Cara Paulsen does not give up easily. A scientist and a single mother, she's used to fighting for what she wants, keeping a cool head, and doing whatever it takes to protect her daughter Janie. But "whatever it takes" has never before included a shotgun wedding to a dangerous-looking stranger with an attitude problem....
Sure, the mysterious Talen says that he's there to protect Cara and Janie. He also says that he's a 300-year-old vampire. Of course, the way he touches her, Cara might actually believe he's had that long to practice....

I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
When Empath Cara and her 4 yr old psychic daughter suddenly get kidnapped early one morning little does she realise but she'll be married and mated within 24 hours..... to a handsome, sexy, overbearing, dictatorial, arrogant Alpha Vampire called Talen who says he's protecting her and her daughter Janie from imminent and great danger. There's instant chemistry and lust between them but Scientist and single Mom Cara's no pushover and so she tries to fight him and his sexy pull by always planning to run away (which does get a little annoying at times but hey I've never been kidnapped by a Vampire!). So right from the start she's suddenly plunged into a paranormal world where Vampires, Witches, Shapeshifters and Faires exist..... and their lives will never be the same again.
Cara and Janie are 'gifted' and they are very much wanted by more than just Talen as an evil force of Vampires called the Kurjans also wants her and Janie so it's a race against time to escape the threat and then escape him too. Talen's combat skills are lethal but it's going to take patience, understanding and loving care to win over his stubborn soulmate who he has been waiting 300 years for. However, as the villains draw nearer and they devise some frightening life altering drugs and start kidnapping, the emphasis of the story becomes one of survival rather than seduction.
If you can get over the instant attraction, lust and sex (as I so easily did) then there's a really exciting ongoing story of five Royal Vampire brothers who need to claim and protect their gifted mates from the evil Vampires. And, in the process, they have to fight and win over their unwilling mates whilst keeping them from the clutches of their deadly enemy whose Oracle has foretold a Prophecy, a Prophecy that's going to shake and change the world.
There's thrills, chills, sexy times, romance, passion, twists, nail-biting tense situations, snappy dialogue and a love story that has a HEA ending but the War is about to begin. Multiple POV's but mainly from the H/H's and a narrator who did all the many character's voices so well you could easily distinguish who was talking whether it was..... a 4 yr old girl, an Alpha Vampire, a feisty Heroine, an evil sulphur smelling Vampire or all the other interesting secondary characters.
Worth a credit? Yes it was a very enjoyable, addictive and creditworthy start to a new paranormal series where Alpha Vamps want to possess, protect, impregnate and cherish their mates but unfortunately so do the evil Kurjans and it seems it's going to be a bitter fight to the death involving other paranormals. Book 1 in the Dark Protectors series...... the feisty vs. the dominant and good vs. evil makes for an entertaining listen and a good start to a brand new series.
Just Another Audiobook Addict! Love listening to all types of romances, but occasionally need a good Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or a book with humor!
Steamy, Fast Paced, and Action Packed!
I loved most of the characters and the banter between the males was funny, I like how they took care of the four year old Janie while her mom, Cara, was not around. However, the lead female character was annoying to me.
I though the narrator tried to put to much emotion into Cara's responses to Talen; it came across as whining and breathless. I cringed and rolled my eyes a lot during the "steamy scenes".
Fated, from the moment I touched you.
After listening to the first story, this series sounds like it has a lot of potential, and I will listen to the next story.
Please get another Narrator for your books.. This lady is awful!
Man takes on the child and calls his own alone with his brothers.
I decided to pick up this series after listening to the Sin Brothers series by this same duo. I was a huge fan of that series and since I love vamps and shifters, I figured I couldn’t go wrong with this series. I will say that I went into this series no little about it. I knew I liked the author and narrator. I knew it was a paranormal romance. That was it. I didn’t read the blurb for the book. I did look a few of the ratings for people I trusted.
The story starts with Cara, a single mom who is a botanist. She has quite the obsession with plants. Her daughter sees the future and has other special abilities. Cara does too, but she represses them. Their world explodes when Talen breaks in to save them before a much worse person comes to kidnap the two of them.
Talen is a royal part of vampire family. Him and his brothers are working to protect their race from a different kind of vampire. They had a treaty, but it was recently broken and now the two sides are at war. Talen is also very surprised to find that Cara is his fated mate.
