When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too - but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success - his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family - Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

This audiobook is intended for mature audiences.

Look for E L James’ passionate new love story, The Mister, coming April 16, 2019.

Not impressed

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes. It was too dragged out.

Would you ever listen to anything by E L James again?

Probably not.

What didn’t you like about Becca Battoe’s performance?

Too slowly read and monotone. Had to speed up to 1 1/2 times to get through it.

Was Fifty Shades of Grey worth the listening time?

No. I was happy to have other books to read and listen.

Any additional comments?

I was told by many reliable people to go with this book as they couldn't put it down. After the first third, I was bored and disappointed to have wasted my credit. I've known people like Mr. Gray and of the life style. I don't approve or disapprove. I just don't feel the need to live vicariously through someone else's sexual preferences.

I listen a lot due to vision issues, this particular story is definitely not one I would waste my time on.

A breathe taking grown up Cinderella Story

What made the experience of listening to Fifty Shades of Grey the most enjoyable?

I very much enjoyed the innner struggle that Ana experiences throughout the story and how she takes you on this emotional journey with her.

What did you like best about this story?

The devotion to detail without being vulgar. The descriptions and experiences of Ana and Christian are very well played out. Tastefully written.

Which character – as performed by Becca Battoe – was your favorite?

I loved Anastacia Steel. It was a hard choice for the narrator really did a great job in brining life to each of the characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Anticipation and arrousal would have to be the extreme feelings in this series.

Any additional comments?

I will return and listen to this series over and over. I have recommended it to all my co-readers and will put the shades of gray series on my top ten list..... a must read for grown women readers...

READ ME!

What made the experience of listening to Fifty Shades of Grey the most enjoyable?

Awesome book. I couldn't stop listening! It could have used a few more juicy sceens but it was a great book.

What other book might you compare Fifty Shades of Grey to and why?

None

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I always listen to books from audible on 2X because I think they read too slow and I like to get through books fast --- So as long as I have that option to speed them up they are fine. I wouldn't be able to listen at regular speed though no.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Extream reaction yes. laugh or cry no.

Disappointed

Would you be willing to try another one of Becca Battoe’s performances?

I had looked forward to this series, as I had heard all the hype but I was so disappointed with the performance that I quit listening half way through the book. It was like listening to a valley girl. Albeit, parts of the book are a bit over the top but college coeds, especially ones who are supposed to be as bright as these are, just don't sound like that.

Major Similarities

This story seems to be a more erotic version of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyor. With the expectation of the whole vampire thing the characters are pretty similar to the ones in Meyor’s book. You have a shy sexually inexperienced student (although it is in collage and not high school) with self-esteem issues, who immerses herself in old English romantic literature. You have one corky irresponsible mother with relationship issues. An insignificant step father and a father with bottled up emotional constipation. In walks this extremely wealthy dark stranger to whom she is immediately infatuated with that wants to lavish ridiculously expensive gifts on her. He also reluctantly falls for her but he has this extremely dark secret that she can tell no one about.
