Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant Sam Holland needs a big win to salvage her career - and her confidence - after a disastrous investigation. The perfect opportunity arises when Senator John O’Connor is found brutally murdered in his bed, and Sam is assigned to the case. Matters get complicated when Sam has to team up with Nick Cappuano, O’Connor’s friend and chief of staff...and the man Sam had a memorable one-night stand with years earlier. Their sexual chemistry still sizzles, and Sam has to fight to stay focused on the case. Sleeping with a material witness is another mistake she can’t afford - especially when the bodies keep piling up.

"[L]ightning-quick and intense. This novel is “The O.C.” does D.C., and you just can’t get enough.” (RT Book Reviews)
I would have given it 5 stars but the reader is HORRIBLE! The author is one of my new favorites.
I would recommend the BOOK, not so much the audiobook if one can help it. The story was great but the narrator totally killed it for me.
the narrator wasn't bad, I just think she was more suited for YA novels. Some of the more adult scenes read by her was a bit unsettling as she has a more youthful voice.
I listened to this book because the description captured my interest. It was the best decision I could have made. The narrator and story line were good, but the characters were wonderful. Sam and Nick reminded me of Dallas and Rourke from J.D. Robb's prolific Death series. I was so taken with this first book that I immediately purchased the whole series and listened to them all in three days. Now I can't wait for the next one; I really really hope this series continues.
After finishing Safe Haven, I had a really hard time finding something else to listen too, stumbled upon this one, and I love it, almost as much. Didn't even realize this was a series, sooo excited.
I have returned 2 previous books by other narrators, just couldnt get past them. She did an excellent job. Made the book.
Married, not quite 40 mom from the mid-west. I sit behind a computer all day translating large amounts of data into business solutions.
Fatal Affair is truly an enjoyable light read. Marie Force does a wonderful job with the character development. I love Sam, Nick and Freddie! The story line is truly fictional with Nick and Sam having an inappropriate relationship for a witness/investigator, not to mention the willingness of fellow officers to overlook the ethical issues or this relationship. But the storyline is one you want to believe is plausible - the characters are just so compelling. Well deserved 5 stars.
I am a long time audio book listener. This is my first review. I am very impressed. It is easy to love the two main characters. There is a wonderful story, a family you can believe, "family values" that are real and have been tested. There is love, romance and some wonderful sex. It is a full service story. Marie Force seems to be a relatively new author and I predict we will see a lot of her soon.
I hope she keeps Sam and Nick around for a very long time. I am hooked.
Read them in order.
This was my first Marie Force book and I loved it. The storyline is gripping with the murder of a US Senator being found brutally murdered and dismembered. Found by his best friend Nick. The Detective Sergeant who is assigned to the case needs this as she is dealing with her demons from a previous case. This is where the love story comes in as Nick and Sam had had a one night stand 6 years previously in which Nick lost the love of his life being her. The story is full of twists and turns, secrets and deception. The ending just blew me away fantastic listen.
Reading has always been my guilty pleasure. I would take stacks of books from the library. Now I listen to Audible.
I was looking for a series to tide me over until the next IN DEATH came along. This is it.
I really enjoyed the first book. The male voices were a little off putting but not enough to stop me from listening.
To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.
A fantastic first book in a new series. The opening chapter hooks one immediately and doesn't let go till the end.
Even though I guessed early on who the perpetrator may be it still was a very good finish.
Give this book a read, a lil gruesome in certain areas but that adds to the mystique of the finish.
How this narrator ever got more than 1 star is beyond me. I'm only at 2% and Nick is telling Chris that the senator has been murdered and both Nick and Chris sound exactly the same.
Chrystal, another reviewer, said it all: the narrator is horrible. I'am soo done with this listen.
I would also like to say that the description tells us what the book is about or we can zip over to Amazon and look at reviews. This is AUDIBLE! What we need to review is the narrator. Does he or she suck? Why? Is he or she too nasal-y, too sweet for the kind of book he or she is reading, to gruff, too bland, too robotic, lacks emotion. Is he or she doing nothing but reading the book? Not changing his or her voice for the male and female voices? Is the narrator sounding the same whether she or he is reading a whisper spoken?
Most of us on AUDIBLE don't really care what the book is about. We want to know about the narrator! IMO..
