Publisher's summary

In this pulse-pounding and thrillingly sensual novel, New York Times best-selling author Lara Adrian returns to the mesmerizing world of the Midnight Breed, following new characters into a dark future where an uneasy peace can unravel into war - and a great betrayal can mask an all-consuming love.

Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn - when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them - the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.

Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift - and even lethal - justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.

Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again - or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides - between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.

Overall very good series....

Would you listen to Edge of Dawn again? Why?

If it has been a few years have forgotten the ending. Usually when watch, read, or listen to any entertainment no matter how great, its only once.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Edge of Dawn?

Perhaps surprising was when the old fellow could take a blow like eating pancakes in the morning.

Which character – as performed by Hillary Huber – was your favorite?

When there is a good reader and a good story well its hard to separate the two. Understanding this my favorite are the special talents of the character like Mira's foretelling eyes and the boys ultrasonic voice. Also when there's a hint of a future book based on a spark with certain characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Could see it coming but still moving when he lived.

Any additional comments?

Every book in this series is 5 stars. I do wish Lara A could put out two books a year...wouldnt it be nice....

Disappointing

I thought this book would be an interesting glance at the “future” of the previous books. While it did open up some new storylines, it fell very short on actual character development. The dialogue was contrite and repetitive, the main characters childish, especially considering they supposedly grew up in a worn torn world. And like some of the previous books...the characters act so stupidly, make stupid decisions, etc making it impossible to believe they’ve survived as long as they have.

Pro: the sex scenes are still great.
The voices the narrator gave the two main characters were irritating, making them seem even more childish and stupid, especially the heroine.
I like the world the author has built but don’t think I can stomach anymore of these books.

AWFUL BOOK unless you are into porn

Needed more storyline and less sexual content. Almost every chapter, most of it was an elaborate sex scene. Enough already. was real excited to read because it developed the younger characters who were babies in Book 10..Ugg..almost couldn't finish the book and stopped the series.. Reading it was like going to the OB/GYN for a yearly exam. very disappointing

Not a favorite.

I love the original Midnight Breed series but not all fired up about the kids. That's just my personal taste. But for this one, Kellen is some kind of stupid. His vision would never had come true if he had NEVER left! It only came true BECAUSE he left. And Mira just gave in to that BS immediately after she heard it. I'd have been making him work a lot harder to prove himself after that stupid behavior.

Little disappointed in female character/narrarator

What did you like best about Edge of Dawn? What did you like least?

Hillary Huber does a good job on the male voices but her female voices come off as whiney to me. Mira's voice was grating on my nerves when she was a child in previous audio books and her voice as an adult doesn't differ from a child. She's suppose to be a bad*** warrior - but she whines. I felt like some of the narraration was sing-songy and it seemed kind of patterned. Hard to explain but I love this series and I had to push myself through some parts of this one.

I like the introduction of the new warriors and the direction the new series is going in. I was just disappointed in Kellan and Mira's story - I'd been looking forward to it. I also felt that
Kellan's story line of becoming a rebel leader and the reasons behind it to be weak and could've used more umph. Something was just lacking to me. There needs to be more meat behind Kellan's story. What the heck was he doing for the past 8 years and why didn't he just go to Lucan to begin with?! Doesn't make sense and I had trouble letting go of that question throughout the entire book. I would've like to have seen Mira be more of a warrior and Kellan to use better sense.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I'm interested enough in the series to check out the next one because I still have hopes that it will get better. I will probably read the book though instead of the audio because my issues with the audio kind of ruin it for me.

Would you be willing to try another one of Hillary Huber’s performances?

not sure. I think I'm tapped out. The cadance of her narraration seems to be predictable. She does a decent job expressing the male voices but the women really come off as weak.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

doubt it.

Better to read on your own

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

My time reading the book on my own would have been much more enjoyable.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The main characters were both warriors according to Lara Adrian's view but the narrator made them both sound like teenage twits! I have all of the other books in this series and decided to try audible for the latest installation and that was the worst decision. If you enjoy this series, either purchase as an ebook or prepare for an annoying audible version. I will never purchase an audible book narrated by Hillary Huber again.
