When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too - but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success - his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family - Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

This audiobook is intended for mature audiences.

Endearing story

In the beginning you can tell the Narrator doesn't fully connect with the character until Chapter 3.
From then on it gets dark, seductive, and hopeful!
Could not stop listening.
However, I was annoyed by the narration of the email yet that is the producers fault.
Overall, a fun listen!

I am entranced with this love story. A must read!!

This book was not what I expected. But I had no barometer so I'm not sure what I expected. I am a romantic .....it was and is the best book I've ever read. Even though some of the reverence seemed to be redundant, I just barely cared. I've recommended it to everyone I know. It allows you a glimpse of a lifestyle portrayed in a very civilized way and opens thoughts of seduction done in a less than mundane way. I've made it a point to take some lessons from Christian and Anna to spice up my 20 yr marriage ! I've read all three books three times now and have found new things I missed each time. Thank you E L James !

could use a different narrator

it was good but the narrator is rather bland and when she reads bad language it's like she's never cursed before. she also at times leaves you wondering who's lines she's reading especially when she's read Jose and Christian's parts.

Just Average

Book One of Fifty Shades was an average read/listen. Initially, I thought E. L. James must be a very young or inexperienced writer because of the repetitive sex scenes. The narrator was ok. She possibly added to my thoughts about the author being a young inexperienced writer. Three-fourths of the book was very repetitive. The book would be better written if the repetitive three-fourths could be summed up in one or two chapters. One of the reasons I kept listening to the book is that I wanted to know why Fifty Shades was so hooked on his dark sexual behaviors. This first book only revealed a couple of clues about what happened to Fifty Shades. The book actually leaves the reader feeling sorry for both of the main characters in the story. They love each other but neither character can provide the other what's needed in a loving relationship. I will purchase the remaining books first, to finish out the story and secondly, because I want to know what happens with the relationship. I also want to know how Fifty Shades got hooked on these behaviors.
