When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too - but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success - his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family - Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

This audiobook is intended for mature audiences.

Look for E L James’ passionate new love story, The Mister, coming April 16, 2019.

The movie is better and that's saying something!

What would have made Fifty Shades of Grey better?

The author had a vocabulary that was beyond grade nine education.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not the second or third book.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Becca Battoe?

Anyone but her; the woman has no acting skills whatsoever.

What character would you cut from Fifty Shades of Grey?

Let's see, there are only two... where to start?

Any additional comments?

Don't listen to this garbage, the book may be more graphic than the movie but the movie is shorter and less time wasted. If you're looking for a good BDSM story read the classic: The Story of O.

Whiskey tango foxtrot!

I bought this title, intrigued by the thought of a good steamy novel and curious about its mass popularity. I am mystified and more than a little concerned that generations of women find this book titillating. Had Grey been a middle-aged,overweight, balding, unemployed man with the same issues, I think you would've found this title in the crimes or horror classification. Wake up women! There's nothing erotic about subjugation.

Stupid, Stupid , Stupid

There is no other words for abuse and please do not waste your money , we want our young women to have respect for themselves and not be woed by a man that is warped.
And that goes for all the books.

Wow-what?

This book wasn???t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Na

What could E L James have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

There were soooooo many repetition of sayings and it was just getting way too over the top. I don't known it just doesn't sound natural there's so many wishy washy dialogue.

How could the performance have been better?

New narrator please. This is the worst narration I've heard over 300 books. I was trying to keep on listening to it! But the narration is so bad that I felt like I'm listening to 10 year old valley girls who try to use big word for better affect.

What character would you cut from Fifty Shades of Grey?

Na

Any additional comments?

I'm going to try and read the book to see if it encourages me to read the next one, but if this is bad so far I'm almost Afraid to buy the book.

Not as good as I expected.

The book was not as good as I expected. I feel it was over rated. There was a lot of repeated phrases and to many left out details.

Holy Crap! It sucks!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A new author, a believeable story, and a different narrator.

What could E L James have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

She could have made an attempt to write an interesting book- not one depending on sex to sell her dull, unimaginative, worn out phrases. Worse yet, she has a tendency to repeat them, over and over, and over again. I found the emailing repetiveness especially irritating. It seemed as though she was making an effort to come up with a required miminum amount of words for a high school essay. Yeech! I could listen to no more.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator was nearly as boring and irritating the author.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It probably could light a fire, but only in a fireplace.

Any additional comments?

Don't buy the hype, or the book- it isn't worth your time or money.

a horrible story about broken people

Would you try another book from E. L. James and/or Becca Battoe?

No.

What could E. L. James have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Umm... not sure beyond just not writing it.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She didn't.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not really. It's a story of a strong girl who allows herself to be controlled by a broken boy. I see that every day at a women's shelter... I don't want to read about it too.

Too baudy for my taste!

I did not pursue listening after the first couple of chapters. This was too graphically pornographic for my taste. If I could, I would demand my credits be returned on this one!
