Divided by blood. Destined by fate.
Emory is a shifter living on the edge. For years he's struggled with his Alpha nature. Then he meets the one woman capable of soothing the savage beast - Mary incites a carnal hunger that leaves him eager and burning. Sweet, kind, and impossibly beautiful, Mary is everything he and his wolven half have been craving. Unfortunately, she's also something else, something dangerous - a Shepherd, bred of the line of hunters determined to destroy his kind.
Soon Emory discovers earning Mary's trust is the least of his concerns. Her relatives want Mary back. If Emory won't hand her over, they'll do everything in their power to take her from the pack. As danger closes in, the passionate connection between them flares into a lascivious bond that refuses to be broken. If Emory wants to keep his mate, he'll have to protect her - at any cost.

Hell hath no fury like a woman interrupted while listening to a really good book!
Wow! I was surprised by how much this series as grown on me! I'm a big fan of PNR and love stories with shifters, vampires and steamy sex scenes, and this series as it all. The world building is great, and there are multiple POV's and subplots, so you really get to know the characters.
Maxine Mitchell narration ROCKS! She does an excellent job bringing the characters and plot to life.
If you are a fan of shifters, steamy sex scenes, action and subplots, then this is a series you will want to add to your collection. I enjoyed the first two books enough to go and check out Aline Hunter's website, and hope she will be releasing new stories in the series soon.
Well worth the time.
I'm a lover of books, both read and audible.
“Enemy Mine” is the story of Emory and Mary. Although not as good as the first book, this book still checked all my PNR goodie boxes. Seriously, what is it with the shifters and leather? Emory is an Alpha wolf shifter. He is fierce, passionate and loyal to his mate and his pack. He stops at nothing and I do mean nothing to find his mate, claim her and keep her safe from her crazy relatives. Mary’s family are Sheppard’s; the crazy religious fanatics out to destroy shifters and vampires alike. But Mary is disgusted by her family and their cruel actions towards the paranormal world and wants nothing to do with them. She is currently running and hiding when Emory and the Sheppard finally catch up with her. Emory saves her and returns to New York with her, to keep her safe and protect her from her family with the help of his pack and Diskant Black.
Their love and passion is intense. Warning, smex scenes are detailed and graphic. They, once again, set my tablet on fire. I fee l like my id should have been checked before purchasing this book. Muy Caliente! Alpha male has a tendency to growl during sex, I love it! You have been warned.
My only issue with this book is there are a lot of side stories. I know the author is setting the scene for the side characters’ own story but at times it’s frustrating to figure out who point of view is the story being told from. I can’t wait to hear about Nathan’s story, though. I think the beta deserves his moment to shine. Maxine does an outstanding job with the book. She keeps me intrigued with her reading of the book and her different portrayals of the characters.
Yes I think you should buy this book. It’s a good read and very interesting story. Plus this book helps build up the events that are likely to take place in the next book “Vampire Mine”. That’s Trey and Sadie story.
Didn't like the 2nd book as well as the first. Like Emory, but Mary came off as whiny. Hers was the only character I didn't like. All the other characters were beginning to develop and I can't wait to hear Trey & Sadie's story.
Already downloaded the third book.
I probably would have liked Mary better if she wasn't read as such a weak & whiny character. Even when she was suppose to be brave she still came through as not totally confident about what she was doing.
I would have liked it more if Emory took charge more like Diskant did with Ava in the first book. I think Mary needed to be guided more because of her innocence.
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
Emory and Mary's story... I will begin by saying even though this is book two in the series, this book can stand alone but I highly recommend reading the first book, Omega Mine, because it is also excellent... I cannot decide if I love book one or two best because they are both MUST READS!
This story is filled with excitement, adventure, amazingly detailed writing, Hot Erotic Sex scenes, and so much more. Aline did it again by keeping me on the edge of my seat I read the whole book within 11 hours because I could not put it down. I found myself relating to and touched by the well developed characters, the thrilling story line and the touching emotions...
By introducing and teasing me with many intriguing characters as possible the story carries you along and doesn't leave any time to wonder of in your mind. I was captured with-in this story and it wasn't going to let me go until the very end... All the characters from book one are included in this story so it was fully rounded and totally Superb.... Once again Maxine Mitchell does an exceptional job narrating and got me totally engrossed in the story with all her fabulous voices. :)
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
I could have taken advantage of having an early night, I could have slept and God knows but I could have hit the stop button at any time during the night.... but NO!! Once I started this enjoyable and captivating listen I mentally went on and on about "just one more chapter" until there was only a few chapters left and then, oh then I started saying mental rubbish like "hey it's not worth stopping now" and "ok 3 hours sleep, no worries, man-up (I'm female!) that's doable".
My only excuse is that, as a PNR lover, this ticked all my boxes - the world-building, the plot, the intense action, the fabulous main and secondary characters, the drama, the romance, the hot sex and the overbearing but gentle giants... the sexy Alpha males. All that, together with an ever evolving storyline about the religious fanatical Shepherds who, it seems, will go to extreme lengths to kill their enemies.... the demon Shifters.
Worth a credit? YES definitely.... and the bags under my bloodshot eyes.
Focusing on Emory and Mary is a great progression. But, for me, the underlying issue that his brother Trey is having with his elusive mate keeps me going!
I started with The Phoenix Pack Series. Once I finished that, I found myself needing more! This is a wonderful series...need more books, Please!!!
She does a great job, I am able to really see the people in my mind. When she speaks, I can see everything very vividly!
