So-so

I had trouble with Melody, the female main character. I just found her annoying and hard. If I was Harlan I would have left her after the first week. She's not very likeable.

UGH!!

AWFUL!! I've listened to a lot of audiobooks but this is the first one I've been compelled to review. I wish I could blame it on the narrator (who wasn't very good) BUT, sorry Suzanne - you really blew this one. She included just about every sappy cliche, characters had NO depth, and all were wimpy (except maybe Melody's sister and Andy). I love the Troubleshooter series - funny, fun word-play and full complex characters - "Gone Too Far" and "Flashpoint" my favorites. I'm glad I read those first because if I'd started with "Everyday, Average Jones" I'd have passed Brockmann off as a bad Harlequin author. Go for Troubleshooters series instead - MUCH better.

Great Narrator, Loved the story

One installment of the "Alpha Squad" SEALS. Truly enjoyed this book, narrator one of Audible's best and the characters believable. Definitely worth the credits. Will listen to this book more than once.

Didn't care for this one

The main character started out interrsting and strong. Then strong was mixed up with ridiculously stupid, she strung him along until the last chapter.

Just skip this one...

This has to be my least favorite of Brockmann’s SEAL books. It starts out well, with the SEALs rescuing Melody Evans from hostage situation at a foreign embassy. Harlan “Cowboy” Jones is her personal escort during the escape. After the rescue, the have a brief but hot fling.

Then it is all downhill. Melody learns she is pregnant. Keeps it a secret. Cowboy finds out and comes to persuade her to have a relationship. Melody proceeds to go on and on and on about how she wants to marry someone normal. She is TSTL as well as arrogant and obtuse. Melody is in no way redeemed and didn’t really find myself cheering their HEA.

Note: Please, do not stop at this book ~ the others are so much better. I am not even sure you have to read it to enjoy the rest of the series.

UPDATE 8/12/19: I usually skip this book when rereading the series. However all the TDD books are on Audible Escape, so I thought I would give it another try. I had to DNF. The narrator is terrible. She performs action scenes with the excitement of someone reading a grocery list. When following the book saying that Joe Cat has a NY accent, she gives him 4 words in that accent and then drops back into her lackluster voice for the remainder of his dialogue. The same with Blue’s southern accent. It’s like she can’t be bothered.

Couldn't have made a more unlikable heroine.

Have to say this heroine is the worst I have ever read in any book. Was the author purposely making her unrelateable and detestable as possible? Not sure what she was thinking with this one.

Slow to the point

Good beginning, but then slowed down to a crawl. Both the story and the narrator. Could she read any slower? I can understand slowing down for effect but every word in the whole book was drug out. As for the actual story, in real life Jones would have told a clueless Melanie to grow up and marry him NOW! Predictable ending, thank goodness.

The h... Grr!

Let me start by saying that this book is not typical of the series so I am counting it as a one-off.

The story starts out strong in the middle of the action and our MCs have that magnetic attraction. They later have a wild week and then our h's true colors show.

Melanie, our h, is in my top 10 worst heroines of all time! Because our H did not fit a super-specific, boring man role, she was going to drive him away. She then finds out that she is pregnant and refuses to let him know.

He goes to visit her, finds out that she is 7 months pregnant when she passes out in front of him. He rushes her to the hospital and she thanks him by berating him and telling him to stay out of her life.

He stays like the glutton for punishment that he is and she spends the next 80% of the story pushing him away and treating him like garbage (most of that time).

I almost decided not to finish but I stuck it out. It really irks me when the H or h is a horrible person throughout the story, then has an epiphany at the end to be a good person. GAH!

Way too long

What would have made Everyday, Average Jones better?

It took way too long for the story to develop. I almost didn't finish it. I thought Melody was way too bull headed which I know was the point, however, it was dragged out too long.

What could Suzanne Brockmann have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

make it shorter.

What three words best describe Maia Guest’s voice?

boring

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment

Any additional comments?

I loved Frisco's Kid and Prince Joe this one fell short. Not sure if I will chance listening to any of the others.
