In the wake of a failed love affair, brainy beauty Jilly Lovitz takes off for Tokyo. She's expecting to cry on her sister Summer's shoulder, then spend a couple months blowing off steam in Japan. Instead, she's snatched away on the back of a motorcycle, narrowly avoiding a grisly execution attempt meant for her sister and brother-in-law.
Her rescuer is Reno, the Committee's most unpredictable agent. They'd met once before and the attraction was odd - tattooed Yakuza punk meets leggy California egghead - but electric. Now Reno and Jilly are pawns in a deadly tangle of assassination attempts, kidnappings, and prisoner swaps that could put their steamy partnership on ice.

The Fire - The book offered a lot of action! It was almost non-stop. It made for a good read on my commute. The storyline was the standard "I refuse to love you but I can't figure out how to stop it from happening" but there was enough action around the inevitable love story to keep you interested.
The Ice - The narrator was both good and marginal. The Japanese was great. It think this part of the narration added to the story. However, the narration was sometimes painful belabored (and that really does not describe it well). I wanted to have a crush on Reno but I couldn't because he oftentimes sounded so foolish in the narration. Even in that, I do not think another narrator would have added as much to the book.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I have listened to it twice already. It was fast-paced and I felt myself cheering for the main characters both in battle and in love. I even enjoyed hearing some of the elements of Japanese culture coming through in the storyline. Good read!
This is my favorite Anne Stuart so far. Really liked the story and the reader was great.
I barely got through it. There were a couple of good characters. There were more developed characters needed. The banter between the two main characters was great, but the lust aspect needed to be 90% less. The plot was cookbook with an out of the air twist at the end. It was cat and mouse, kind of like a car chase movie.
I would try one. The narrator did a good job.
If there was more story and developed characters. The banter was the best part but the lust was 90% of the book. Of course the book is not meant to be realistic however, no woman would forgive and forget the cruel, crude public humiliation that the love interest repeatedly does.
There was potential but the execution was lacking.
I adore this audiobook. Reno is seriously hot!!! And Xe Sands does a great job with the narration and the Japanese. Seriously, this is a really fabulous audiobook!!
better plot, less foul language
This novel really was more sexual tension than any kind of plot - romance? Not really romantic, just graphic, leaving little to the imagination.
This book is one of the rare few where the narrator and the story really compliment each other. I love Anne Stuart's books but particularly the ones featuring The Committee. If you are familiar with the series the two protagonists Jilly and Reno should be familiar as well. Jilly is a practically naive girl and lives a sheltered life but is quick witted and adaptable when thrust in the dangerous world of The Committee. Reno is a cocky, arrogant young man who should be totally off putting to readers but as the story progresses and readers get to know him is likeable and drool worthy. Stuart's books are packed with action and sex and are a fun and exciting listen. I loved how much Japanese culture the author was able to imbue into this book.
Ms. Sands is a fabulous narrator. I have listened to her master several accents in different books but her Japanese accent is not only believable but very pleasing to listen to. The way she is able to deliver sarcasm and one liners, especially Reno's, is amazing. This is a book I will listen to more than once. I really enjoyed this listen, keep 'em coming!
Was waiting for their story after seeing the attraction when they first met. Was very satisfied with their story and narrator was great. I have enjoyed the whole ICE series but I wish Anne would do a short epilogue in her books.
Give me water to swim and surf in. That with a glass of white wine and the sun. That's heaven.
I have never read the print version, but I doubt it could have been better than the narrated one.
When Reno admits to himself the depth of his feelings.
This is top notch, just as all Xe Sand's performances are.
Yes, but it wasn't possible.
This book isn't really a romance,,, more like abuse, rough sex and a whole bunch of unlikeable characters. I couldn't finish it but I sincerely hope the author didn't end it with a wedding and pregnancy thinking that would certify it as a romance novel.
