When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too - but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success - his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family - Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

This audiobook is intended for mature audiences.

Look for E L James’ passionate new love story, The Mister, coming April 16, 2019.

Absolutely fantastic story!

What made the experience of listening to Fifty Shades of Grey the most enjoyable?

I loved Becca Battoe as the reader. Her voice was perfect for my imagination to grasp ahold of the characters.

What does Becca Battoe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice and character voice changes were very well done. in each scene I was clear about the voices. She was consistent with the voices, so I was always aware of which character was talking. Her voice was perfect for Anna!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I laughed. I laughed at the crazy sexual relationship the main characters had, and I was so mad at Christian at one point in the story also.

Review:

"Fifty Shades of Grey" by E.L. James was on amazing read all rolled up into one. You are kept on the edge of your seat with these two characters...Anastasia Steel and Christian Grey. Even though this 'Dominate' was not my type of loving but this author kept it interesting enough that I would not stop reading until the end and you know what? I liked 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' I will definitely be reading the next two novels of this series by this author.

The written version is better.

The story starts off a little slow and repeats several phrases over and over. But overall it's erotic.

Very Hard to Listen and Repetitive Themes

What did you like best about Fifty Shades of Grey? What did you like least?

I nearly gave up on this book. Narrator's voice makes you want to slap Ana even more than you would normally. I found myself rolling my eyes quite often. Narrator and writing totally separate things of course. How many times could someone hear/read "Holy ___," "Oh my," or "my inner goddess?" Make it stop, please!

I find myself wanting to attempt the second book just to see how their relationship changes but that will likely be a few books from now and maybe not in audio. I need a break from the voice and holy craps.

Would you be willing to try another one of Becca Battoe’s performances?

No.

Love story depicts softer side of erotic tastes.

Where does Fifty Shades of Grey rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This novel is difficult to place in a ranking amongst previous audiobooks as it's in a class of its own. In the erotic category it is actually much, much softer than anticipated. The growth potential of the characters is what intrigues and motivates me to listen to more.

Would you be willing to try another book from E L James? Why or why not?

As I do not see myself listening to only erotica and I am uncertain of other E L James' works, I can not determine if I would listen to other books at this juncture. It's an interesting cross-road in which I find myself.

What about Becca Battoe’s performance did you like?

Her character's voice depicted a young unaffected simplicity that worked very well in this novel.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The blossoming love story that is the heart of the novel lightens the pretense of what could be a dark world of dominance and submission. However, there were no extreme high or lows in this novel. I was not as moved or shocked as I would have liked. The only climax toward the end was the realization that E L James hooked me into needing to read book 2 in order to quench my desire to learn more about Mr. Grey.

Enchanting ❤

My very first romance audiobook. Well, I am curious about this book and I am glad that there's an audiobook version. So I can try it. I am not sorry to listen the series of Fifty Shades, the last part of these series made me cry because there's a flavor of Love. Aside from Romance thing. There's a drama and action. It's Kinda weird at first to listen to a romance audio book but I did enjoyed the characters, the love story between Anastasia and Christian Grey. So It's an awesome story and narration!

Horrible Narration

The narrator is horrible and pretty much makes you cringe throughout the whole story. The weird fake man voice she uses whenever talking from the POV of a male character s laughable, especially the way she reads for Jose - not only is it a terrible man voice, but she makes him sound slow and impaired. She makes Christian sound horrible as well.
