Escaping the rat race and the lure of gold-digging women, wealthy businessman Vance Banning moves to a small, rural retreat, telling the townsfolk that he's an out-of-work carpenter. All he wants is peace, quiet, and to keep away from women. So the last thing he needs is a charitable neighbor, especially a beautiful, gracious, and persistent neighbor of the female persuasion, but there's something about Shane Abbott he just can't ignore.

Audible Editor Reviews

Why You Should Download This Audiobook: True story. I once saw a little old lady sitting on the floor at Borders, in the romance section. She had pulled every Nora Roberts book off the shelf and was looking at each with intensity. She had just finished three over the past few weeks and enjoyed them so much—she was telling this to a much younger woman who accosted her—that she was looking for another. The young woman's recommendation? This one. With its pleasant, homey quality, and subtle humor, this early gem from the prolific Ms. Roberts left a good enough first impression on us that it qualifies as an iPod jump-starter.

Publisher's Summary

From the master of romance, Nora Roberts, comes a story about love and the magic of the holiday season.

Vance is certain his cover story will stop his lovely neighbor from getting too friendly, but Shane is determined to break down his resistance. Vance has been burned once, so only a fool would fall for the same innocent act twice. And he's no fool. But he has no idea how relentless Shane Abbott can be when it comes to giving a helping hand...or a loving heart.

    "What happened"

The story was o.k. I agree with the other reviewers, the narrator was not the best especially for the lead female. The other disappointment was the ending. It appeared the author just got tired of writing the story. It ended with loose ends left to tie up... like it was an abridged version of the book.

I love Nora Roberts. Reading her books makes me feel like I am living the story myself. I can see everything she shows me.