YOU MUST SEE THIS WITH SOMEONE YOU LOVE!!!!! BRING THE PASSION INTO YOUR LOVE LIFE!
Say something about yourself!
I almost dread the release of book 2 when I find a series I like. Typically book one was honed and polished and reviewed into a masterpiece and book 2 is just released without fine tuning just because book 1 sold well. Happy to report that book 2 was wonderful too in this case!
We met Emory and Mary in book 1, Omega Mine, and there story was good too. On the run from the Shepard's Mary is trying to live her life under the radar, but Emory will NOT allow his mate to hide from him.
This story had passion, suspense, and I was hooked from chapter one...there was a slight down side to the final battle....I have to say I think the writer could have handled that better. It was one of those all hope seems lost events, and then two seconds later everything was fine...'eh...got on my nerves a bit, but I still downloaded book 3 immediately. Hope there are more coming! And I will have to stalk this narrators work...she is REALLY good!
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
This was a very good story. I liked both Mary and Emory and I thought this was a very good addition to the series. We get to see more of Ava and Diskant and see how things are progressing for them, which I was very happy with.
Mary Shepherd was raised by loving parents. She was happy growing up but did notice that her family moved a lot. When she was still a minor, Mary's parents were killed in a suspicious fire and she's sent to stay with her Uncle and other members of her family. The family was very religious but she was allowed to have a life and even go to college. That's where she meets Emory, the only man she's ever felt an attraction to.
Emory is a wolf shifter. He was having a hard time controlling his beast and left his pack in New York to travel. He ended up meeting Mary at her college and knew right off she was his mate. The problem is that her family, the Shepherds, are religious fanatics that try to kill all shifters. Emory isn't sure if Mary is involved in her family's actions or if she even knows so he doesn't tell her what he is and tries to get to know her and allow her to come to trust him. Unfortunately, before this happens Mary's family finds out about Emory and reveals his shifter nature to Mary before trying to kill him, forcing him to run for his life.
After being almost killed by Mary's family, Emory goes back to New York to regroup. The Shepherds ended up following him and causing much trouble and destruction for the shifters in New York. This ends up sending Emory, Trey (his brother) and some of the other shifters on a mission of revenge. They head to the compound they know Mary's family is at, intending to take out the Shepherds and try to save Mary (although Emory isn't sure if she'd welcome him or not as she was rather freaked when she saw him change). In the mean time, Mary's "family" has kept her captive and tried to brainwash her in to being sadistic killer like them (and beat her when it doesn't appear to be working). Mary ends up escaping (saving a captive shifter as she's leaving) and drives down to Florida. She discovers that her father had been part of the Shepherds but didn't want to be and when he met Mary's mother, they left and hid from the Shepherds. Mary soon realizes that her family probably killed her parents in the fire because of their "betrayal". Mary's parents left Mary a map and some money to help her stay away from the Shepherds and since the map outlines the locations of the other Shepherd's compounds it makes it easier for Mary to avoid areas inhabited by Shepherds. Mary finds an under-the-table job and a cheap (crappy) apartment and is working nights stocking a grocery store when the Shepherds find her. She tries to run and finds that the shifters are there too. Mary doesn't know who to trust or what to do and tries running from everyone. She's injured (and ends up passing out) just as Emory is able to get to her. Emory gets her to safety and get her injury taken care of.
Mary wakes up in New York and with Emory. She's happy to see Emory but isn't too sure how he'll feel about her since she freaked when she saw him change. She has realized that shifters aren't bad but knows they can be dangerous so she's understandably nervous. Emory soon gets her to realize he is happy to see her and wants her to stay there with him. The attraction that had been between them previously is still there and it soon becomes apparent that they both want to jump each other's bones. Unfortunately, Trey acts like a jerk and freaks Mary out by being threatening and when Diskant bursts in to break up the fight, he just ends up scaring Mary more. Emory is able to get Mary settled down but she's still very nervous about everything. Ava helps out as Mary gets settled in as she's a human that mated a shifter and can help Mary understand what to expect. Also, since Ava is able to read Mary's mind, she is able to put some of her fears to rest and head off trouble before it comes. This comes in helpful when Mary considers trying to leave because she's convinced that her being there will just put the shifters in more danger from her family. Emory is able to convince her that the shifters would be in danger whether she was there or not and if she leaves, he'll just track her down and bring her back so it's best just not to leave. Once Mary decides to stay, things progress pretty quickly between the 2 and they embrace it when they're not dealing with the Shepherds attacks (and also planning out a massive return attack). The drama isn't all because of the Shepherds either as some of the shifters aren't too hot on Mary because of her last name but by the end of the story, Mary has been accepted and the pack is working on being more secure (as there's still a danger from more Shepherds). Mary and Emory (and a new puppy named Rocky) settle in to their new home and plan their HEA.
This was a very good addition to the series. I liked Emory in the previous book and was curious about how things would work out with Mary being a Shepherd and I really liked the way it turned out. Emory was a good alpha male hero and Mary was nice and smart and made a good heroine. This book set up Trey's book with his mate Sadie and I can't wait to see how it turns out so I'm starting that book as soon as I finish this review. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up. :)
I love losing myself in books of any kind
The last story in the series
Narrator is pretty good. She needs a stronger story to read.
Nah too sluttly
This is just too predictable. If things are in danger the thing to do is definately the thing to do is have sex. How stupid can you be, really. If these Alpha males where mine I would have to exchange for a smarter version. I am really hoping the next is a little more action packed.
