Publisher's summary

An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness … and now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.

Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she’s only imagined in her worst nightmares.

At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master vampire who thought he’d seen it all. Then Kira appears—this fearless, beautiful human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life. Yet sending her away is unthinkable.

With danger closing in, Mencheres must choose either the woman he craves or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction.

Critic reviews

“In the second spin-off from the best-selling Night Huntress series, Frost produces a tale that is wildly romantic as well as action-packed. If Frost keeps this up, fans will need to build more keeper shelves!” ( Romantic Times)

Okay, Bones doesn't sound like my British ex but!

Checking down in the comments, it seems like everyone's biggest sticking point, is some of the accents of the characters.

But you quickly get used to the accent and grow rather fond of Tavia's impression of Bones. Its definitely not an upper crust poshy accent (by any stretch of the imagination), BUT I can't say I've never heard something similar whilst traveling about the UK.

To be quite honest, aside from some occasional mistakes here and there, it smoothes out over the first few chapters of the Night Huntress series, and by this book its kind of settled into its own feel.

Tavia's expressiveness and general quality of narration, matches perfectly with Frost's witty and fiery style. Tavia has truly set a benchmark for me by which I tend to judge other audiobooks, and be assured, there are a number of ab's on audible that I won't purchase simply because I can't deal with the voice.

So take it from me. I've munched down every single book from Jeaniene Frost in the past 2 month's and I'm totally ready for more. So don't let a few bad comments scare you away. Listen to the clip and just try it on for size! Between this series and the Charlene Harris Southern Vamp series with Sookie & narrator Johanna Parker, I haven't been able to find another combination that has lived up to these in both quality and the ability to pique my interest though the entire series.

I loved it!!

This was a great read. The twists and turns of the book was unexpected and the romance was nice and steamy. I think Tavia Gilbert is a WONDERFUL narrator and she did a great job with all of the voices and accents, she makes the different characters believable. LOVED IT!!!

another great book in the series

This was a fun book to read, with some nice humor and great development into one of the characters we have seen over all the books but never really knew much about. I have thouroughly enjoyed these books, and this one does not disappoint. One note: this comes before the fifth book of the Night Huntress series, and after the first Nt Huntress World bk. From the author's website: "Reading order of Night Huntress series including Night Huntress World spin-off novels: HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE; ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE; AT GRAVE’S END; DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE; FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON; ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS; THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE."

Tired of Vampire Romance....but I still LOVED this

Despite my exhaustion over Vampire Romance books (the market is saturated with them now) I still LOVED this one! Even though this is book 2 of the Night Huntress Series you don't have to read the first one to be hooked. (although the first book is good too)
I enjoyed the strong heroine in this installment and the narration was superb!

Eternal Kiss of Darkness is the whole package!

What made the experience of listening to Eternal Kiss of Darkness the most enjoyable?

Jeaniene Frost is a great writer and like most authors some books are just better than others. She's wowed me a couple of times in her Night Huntress series and now she's gone ahead and done it again with Eternal Kiss of Darkness. This was my first audio book experience and it was so good that I'm already listening to another one. I'm not entirely sure if my rating would be the same had I simply read this novel as is my usual habit. I'd like to think so but Tavia Gilbert's narration was phenomenal so I can't help but question if her voice helped sway my ranking a tad. Not that that's a bad thing; I'm just curious.

Mencheres... RAAAR!! I'm so completely smitten with him after this book. In the series I found him a bit intimidating. Old and baddass would be accurate words to describe him but never sexy. Until now. His character has always been clouded in mystery in the Night Huntress series but this spin-off tells all. His origins are Egyptian, no real surprise there but who he actually was back when he was alive is a real jaw dropper! I enjoyed learning more about the wrongs that his deceased wife inflicted upon him and why. But, what I liked the most was seeing the cracks in his stone cold exterior. Mencheres' feelings for Kira show him in a very different light. He's no less scary but it was nice to find out that this ancient vamp's heart isn't black. Do NOT mess with his woman! He might be in love but that definitely doesn't make him weak. Quite the contrary in fact!

Vlad *swoon*. Apparently my thoughts on this book are all related to the opposite sex. What can I say!? Frost sure knows what type of men I like! Dracula's role in this story was a lot larger than I'd anticipated and this made me excessively happy. I ♥ Vlad. He's good in a pinch so Mencheres called in a favor. As usual, he was his snarky self. Tavia does a great job of switching up her voice when reading dialogue for different characters. Her accents were really good too! Cat and Bones also make a brief appearance but it didn't do much for me. Oh well, I'm sort of happy that this dynamic duo didn't steal the spotlight away from Mencheres and Kira.

To date, Jeaniene hasn't topped her famous Chapter 32 from One Foot In The Grave but I think she just bullseye'd it with Eternal Kiss of Darkness. Again, maybe I'm saying this partly because this is an audio book and there's something naughty about having a sex scene read out loud to you but... DAMN! Eternal Kiss of Darkness is the whole package. It's got kick ass fights, squelching lovin' and a plot line that just won't quit. I can't WAIT until Once Burned is published. For those of you not in the know, Vlad's getting his own spin-off! SQUEEEE!

P.S. This has to be one of the girliest reviews that I've ever written.

Awesome!

Jeaniene Frost is becoming one of my favorite authors. She writes with humor and depth to her characters. I also love how Tavia Gilbert narrates. The characters were very easy to identify with. It is a great love story and it is easily one of the books I would listen to again. Definitely worth a credit!

Best female protagonist in ages!

I LOVED this one! Kira is a great, no-nonsense, female protagonist. She's real, very believable. I hope Ms. Frost will elaborate on this one in future endeavors. Great story!!!
