Publisher's Summary

Dear Listener: Evening Star, formerly titled Sweet Surrender, first appeared in 1984. I have not rewritten it, but now this novel is where it belongs - it’s the first book in what has become the Star Quartet. In Midnight Star, the first book in the former Star Trilogy, you met Delaney Saxton in San Francisco in 1851. Evening Star features his older brother, Alex Saxton, with Delaney making a cameo appearance.

Giana Van Cleve, the heroine, has fallen in love with a vicious fortune hunter. Her mother, the renowned shipowner and builder Aurora Van Cleve, is desperate to save her daughter. She agrees to support Giana’s wedding if Giana agrees first to spend an unusual three months in Rome with her Uncle Daniele. But Giana’s uncle takes this bargain far beyond what Aurora ever imagined.

Thus, Giana first sees Alex Saxton not in a society drawing room, but in a brothel. The next time she sees him, she is one of the virgins to be sold to the highest bidder at the infamous Roman Flower Auction. He wins the bid and her, but not for long. Four years later, when Alex meets Giana again in London, she has become a woman intent on success in a man’s world. Alex is set on revenge - he will have her and nothing will stop him.

Would you make Giana’s bargain with Daniele? Would you keep the bargain? Agree to be part of the Roman Flower Auction? Let me know - Catherine Coulter

    "Annoying start but got better"

When oh when are the publishing houses going to realise that the narrator can make or break a book!!?? Slow start, I nearly stopped listening to it, but persevered and thankfully it did get better. I just couldn't relate to the main character - a 17 year old heiress that is spoilt rotten and won't listen to anyone so she is sent away to Rome for 3 months. But her Uncle takes her to a seedy brothel and accidentally sells her virginity to a rich American.

Fast forward 4 years - she has now grown up (and is more likeable) but she is totally disillusioned with men and marriage. She and her mother has to do business with the rich American who wants what he paid for and won't take no for an answer.

Do I think I wasted my credit - No

Would I download the next in the series - Probably

    "Good story poor performance"
Would you try another book from Catherine Coulter and/or Chloe Campbell?

No problem with Catherine Coulter books it's the person reading it that is killing me.

What didn’t you like about Chloe Campbell’s performance?

Chloe Campbell should find a different job cause her reading is really really bad - this was nothing more then a waist of a credit

    "Narration Can Ruin A Book!"
How could the performance have been better?

The accents were horrible and took away from my ability to tolerate even listening to the story.

I am quiet and love being comfortable. I love curling up in a corner either reading or listening to a nice romantic book.

    "Could have been better"

I must say this not one of Catherine's best book, but it was interesting enough. It was a good enough read however the narrator was not suitable. Chloe is believe is more suitable for children's stories and not adult romance. If there was a stronger narrator, this book may have turned out to be a lot better and more interesting but Chloe did not pull that off.

    "Great Book"

This is a great wonderful romance story and I absolutely LOVE Catherine Coulter but the narrator is not very good. Please stick with Anne Flosnik for these kinds of books.

    "Beyond awful"

Immprobable scenarios at best, not to mention totally cliched dialog and the most boring bedroom scenes. This one should have stayed buried.

    "CELEBRATION OF A PATHOLOGIC RELATIONSHIP"
What disappointed you about Evening Star?

Her use of the Italian brothel to 'spice up' the story with sexual peccadilloes; her celebration of a pathologic relationship as 'romance.'

How could the performance have been better?

Actual knowledge of vocabulary and appropriate pronunciation and meanings of words obviously not this narator's strong suit.