I found this story very good, though there are aspects of it that I’ve seen before. For one, I thought it felt a lot like the Sin Brothers at first. Brothers with a military background who were just as tight and loyal as the Dean Brothers were. Also, there are aspects from Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. Vampires that are all male and can only mate with certain females of the human race with special abilities.
While I wasn’t a huge fan of the plot of this Fated, I loved the characters. Cara wasn’t my favorite, but her daughter Janie was great. I also am very interested in more about Emma, Cara’s sister, who has not been suppressing her powers. There are also the shapeshifters. I really feel like this series has a potential and I can’t wait to get further into this series.
I love Karen White‘s narrator of this book. I was so glad to see that when Audible decided to put this series on audio, that they kept this author/narrator pairing. Ms. White’s pacing and character voices for both men and women are tremendous. She is a narrator that I will always be excited to find narrating a book that I’m interested in.
*I was gifted a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Once you get past the sex the plot is really interesting. I can't wait for to listen to the next book. I love books with romance action and plot.
Well the story isn't bad per say but the reader is horrible. This breathy voice constantly sounding like she is either super scared or faking arousal ... It's hard to listen to for the eight hours the book takes. The story is ok - I mean nothing new but hey these kind a books are hardly ever a "new" story but still entertaining. But man the heroine is annoying. Super weak and such a push over all u wanna do is shake her. I don't have a lot of patience for weak female heroines... At least not in my books. Her guy is kind of an ass too, very middle age: come here woman and be my slave kind a guy. The combination is this weird dominant-submissive relationship that gets real weird when it comes to their sex life... Not really my thing.
Wouldn't buy it again and was kind a waste of a point....
The only problem with this series is the narrator she sucked. Maybe you should have had a male narrator too she sounded like a robot. I have this series in digital and it's very good. If this series could be done over choose a male.
I did not read the book.
I laughed more that I thought something was horribly sad
I loved the story line it was right up my listening reading alley, but I had problems getting past the reader. She was stunted and hard to listen to. I suspect she has narrated the story line and yes I will more than likely buy the rest of the books in the series but have to get past the narration and focus on the story line.
Has all the promise and great story line of the brotherhood series
The narrator was difficult to listen to . Very stunted words, cut off and not very flowing. you had to make your way past it to the story. To be honest if the story line had been any less than it was I would not have pursued the book to the end.

Stars: Overall: 4 Narration: 5 Story: 4
I’m a latecomer to Rebecca Zanetti’s books, having only read the first in her Sin Brothers series, but Dark Protectors looked to be fun, exciting and just something I would love. When the opportunity came to review the titles in audio with Karen White Narrating, there was no way I could refuse.
Fated starts with a bang as Cara and her little girl Janey are facing a series of orders from an obviously alpha male, used to getting his own way. What was happening to her quiet life researching plants, her carefully constructed and non-challenging world with Janey at the centre?
Cara was frustrating yet her determination to hold to something comfortable and familiar was understandable. Cara is a total innocent to all things paranormal: her reaction to the realization of vampires, witches and shifters should have sent her over the edge. I wanted a bit more spine and determination, but it arrived slowly and in spurts.
Talen has a “my way or my way NOW’ approach. A vampire of some 300 years, his dedication and desire to maintain balance highlight his positives. But, SO many negatives: his inability to explain until it’s too late, his stubborn refusal to listen to Cara’s objections or concerns. His growth is hard won: softening with Janie and his own wonder at Cara and their bond are well described and show progress.
Narration is provided by Karen White and after this listen, I would follow her anywhere. She deftly uses her voice to create characters, detail action and emotion, and present the story with cleverly inserted pauses and breathy insets that clearly indicate tension, hesitation, action and confusion. Never missing a beat, each character has their own tone, delivery and cadence that builds to become their character in conjunction with the development in the book. A polished yet not overly ‘slick’ performance and production that kept me engaged and listening, loathe to put the book down.
Zanetti has set up a fun and fast paced sexy series with promise for more adventure and action to come. At the center is the struggle for continuation of the two sides (good and bad) while gaining advantages with the inclusion of the psychic abilities that Cara and Janie possess.
Clever world-building, plenty of secondary characters and the fight for good versus evil highlight this story and have me anxious for the next in the series.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title via Audible Communications for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
