s life might be in danger, and Piper’s determined to protect him, whether he wants her to or not. (Hint: not!) If only she weren’t also dealing with a bevy of Middle Eastern princesses, a Pakistani servant girl yearning for freedom, a teenager who just wants to fit in, and an elderly neighbor demanding that Piper find her very dead husband.

And then there’s Cooper Graham, a legendary sports hero who always gets what he wants—even if what he wants just might be an intrepid detective hell- bent on proving she’s as tough as he is.

From the bustling streets of Chicago to a windswept lighthouse on Lake Superior to the glistening waters of Biscayne Bay, two people who can’t stand to lose will test themselves and each other to discover what matters most.

Only if I am asked of smth easy of this kind...

What was one of the most memorable moments of First Star I See Tonight?

none really

Which character – as performed by Nicole Poole – was your favorite?

performance of all characters was great

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Maybe it is because I have read all the previous books I already know where the hero would get some emotional breakdown. Anyway, I liked first books like "Hot Shot" much better. Again, maybe because they were first and new for me, now it is more or less the same scenario...

predictable

For anyone who has read Susan Elizabeth Phillips audiobooks, Chicago Star series, please know that this book doesn't compare to any of those. Unfortunately with the death of Anna Fields, any new SEP audiobooks will be not quite as good. The story is OK but it's just not the same. Also, the main character being retired from the Chicago Stars does not make it a Chicago Stars book. I'm not sorry I read it, but I am disappointed.

Not quite more Chicago Stars

Great characters...good story...narration of leading man starts off great but goes wrong somewhere...kind of throws you to listen to the changed voice.

If you love SEP, you wont be disappointed.

This novel is classic SEP! This novel is a coming home for me as a Susan Elizabeth Phillips reader! The last book Heroes are My Weakness was a disappointment. So I was nervous about purchasing this book!
Mrs. Phillips' new novel is a work of pure fun!! Quirky woman meets and marries handsome man! Like the other novels she has written with this basic plot, she has made this book her own funny and interesting new twist and turn of a book!
No true SEP fan will be disappointed in this new novel. If anything it has made me want to revisit the older books!!

Great Novel- Classic SEP!!

Any additional comments?

Not quite as good as some of the earlier books in the series, but still very good. I always like SE Phillips' female characters and the female lead in this book is no exception. She is very likable, but is a little bit too stubborn in believing she is loved. The male lead is a typical SE Phillips' male - big, strong, overbearing, etc and very lovable. I had to take one star away on performance because N. Poole mispronounced Phoebe's last name so miserably. She used three syllables "Kay' Lee Bow" and pronounced "Bow" as in take a bow. It is supposed to be "Kale Bow" with "Bow" pronounced as in bow and arrow. Nicole Poole should have listened to some the previous books and been consistent with the pronunctations from those performances. At the very least the editors should have caught the mispronunciations. I really miss Anna Fields as reader.

Glad to have a new book in the series!
