Publisher's summary

In this pulse-pounding and thrillingly sensual novel, New York Times best-selling author Lara Adrian returns to the mesmerizing world of the Midnight Breed, following new characters into a dark future where an uneasy peace can unravel into war - and a great betrayal can mask an all-consuming love.

Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn - when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them - the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.

Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift - and even lethal - justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.

Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again - or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides - between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.

A new dawn...

I really love Adrian, but this wasn't one of my favorites. The series is basically starting anew and I understand that a lot of ground work needed to set; however, I had such high hopes for these two characters. Perhaps that is the true problem, my hopes were too high. Mira grew up to be really irritating and K isn't much better. I spent most of the book wanting to smack 'em. That being said the last hour was worth the 8 long hours leading up to it. I cannot wait for the next one.

Over It!

I can honestly say I am done with this series, the build up is slow, learning about Mira's ineffectually ways of dealing with the death of Kellan. The little spit fire Mira has turned into a brooding, whining annoying young lady,

The story takes place twenty years after the world came to know vampires existed and what happen after first dawn when they were exposed. Plus the events leading up to the peace summit.

We are introduce to Lucan's son Darren and how him and his father are at odds with each other. He is like his father, a born leader and Lucan recognizes it and tries to keep him out of the field fear for his safety. Meanwhile, all Darren wants is a chance to prove himself as a man.

There is a new enemy, not going to spoil it for anyone, since the mystery is part of the appeal, but I will give you a clue, in earlier stories they talked about where the tear drop over a crested moon came from.

The warrior's children are all in their late teens and early twenties, so each one will find his or her mate in this new series, while fighting not only the humans but their new enemy as well.

If you are not ready to let go of the series than continue on, all the original warriors and mates are re- introduced and their political position they hold in world.

If the last book was a struggle for you, this one will make you want to scream in frustration.

3.5 Stars

Hillary Huber gave a good performance. This book was a bit difficult to get into but by the last third it got really good. Interesting start to the next generation Breed warriors and the series.

One Of The Top Vampire Series!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, The writing is very good. Great characters, hot love scenes, lots of action.

What other book might you compare Edge of Dawn to and why?

J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood

What about Hillary Huber’s performance did you like?

I enjoy her reading. Would like less "valley girl" in female characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laughter, no crying, thank goodness. I don't do "cry" books!

Any additional comments?

Would highly recommend this series. Must start with book one and work your way thru.

Terrific New Direction

Love the new direction the MB is heading. I cannot wait for book 12! This is insane because usually by book 10 a series tends to go stale but Edge of Dawn has the maturity of a book 3 when a series really hits it stride but with the freshness of cracking open Book 1. Thank you Laura Adrian for finding the sweet-spot!

To civilized

I liked it much better when humans didn't know vampires existed . When no one told the breed warriors what to do and they governed their own.

Nail biting!

Of all the books in this series, thus far, this was the most devastating. I didn't realize how much I've grown to love Mira. She's feisty, passionate, caring, fun, and very loving of everyone. Kellan, was the one Breed male I just new she would choose as her mate. I never expected what actually happens in this book to take place. Now I look forward to Nathan's story.
